  • Race to the Stones did not disappoint! What an incredible day and race for my first ultramarathon. The months of training had gone well, it was just a case of getting to the start line and putting in my best effort. Absolutely loved meeting people along the course, the aid stations were superb and the heat.... well let's just say I had to double my planned fluid intake and even that wasn't enough at times.
    The legs are just about coming back to life and I'm beginning to think about the next adventure...

      @@TheVeganRunner that is super exciting for you! 100 milers are epic!! I just completed my first Half Marathon in Wimbledon Common, London. It was nothing like I was prepared for: mud bath up to my ankles all throughout the course, huge pools of rain water, slipping and sliding everywhere and half way through torrential downpour! 🙈 I pushed through and completed it in 2.32:59 which was my predicted time for a flat road race!! I was so happy with that! Also half way through my training I broke my arm and severely sprained my foot in 3 places in the freak accident whilst standing believe it or not. I am so happy I was able to run my first Half after all that. Now onto the Marathon. Thanks and look forward to more of your videos! 😁

      @TheVeganRunner  2 года назад

      I really like active root! I’ve never had an issue with gels before, and have taken the high5 ones during marathons before with no issues. I think it was a combo of too much sugar via those gels and having to take on a lot of liquid per hour. I’m thinking of sticking to high quality gels and fruit next time.

      Thanks so much! It's still an insane concept to me, and I frequently thought about that on race day and in training. 89K is practically the same distance - you'll likely pace it the same as a 100K and your nutrition/training plans will be very similar - should be a good experience for when you take on the full beast. The heat was killer - some reporting up to 30C once the sun came out, we're just not used to running in that heat over here!

      Thank you Lin! Sometimes, the camera comes as a helpful distraction from the suffering or monotony of placing one foot in front of the other and I think psychologically, knowing there will be a (small) audience watching, pushes you on when things get tough! I'm really enjoying your channel. Really appreciate the honesty describing your runs, especially the longer ones, such as this, Race to the Stones. Thanks. It has inspired me to prepare and push myself further to attempt a 50k next year. One thing that never seems to be mentioned by yourself (or other runner channels) is toilet breaks. Occasionally it's mentioned at the beginning of long runs. But, what happens mid-runs, as there doesn't seem to be portaloos at the rest stops. Do you find a bush or something? I'm genuinely curious as I can't see myself lasting 6 or more hours without needing to at least pee!! I can manage an HM, but much longer I think would become an issue for me. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks. Or is this really an unmentionable subject?

    • @TheVeganRunner

      That’s fantastic to hear! Keep me posted with how you get on ☺️
      So for RTTS, I went to the loo right before the race as you’d expect, then at aid station one and at then base camp. It was so hot after that, I think I was sweating more than I could take onboard so didn’t need the loo again until after I had finished. RTTS was very well stocked with portsloos at every aid station, but I did see others using a bush just off the path when they needed to. On training runs, I don’t mind ducking into a bush as and when nature calls. ☺️

They have several options to race, 100KM non-stop, Day 1 50KM, Day 2 50K, or you can do the full 100K with 50K on Day 1, then camp overnight, and 50K the next day.
