they should turn these things into tourist attractions - like caves, with tours and tour guides. "This store was once a Hot Topic - Hot Topic used to sell clothes and accessories to goths and emos. You can still see some plaid shirts in a puddle by the entrance. And right this way..."
Rip 1975 - 2008 You Will Be Missed. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 At least Fox valley mall in Aurora Illinois still has the same number of stores sense 1971
That's like the shopping centre in The Day After Tomorrow. I don't understand how places like that are left vacant and dilapidated for so long. Surely the owners are still paying council rates for the land. They'd be better off selling it all. I don't recall anywhere like that in Australia. Buildings are either sold or torn down, so something else can be built there, in a relatively short space of time (except for some smaller buildings, but large buildings never stay vacant for very long.) Councils and cities don't want big empty buildings. It doesn't look good for them.
From what Information I’ve gathered, the roof started leaking in 05 or 06.. now in 08 it closed, the interior looked fairly decent 2008-2012 then somewhere along the 2012 to 2016 it went to a state of beyond repair.
je comprends pas pourquoi il y a autant de centre commerciaux qui soit fermer , mais je pense qu il manque une locomotive style grande surface , comme en France
The mall opened in 1975 and closed in 2008 Halloween Day October 31 and has been rotting away ever since. Both the Sears and JC Penny stayed open for awhile but the Sears closed in 2010 (I think) and the JC Penny closed in 2013 (I know). There are two businesses still operating out of the place. The old Target attached to the building is now a Storage Facility "Storage of America" and the old Sears is now a recycling center "Pinnacle Recycling" Back in July 2016 the city was finally able to get ownership of the mall. They will be bringing it down this coming summer of 2017 (a rumor I heard) They can only bring down the actual mall though because all the old former big box department stores are privately owned. I already told you about the Sears and Target but the Macy's and Dillard's are used for storage by the owners and JC Penny still owns its old store at the mall. The reason the mall closed is a variety of reasons. The area became very low income and rundown. Which led to most of the stores leaving and they finally shut down and declared bankruptcy when they could no longer pay the utility bill. The tenants they still had was a dollar store, few church's, and a couple organizations.
Wow sad what happened to this mall but i also think it closed also due to the fact I don't think people go to malls anymore i don't remember the last time I went to a mall i work at Burlington coat factory which is a.shopping center that's what they are turning walk through malls into here shopping centers i shop there or online cause it's more convenient we only have 1 walkthrough mall here and it's doing ok as far as I know but i am glad the city of Akron gained control and will do something with it
Well there are several malls dying from people shopping online instead like you say. Plus the big anchor department stores leave, or if the location is bad, just stuff like that. Rolling Acres was a victim of all of those things
Irigisu I agree it's mainly because the internet online shopping competitive pricing a lot of stores these days just don't have the the ability to compete with the lower prices that online retailers can offer.
Thanks to computers and online shopping, I don't have to waste my time going to germ-infested malls. I click a button and tomorrow, exactly what I need has arrived, usually at a cheaper price.
Are you going to keep saddle-makers employed by riding your horse instead of driving? Come on, no need to restrict technological advances in favor of outdated lifestyles.
West McAllister Well, with how the economy is and how much cheaper it is to order online DIRECTLY from the companies who make the items than get it from retail where it is expensive for low quality just so the middle man gets the most of the cash in the end, can you blame most of us?
I'm going to whatever I can get my shit the cheapest. I don't want to deal with the traffic and people at the mall. It's overrated. With online, they ship it to me and I never have to leave my house. And it also stops me from impulsively spending on stupid shit I don't need like coffee, another pair of jeans, extra socks, dog treats, etc. Because everytime I go out with something in mind, I end up buying more than what I wanted. Online I just click buy and no looking at other bullshit deals to sucker me in. (And this happens to everyone so don't bullshit it. Marketing wants you to spend more than what you came to a brick and mortar store so they provide an environment, signs, music, visual, to almost everything to get you to stay in their store longer and make you buy more shit. Online there's none of that shit.) ALSO you could literally spend hours from traffic to shopping at the mall to get what you need. I don't have that kind of time to just buy a simple jacket...
Some fan once posted on LeBron James's FB page suggesting that he buy Rolling Acres and make it into a casino... but by that time the mall was in such bad shape even LeBron wouldn't be able to save it :(
+Foxpowers That was someone raising a flashlight to look in somewhere dark. I can see how it can be mistaken for one, good eye. I didn't even catch that.
Its so Sad to see beautiful things like this rot away
there is a sad beauty in all the abandon malls i see but this short captures the beauty and sadness perfectly this is Art. keep up the great work !
First thing it reminded me of was that wintery mall scene in the DLC of The Last Of Us
I can't believe a place like this is still standing and not being used for something else it's beautiful though.
It was actually demolished a few years ago
@@jamesxiaolong2199 Awww

