Another Cannonball pleasure to listen to. It is inviting to everybody who listens to it because it is all tasty and fun and friendly with that just right spirit.
This is a great band in my imho. Reminds me of the greats of the past that didn’t have to have music sheets when they played. So many I’ve seen on here…they are like high school bands.
Having a chart when you play in many ensembles with large repetoire (sp) is not a sign of weakness or make you a high school band. you apparently have never been in 7 or 8 bands that constantly change material, most of which is original. How you play it is the important factor. Patrick Bartely and Emmet Cohen are exceptional musicians -period I have seen them both use what you call sheet music and I call a chart many times.
@@zangsax thank you. No, I have never been in a band at all but in my younger days I did see many of the greats at Birdland (the original) and other places. Even saw Herbie Mann at the Apollo etc. Anyway perhaps I was too harsh. Thanks for your comment.
I've heard that people back in the day had tons of sheets but that they hid them because white folks thought they were "lesser musicians" if they had them, and would not see them play.
Solo playing in accordance with the rhythm and harmonic structure of this jazz standard song by sax & trumpet was well accompanied by the piano & rhythm players, but once the rhythm players took their solos the ship went adrift !
Emmet Cohen and Patrick Bartley are like the last two infinity stones, when they come together something boutta go down
Jazz is not dead while Emmet and CO are still cookin' this hard
It's so great that young artists are carrying on the great jazz styles and traditions.
Benny was unhinged and it was fantastic
The Alto is just beautiful like a turbo charged Jimmy Dorsey meets Benny Carter.
Jack Dorsey meets Jimmy Carter

Weirdest editing I’ve ever seen. Like slow transitions between security cam footage.
They just have a few cameras that cycle throughout the livestream
That’s literally exactly what it is lol they have security cameras there
