This is the only performance on latin night that is listenable. If you close your eyes and listen to all the performances of the night, Melinda's is the only one that sounds like a real record. So smooth and wonderful. This is the only one you'd listen to on the radio of all of them that night.

Actually, after American Idol ended, Simon told interviewers that he thought Melinda should have won the season. Just because he gave her a critique doesn't mean he "sucks." Being a judge isn't being a fan unconditionally. He certainly didn't "kill her shot at victory," and even if he did, it's because he gave an honest critique.
In today's market, you see so many singers over singing (ala Christina and Beyonce), such a subtle, succelent performance is a rarity. I understand what Simon is saying. This is a competition that relies on a WOW everyweek. Subtle isnt always appreciated. I loved the performance though.
Actually, it's possible that he was trying to do exactly the opposite. In the past, there's been some sense that the most talented singers ended up getting voted out because their fanbase got complacent. Could it be that Simon is actually using a little "reverse psychology" to spur on Melinda's voters so that doesn't happen?
I think the negative comments made by Simon were more geared toward her look that night. Had she looked more modern I don't think any negative comments would've been made.
She was great, but i understand where Simon is coming from, she wants her to step up her level not only Voice but Performance, but as we no Simon does things the Wrong/Bad/Hard way.
Him and Paula are both 100% fake. Say what you want about Simon and his attitude but at least he is just being himself and is real, the only one up there.

Love this melody but I think she would have done a great job as well singing this song in Spanish, hey lets be real she's got the VOICE!!!
About the dress, she went for a classic, kind of 40's look that I really dug. Sure she's no hottie, but she has that kind of Fitzgerald charm.
