I read this back in 2018, then I checked out The Shuddering and Within These Walls. All of them were finished in about two or three days because of how they captivated me. Ania Ahlborn is another of my most favorite writers. 🖤

In general I do not like horror and I probably will not read this but I so enjoy how you talk about books and analyze them. It has helped me become a better reader and to know which horror books I would enjoy reading (much to my surprise).

    after trying unsuccessfully to
    finish that terrifying first scene
three times already, I have been
just waiting for your review before
giving it one more try - and once
    again your warning makes me
    shiver AND crazily curious:
    you are awesome! 👀

That opening chapter is brutal, but if you can get through it (no shame if you can’t) you’ll have an amazing time :)

I have had this in eBook format on my Kindle for years now. I don't know why I haven't gotten around to watching it before now. Probably something to do with the ever-increasing, never completed TBR. Might have to bump this one closer to the top after listening to this review. Thanks for the heads up! 👍

You are absolutely right about this being one of the most popular horror books of late. I read it last year, and I thought it was pretty boring with an overly simplistic writing style until the third act, which was genuinely fantastic and surprising. The final couple of pages are terrific in particular. I get why the book is beloved, and I'm happy to keep it in my library, but not sure Ahlborn is an author for me in general. Thanks for another horror video Willow!

I read Brother back in 2018 and loved it! It was so disturbing and felt like a character study to me. Great review

Brother is one of my favorite books I read last year...I don't know how I feel by the end of the book. I keep flip flopping on weather or not it was a good ending that fits it's tone, especially around it's construct around it's themes around hope, revenge, and envy. I love it so much.

As a hillbilly trans woman from the Wisconsin backwoods I've had people make Ed gein n silence of the lambs jokes about me . I've always been treated different for being who I am n this brand of horror really helps me cope . Also my name is misty nowadays so I'm really excited to read this book n get to know that person

Thanks. It’s never, ever my intention to spoil anything (I’m not a knob) and I’m always aware of spoilers. But I can’t anticipate how everyone will react. I have to get to a point where I say to myself, “If they’re annoyed, that’s their deal.”
