A long time in upstate New York, ago I saw new NYC Subway cars being part of a freight train heading south. They weren't on flat cars or anything -- they were being pulled as part of the train.
The yard is basically right on the border between the two cities. Technically more of it's in Hayward, but I'd imagine some of the work for this delivery stretched over into the Union City part.

Was surprised to see BART cars being delivered by truck and not by rail
They’re too long and wide to be able to fit the loading gauge needed for transcontinental rail.

That Honda engine that was on the forks what looked like a some sort of pump being loaded up. Those engines are now banned in the state of California.
