I really enjoy this video with the gorgeous eerie music. This was one of my favorite mall and I had a lot of memories with my Dad and my older Brother. We would eat first and then walk around the mall to burn off some calories as we go window shopping.
I left Cincinnati and I came back after about 10 years to find this Mall as a Ghost Mall. Whoa, it was weird to walk around when most shops were closed. I counted 7 stores still open not including the food court. Outdoor World, Burlington Coat Factory and KOHL'S were still open.
It really saddens me as I was walking around the Ghost Mall. You did a wonderful job with this video with no commentary and I love the music. Thank you for sharing this.

This music adds to the creepiness factor, I love it! Abandonded with nothing but old memories from the 90's and maybe early 2000's. All the teens who used to hang out here after school, all the little kids who used to go to the attractions... they're all grown now and no one to take the place of that energy they left - lonely and abondoned place. This was 8 years ago too, now it's just worse.

This mall was the shit when I was growing up in the 90's, BIGS, a ferris wheel, merry-go-round, sand pit/ice rink, mini golf, lazer tag, movie theater, oh god the nostalgia, then I moved to nj in 99' and went back to visit about 5 years ago, it completely changed, heard it was under a new owner to try to keep in afloat, a little part of me died when I saw how it currently looked, what happened :(

I remember, as a kid in the early to mid 90s, shopping here with my parents a LOT. Time Out on the court, the arcade, the ferris wheel, the brightly lit neons behind the block glass at the Super Saver Cinema, etc... They've tried so many times to breathe new life into this place, and time after time it just fails. Just makes me sad.

Had no idea you were from around here, John. Or at least spent time here. My family (from Middletown, of all places) would visit here often, many similar memories. I did work briefly with the owner of Arcade Legacy there around the time of Rock Band 4's launch, and that's still a fantastic business, but that walk through the rest of the totally empty mall always made it a surreal experience.

I remember going to Forest Fair in the mid 90's as a kid, it was a dead mall back then... It only hosted Bigg's, Media Play, Tyme Out, Kohl's, Burbank's BBQ, and Ruby Tuesday's and Bass Pro for a long time... The two other things I miss about old Forest Fair was the giant ball machine scpulture (Where did that go?!) that was fun to watch and the creepy giant old security camera that stared you in the face by Metropolis (It stuck out like a sore thumb).

There was a mall like this not far from where I grew up in Illinois. In the 90's, there were major department stores in the mall, and it was thriving. JC Penney's closed just around the turn of the millenium, and after that, nothing has really stayed for long inside the mall, and the decoration is very kitschy looking now. Much of the mall is empty, but it's not as bad as this one. Just goes to show you that malls are artificial places that people are only drawn to conditionally.

Indeed, I'm fascinated too (hence the video). The mall is definitely still standing. In fact, a fantastic retro arcade has opened up inside. Outside of that, it's just as abandoned as you see here.

I found an article from March of 12, saying that they were taking back their old name and adding village to it. It won't be a mall, it will have a sports complex with three ice rinks and volleyball courts, a new fitness complex and many other fun places for the whole family. So guess they aren't working too quickly.

Wow, interesting to see what happened to this wacky "Forest Fair" mall. It seems like lifetimes ago I was a little girl eating Pizza Hut there and riding the carousel. The mall had all these fun rides so of course me and my sister loved it. The mall was busy in those days. I think my mom got me a cute little stuffed seal from one of the shops there! We have a dead mall here in Omaha too, the "Crossroads" mall.

Super video. I knew some JackBalls who worked at the Biggs store at Forest Fair around 2000-01. I can't speak for the other stores but Absolutely Horrible Management closed Biggs and doomed its workers. When jackball#1 came on the scene by the name of Steve Dickens (appropriate last name BTW) he was the new store manager. He was the definition of 'mid-life crisis' if I ever saw one. He thought he struck fear into everyone. What an absolute Loser with a capital L. He had his jackball#2 reach-around assist. manager by the name of Phil Parsons. This guy just fricking oozed scuzzball. Had this permanemt glued on smirk to his face. Your typical azsistant store manager who kisses his bosses butt to the point that you feel embarrazed 'for him' when you saw him. They had jackball#3 grocery manager named Eddie Robinette- called himself "The Grocery God". Ha! This guy was incahoots with the head of Loss Prevention and placed a monetary bounty on the head of the cleaning crew at night to set that cat up to make it look like he was stealing but he was too smart for that.
Just because that guy " had the drop on him" and he knew it. When Tools like this are in place, a store is doomed to failure. The head of Loss Prevention was some Goon that went by the first name of Clay. This guy had the brains of a salad bar....lol. He was thieving and rippin' from Biggs right under their nose. I'm talking " mega ". I always knew he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. After a 'friendly tip' his ass was caught in the act and charged. Oh those memories, how they linger. RIP Forest Fair. Thanks for video and great times.

The area has a few other malls. This one is the biggest and in the 90s it was the place to be. But due to ecconic hard times it fell while the other malls grew because of the location. It's in the center of all the other malls. Northgate Mall, Florence Mall, Tri County, and a few others. Due to driving Distance shoppers went to the smaller malls. Due to the this they tried reviving it. But only had clothing chains inside so it died again from lack of divercity.

I applaud you. I had been thinking for the past year of sneaking a camera in since the interior is heartbreaking. This is as you may know not an easy task. It is the main job of security to make sure no one films inside EVER. Even in an 'abandoned' mall you will get 20 rent-a-cops on you in seconds if you are careless I hear. The current owner doesn't want this getting out.

Sad, but this is just the way things are - I remember people lamenting the fact that businesses on main street were being abandoned with the advent of shopping malls - and now the malls are experiencing the same customer flight. With the internet, there simply isn't a need to go through the hassle of wading through the crowds at a mall. Unfortunate, but malls will soon become a distant memory.

This mall is so creepy. A person could get lost or worse in there and nobody would ever hear them scream. It has a Kohl's, Bass Pro Shops, Danberry Cinemas, Foot Locker and an arcade called Arcade Legacy that's open. The other 95% of the mall is completely closed including what used to be a Showcase Cinemas which is still lit up for some weird reason.

Any number of things kill malls. Changing demographics in the area around them (what used to be a nice area isn't anymore), economic problems in the area, competition from other malls, increasing tax burdens, changing shopping habits of what had been their core customer base, etc.

They never should have built the bloody thing in the first place. Both Northgate Mall and Tri-County Mall are only a few miles away (one east, one west) and there weren't enough shoppers for all three. Once Biggs left the writing was on the wall.
About the only reasons I went there was Biggs, Little Professor, and Lenscrafters. Biggs shut down as did Little Professor, and Lenscrafters moved to Tri-County. Apparently the Liberty complex in Liberty Township is the place to go these days.

Oh, and I have a true story about the mall. Something 'else' the owner might not like getting out.
I went to that Biggs store the day before they sealed it off. In the back I saw a wire strung up. I had no idea what this was until I saw a Mexican lady come out of the stock room and start hanging up clothes. A bunch of other Mexicans came out and started helping.
Yup, just like Oompa Loompas the owner has 'little helpers' he keeps out of sight and out of mind in the sealed up parts.

Good malls, like Forest Fair, seem to go away too soon and then we end up with shitty ass malls like Eastgate Mall, which is utterly dull. Now the mall of which the video is explaing has recently been renamed Forest Fair Village and they plan to redevelop the mall again. Hopefully FFV will turn out better and the mall seemed neat when it was Cincinnati Mills.
