Hi Holly! Absolutely love watching your videos, always such great energy coming from you! I just wanted to maybe give some more information on how "ethical" elephant sanctuaries aren't always that ethical sadly. First of all, THANK YOU for choosing a non-riding company! It's so important to share this kind of information! I know that bathing with the animals is a lot of fun and the animals seem to enjoy it, but it's honestly really unnatural for elephants to bathe with humans... Same with touching or feeding them, it's just not really the best thing still. The best option is a company that allows no touching, feeding or bathing! But I understand it can be very hard to find, as these activities are so popular and companies need money to take care of the animals. But still thank you so much for doing research and giving the animals love! I know you mean no harm! Animal tourist interactions are just a very tricky, difficult topic for everyone

Yea, it's not good for animals to be in such contact with humans :c
I didnt find the link for the sanctuary in the description but idk where do they get these elephants, do they plan on releasing (probably not since they are training them for human contact), etc.
There was no mention of their mission other than touristy stuff in the video.
The older I get, the more I start to hate tourism. Cheap prices for foreigners, expensive for locals. Not to mention insane waste of resources and energy for travelling. Destruction of life of people who live in locations that are changing from places where locals live to places thay cater to tourists. Not to mention the insane prices of rent/buying a place to live which rises because of tourism+ limited options since many places are used as airbnb or to be rented for foreigners.

Thank you, this is so important!
Holly, I don't remember your itinerary, but I'd like to suggest two ethical sanctuaries, since I know you really care about the animals!!
      - Elephant Valley Project, Sen Monorom (Cambodia)
      - Elephant Conservation Center, Xaignabouli (Lao)

I don't really see the issue. It is okay for animals and humans to interact and build relationships like this as long as it's not exploitative. This place clearly takes good care of them. I find it a bit weird to be against human and animal contact across the board, we can have relations with them that aren't built on negativity

    • @caiag

@@sola_a Elephants are wild animals, not pets. In a perfect world they wouldn't be held in captivity, but unfortunately this is not always possible, especially in South East Asia. But still, they are not meant to be domesticated. In actual ethical sanctuaries there is almost no interaction. The fact that they do interact/work/play with us is just because they are highly intelligent beings. Plus, this *is* a form of exploitation, since this place rely on the elephants to attract visitors, forcing them to engage with humans while they should just be healing and living their life as a herd. The baby is very cute, but it is not normal that his mother let human beings get that close to him.
I know Holly meant no harm, this is such a complex topic

@gaiacucco4298 I guess I find issue in holding on to much on what is "natural". I don't think change has to be a bad thing but we can agree to disagree, it is a very complex topic after all

I didn’t go to an elephant Sanctuary when I was in Phuket cause I didn’t see how any could be ethical tbh

Some are better than others - some won't let you bathe with them, for example.

Ethical sanctuaries don’t allow you to bathe with them such as Elephant Nature Park.

Sorry, but you seem to be a bit naive, probably first time here. No worries.
Note: Please do NOT support elephant tourism in Thailand or else in SE Asia!!!

It’s not the best sanctuary if humans are swimming with them. It’s not natural. (At Elephant Nature Park you can’t touch them because they’re allowed to live a natural life.) Curious: Were they chained up at night?

Those elephants are TAME! Not all elephants are like that. Went on safari in Tanzania and our car was chased by an elephant running 35mph. Even the driver was scared
The park was Tsavo East or West. Whichever is more remote
Someone else I know was also chased by an elephant in Africa

Omg Holly, just yesterday I did the same half day experience with the elephants in Phuket at another ethical elephant sanctuary. It was the best experience ever. ❤
I’ve been talking my family’s ears off about you and your experience in Thailand! Really hoped to magically bump into you in Phuket but you had left just a few days ago.

The elephant medicine making reminded me from a scene of Charlie and the chocolate factory where willy Wonka goes to the jungle to get the coco beans and the oompa lumpa squashes a caterpillar and makes him eat it !! 😂😂

@@Avinathi lots of comments calling out her behaviour, she came across massively ignorant, disrespectful and full of white privilege, blamed everything on the island about not been able to run as much, very rude about island, no effort to pronounce or respect culture/locals. Now it appears on insta she 'liked' the island, probably some brand deal or aff links who arent impressed with her poor content.

Sadly bathing and feeding wild animals isn’t ethical either… but I’m really disappointed that Holly completely ignores this issue that people have been making her aware of. I really love her videos and point of view on the world, but this is a huge disappointment honestly.
