Some people get so mad at smash. I’ve just gotten into the mindset of being impressed when my opponent does something awesome.
Now when someone continuously spams the same move, that’s when I start to get tilted.

Positive mentality is key in all aspects of life.
The more you think about something, the more that becomes true. If you constantly think about how much life sucks, your life will start to suck. Try focusing on the positive aspects of life, and those aspects will become accentuated.

Instead, by taking a humble attitude you can avoid the saltiness and even play better because you're paying more attention to your opponent!

As a counseling intern training to finish my master's degree, the part on meditation really is applicable. Meditation is a part of mindfulness, which involves focusing on the present, as he said, and allowing the mind to process what is happening at the moment and filter stress out. It is used in a variety of ways in counseling and is proven to aid in managing stress and anxiety. Sorry, I don't mean to sound pretentious. I just thought it might be helpful to put a kind of professional seal of approval on the tips in the video.

Most Sundays my cousin and aunt will come to my house to have dinner with us. When playing smash against my cousin, I used to win only around 5% of the time, winning almost no games, but now, my chances have been increased to 30-40% (might fluctuate because I just picked up a new main recently) and I think your videos are the cause, they make me more aware of my mistakes and what I could improve on. I went from being a Dair-spamming toon link in Smash 4 to a G&W in Ultimate who can mix it up and is somewhat good at stringing some hits together, predicting moves and playing defensively. I would just like to thank you, as you've had a very positive effect on not just my play, but likely many others' play, even my outlook on loss. I used to get super upset every time I lost and got tilted at everything, but now I can say "good game", shake the winner's hand and move onto the next game, laughing at taunts and keeping a cooler head. Your guides are entertaining and I will usually only click off if I really need to find a certain video etc.. You have no idea how many people you've helped, and you've earned a sub for that.

Everything happens in the Now. Your memories are only recalled in the present. Your thoughts of the future only occur in the present. Anything and everything occur here and now. There is nothing outside you and at the same time there is everything inside you. We are not something here by fluke. We are the primordial force of the universe coming on as we are. We are not something at the end of the process, we are the big bang, we are the energy that constitutes reality and this universe we occupy. Learning how to accept the present and dwell strictly within the present may take some practice or it may happen spontaneously. Either way it will drastically increase your health and overall quality of life. There is so much energy granted to us everyday, all we have to do is reach out our hand and grab it. Thank you for this extremely positive video, and as always keep SMASHING.

I can totally agree. I don't meditate, but as I grew up playing with my brothers and cousins since SB64, I have learned that, for example, after losing 1 stock almost cleanly without being able to fight back, I just stay still while in the invulnerability time, close my eyes and take a deep breath.
It only lasts the few seconds of invulneravility, but doing this empties my mind and relaxes me a bit, and I can notice my play is better. Dozens of times I have won with almost 1 stock (sometimes 2!) of disadvantage with a sharp comeback, only by stopping a few seconds during the match to close my eyes and breathing.

I treat it as a chill time because that’s what it is and when I get in the groove with my Spotify playlist and Smash Bros. I do a lot better than when I try hard to be better than everyone else and more competitive. When I started out in Smash 4 I got so used to losing that I became numb to losing and it couldn’t bother me anymore. Now I feel I’ve finally developed the mindset to remain focused and quick with a calm mind at the same time. I’m a proud Elite Piranha Plant and am currently having a blast just experimenting online.

i know i'm 4 years late but i'd like to make another point on the meditating thing: it really helps to use a "mantra", a phrase or word or even just a sound that you repeat to yourself with each breath. it adds another level to the focus, and really brings you back from distractions very, very well. you don't even have to say it out loud, i usually opt for saying it in my mind.

Always remember there is room to grow, and there is always a way to enjoy the experience, if that experience is loss or victory, just playing a character you like, listening to the stage music or just goofing around with items with friends. You have to learn to enjoy other parts of the game if you're feeling frustrated about one, and that can apply to most anything in life also

I’m pretty interested in the topic of game mentality, but I didn’t pick it up in Smash. In fact, I didn’t even play a fighting game to start thinking about my mentality. During my time playing Dark Souls 3, I truly learned what I needed to mentally in order to succeed, especially because of the PvP in the game. I initially wanted to just do the funny haha stuff that I saw on RUclips, but then I got blended to death by gank squads. So, I looked back at the vids I saw, and the one thing I consistently saw players say once they died is “it’s just a few souls(the in game currency and experience points), I can get them back”. Once I took that mentality to my gameplay, and repeated it over and over, it eventually carried over to other games, and now I enjoy gaming as a whole now.

To add to the discussion on meditation: "10% Happier" by Dan Harris is a terrific place to dip your feet if you're interested but skeptical about the practice and want a solid overview of the subject without all the mystical nonsense.

Well, I definitely need this. I'm given up on playing competitively because of my inability to react fast enough and universal self doubt in both advantage and disadvantage.

Another great thing you can do to help your mentality is to tbag your opponent midmatch. Really makes you feel good

@@allegroemj353 or it can be used before fighting to show that you are friendly and are only playing for fun, if the other player responds with a tbag then they want to have fun. However, if they respond by furiously attacking you... then they simply do not give a single, flying, stinking horse shite about having fun and want to cause pain and suffering. These players most likely main characters such as: Ness, Link, young link, toon link, K rool, richter, simon, pit, and finally... pichu (the ultimate try-hard, overpowered, mess of a character who needs to be either nerfed, or fucking removed.) I would just like to say that i love this game and absolutely despise filthy tbaggers who seem to enjoy provoking others and being completely toxic... but seriously, this game is awesome. NERF PICHU SAKURAI. And one final thing. Cloud. Cloud is cloud. Here is a basic guide to playing cloud and reaching elite smash. ALWAYS begin the match by furiously mashing B. then, when the opposition approaches, reach deep into your mind... traversing time and space, lost in thought. And press side B. Or just side smash. either way, the opposition will be completely and utterly terrified... No, petrified at how clever that combo was, they will surely retreat. After that just approach and finish with a smash attack or something, at this point and at this level of mindless play it doesnt even matter.
