    Very helpful! Whenever I am sketching like this, I have to keep saying to myself, "I am not a camera...I am not a camera..." This really puts me at ease. Thank you!

    Excellent. Can't tell you how helpful this is. Looking forward to part 2.(Btw, love that you keep your videos short. So many RUclips drawing videos go on and on and on and on... And say far less than you do in one short one.)

      Glad it was helpful! And I appreciate you saying that about the lenght of my videos. I hate it when it just goes on and on, and eats up the time you should be spending drawing, right?

    Thank you very much. Bigger scenes are sometimes so overwhelming.

    I love this kind of free expressive style of sketching. Just a respectful tip on the camera though. I often see footage like this where the camera is set to auto focus and it makes the camera shift its focus when a hand comes into the shot. An easy solution is to put the camera on manual focus and fix the focus on the paper, other than that a great piece of work.

    I would have loved to had captured last night's romantic dinner on the harbor, but I kept getting caught up in details & of course it ended up not fitting on the page. Love ur style (so free)

      Oh well... I often run out of page too - it happens; and it's all part of the learning curve. I first and foremost hope you enjoyed your romantic dinner

    This is soo helpful thank you. So far I tended to avoid such big scenes because I felt overwhelmed and could not imagine me sitting there for as long as it would take me to draw a big scene like this. I instead tried to capture the scene by filling a douple page with several small sketches, details that caught my eye at the place I was. You show me a doable way to capture the whole scene in one big sketch that does not take too long to make, thank you :-) I'm going to try this 😉

    Your explanations are always so thorough and yet so simple. I need to try drawing with you, maybe that will give me the courage to draw ink and be ok without all the details I see.

    I've passed on a few potentially great scenes to sketch lately, just because I felt utterly daunted by them and didn't know where to even begin. But now I do!

    I've passed on a few tempting scenes while out and about lately bc they were daunting and I didn't know quite where to begin and felt bad about it 😵
    But now I know! 😄

    This has given me the great idea to include something quite big in the foreground first so I have something to measure from. I get mixed up with the perspective and multiple details of a larger scene but working from a foreground anchor point, like your bike, could really help getting the size of things right. Also just painting the focal point works so well. Thank you Koosje.

    Just a beginner, love your work, but I make too many mistakes to start with ink! And my shapes are way more "wonky" than yours, ha.

    • @JF-kv1gm
      @JF-kv1gm 2 года назад

      Wonky is fine. Just get marks down without thinking too much! I'm a beginner too and just love the buzz of "jumping in"!

    • @KoosjeKoene
      @KoosjeKoene  2 года назад +1

      It's fine to use a pencil if that feels safer. Just don't need an eraser - because then you'll be focusing on (fixing) mistakes, instead of enjoying the act of drawing.

  • @katiemanges8566
    @katiemanges8566 2 года назад

    What ink are you using? I have such a hard time finding an ink that dries quickly that I can watercolor over and have it not bleed!

    • @KoosjeKoene
      @KoosjeKoene  2 года назад

      I use Platinum Carbon Black ink.
      It could be that the paper you're using causes the ink to dry slow.