... and we're walking.
Wow! I haven't been in there since the 1988 or 89. Maybe they could turn it into a skating rink
+Barbara Halas It is going to be torn down this summer. I miss this mall.
*****
Hopefully, I'll be hove from work that day. Gotta see that! I missed when they tore down my old school.
If I see the date they are going to do it I will post it for you.
Barbara Halas they’ve tore it down already
That was absolutely beautiful
THE NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEATH 1988 went to that mall with my wife from PA. good memories. know to see this make me cry. is so sad
Amazing. Looks like you had a blast exploring.

+mix0nix The mall in the DLC was modelled from rolling acres
*This is surrealistic...*

It's very sad, remembering walking through this mall when it was at its peak...Who knew,,,
That is sad and very depressing. Im glad its been put out of its misery....

Wow, looks like the scrappers got to this place! Cool Vid!
Scrappers... vandals... a stupid idiot who wound up electrocuting himself trying to steal copper cables... you name it...
reminds me of the last of us, damn good memories 😭
What gets me is when the lights are still on 10 or 15 years after they shut down and are in appalling condition
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Did Naughty Dog visit this mall for their Left Behind portion of The Last of Us?
yeah probably
purplefreak3 also for their upcoming Crash Bandicoot Visits America
Reminds me of the movie, The Day After Tomorrow. Quite apocalyptic and sad.
Ellie truly was the last of us.
I'm not from US, from UK london and I feel this fir some reason :(

Wow... just wow.
reminds me of The Day After Tomorrow scene
Capri_gurl Malaysia felt like a real life apocalypse with the scenery
How sad, these malls are not taken care or matained as they should be.
That part at 1:21. If any of you had watched The Day After Tomorrow, isn't this the mall where that man committed suicide to save the other two?

+Myferrets18 It is going to be torn down this summer. Saw it on the news (WKYC). Miss this mall.
I have been waiting so long to see snow but

je comprends pas pourquoi il y a autant de centre commerciaux qui soit fermer , mais je pense qu il manque une locomotive style grande surface , comme en France

juliadennehy pinnacle recycling
Bath and body works 🤣
we are lost good all running out a time mall
anyone know whatever came of this mall its a sad shame to just let it sit there and rot away
This is Dan Bell has a video on it. I think the city of Akron owns it now but I may be wrong.

this pool mall :(
like end of world scene wow scrapers guess took all the hand rails to
That mall is in The Last of Us, isn't it?
Malls are all about location location location. Wheres its built and placed. That is all.
Incredibly sad....like a rotting corpse.
SAD! Thanks to computers and on line shopping....
Lol it wasn't even because of technology. It was due to multiple cases of bankruptcy and crime, on top of that bad publicity.
and crime

and the fuckin' THUGS who tore it up :(
COOL Vid miss going there....
Good place for the homeless 👏
This makes me hate how technology is advancing!! Everyone wants to buy online now!! I'm going to stop online shopping and go to the mall. :'(

It is very sad when people never want to leave their house, hooray let's have lockdown forever!
So sad RIP
Someone rich needs to come rebuild/renovate mall be something how it looked before and reopen it
Kolbe Emerling it would probably be cheaper to demolish it and build an exact replica on the same location
Some fan once posted on LeBron James's FB page suggesting that he buy Rolling Acres and make it into a casino... but by that time the mall was in such bad shape even LeBron wouldn't be able to save it :(
I live five minutes from there :D I go two the taco bell
In 0:53 I so an orb
+Foxpowers That was someone raising a flashlight to look in somewhere dark. I can see how it can be mistaken for one, good eye. I didn't even catch that.
the country is running out a money this usa
No, we are not. Look at America's GDP over the years, instead of making stupid assumptions.
