I got Horror Movie yesterday and devoured it in one sitting, pausing only for a meal, medications, and such. You weren’t kidding about the dread. Loved it.

Love Paul Tremblay since I read Head Full of Ghosts. He seems to look at horror as a real life trauma. Few things are as scary as peer bullies. It's so difficult to avoid them, if they are your classmates or in your office. Bullying is so traumatizing and I still remember the way I was bullied as a kid. I'll have to pick this one up.
I've loved everything I've read by Paul Tremblay - except for The Pallbearers Club. I am so excited about Horror Movie. I'm all in for psychological terror and building dread. Also, you look absolutely stunning in that jumpsuit!
Paul Tremblay is my favorite modern horror writer. Everything he writes is so meticulously crafted. You can see his science background shine through. He always impresses me - even The Pallbearers Club - lol! I can't wait to read this. Thanks for sharing!

@@WillowTalksBooks People generally didn't like that one - it wasn't my favorite of his, but maybe my adoration of the author clouded my judgement? It's a very slow burn, and I mean VERY. Let me know what you think.
3:16 I don't think they actually locked him in. The Thin Kid was free to go, they even wondered if he would be there when they got back. He just chose to go along with it.

Just finished the book and just wanted to drop by and say how much I agree with this review - the horror/terror distinction sums how completely this book messed with me!!
It sounds intriguing! I got burned badly by Siilver Nitrate by Moreno Garcia last year, very poorly marketed as a cursed film horror novel when it was a (slightly) paranormal mystery book. The cursed film aspect was such a minor and under-developed part I thought. The idea of half the book being a screenplay is interesting, I quite enjoyed what Stephen Graham Jones did with that format for The Last Final Girl, and it seems this would actually be a horror book. I'll give it a go. By the way Willow, currently reading Ghost Town by Kevin Chen as per one of your top ten lists a few years back - really enjoying it so far!

@@Silverraine1 I thought it was pretty boring. There are 5 or 6 very long scenes of 3 people sitting in any given room where exposition is dumped to the characters who need it as do we to understand the story. If you like that, I say go for it

This book kept taking me away from reality. I'd think about it even shortly after encountering the intense script bits (which ended in mini pauses). After finishing Horror Movie, I felt tempted to dive back in. I feel a lingering from the story that not a lot of books accomplish. A hunger was awoken. I need more books like this one.

The feelings you describe and the effects this book had on you sum up my experience reading a novel by Samantha Scgweblin called Little Eyes. Not horror exactly, but it stayed with me for weeks.

I am listening to the audiobook of this: the actors are wonderful! I have 3 hours left, it is so intriguing! I am not an english native speaker, but (another plus for actors) it is read very well, I can easily understand what is happening :)
You talked about this one a couple weeks ago, and got me intrigued. Actually had me looking forward to it. I bought it digitally soon as it came out. I'm about on the last fifth of the novel right now.
Edit: I've finished it. Could've been trimmed by about twenty pages worth, but that's about it.
