Linocut Prints Quickly using a CNC

- Today I'm making some test prints by cutting linoleum on my OMIO CNC.
The CNC cuts this stuff really well! Just need to get a press and some decent rollers sorted to make some artwork. Stay tuned for more experiments, going to be working on a 2 colour print next.

on point !
Really nice to see cnc linocut
Don't be afraid to work full depth the first time. In my opinion, your plunge into the material is too slow. It's linoleum, not aluminum.
what did you do to get rid of rough edges around cut ? :)
It brushed away easily with my finger
Bravo!

May I ask, what Bit did you find most effective for linoleum, also what spindle speed and feed rate?
In this video I used a single flute 3mm upcut bit. Straight or Upcut bits will work fine. Feeds and speeds were approx 20,000rpm. 1800mm/min
Hi. Nice video. What’s the brand of CNC machine u use?
Hi, OMIO - ruclips.net/video/rFB1VDB97Gg/видео.html
I just tried this and it didn't cut well at all. The rubbery linoleum was just moving away from the cutter then springing back after the cutter passed. Have you had this issue, did you find out what cutter worked best? I tried a tiny 1/32" two flute flat endmill, a tapered 0.2 mm ball endmill, a 60 degree two flute v, a 1/16" single flute flat upcut... nothing worked well.
I found the 1.55mm endmill didnt cut as good as the 3mm endmill. So a 0.2mm probably would be even worse. Biggest tip is to stick your lino in the freezer before cutting. It will make it much easier to cut.
@@ThisDesignedThat I'll try that. Thank you.
Are you cutting into something like Speedycarve, or battleship grey linoleum mounted on wood block? I am guessing the harder stuff will probably cut better on the CNC.
What software do you use
I use fusion 360 for the cad and cam stuff, Mach3 for the CNC
Can you import illustrator files in mach3? Or is anyway to set up the job in ilu?
yes you can export it to SVG in illustrator and then import the SVG file in fusion360
This Designed That thanks for the reply, I’m looking to get a machine that I can use to use these and rubber, any suggestions that are under 600? Thanks
@@DELTAVlOLET A cheap 3018 CNC from ebay / amazon will be more than enough to cut lino and rubber
This Designed That any suggestions which one, so so many different choices.. I’d really like an a3 workspace also.. to do the same kind of thing you’ve done here on a3 then use it with my proofing press. So ideally a really slick edges and nice finish.
@@DELTAVlOLET hmmm, for A3 size you will need something bigger than the 3018. I would suggest a 6040 CNC. These will be around $600-700 for a basic setup. They are bigger and more sturdy which will be beneficial with the finish of your cuts. Where are you based?
Meh. Unmoved. Kinda takes the artistry and skill out of making a beautiful hand cut print. (More pressure better ink roller flat block also needed)
agreed, but i think its interesting to apply cnc with generative art techniques to create lino cuts, this is where I want to take it next
You might as well just print out the artwork. The cnc did a crappy job, and it definitely detracts from the hand made feel. The end result wasn't all that good, either.
Wood is better ..
I might have to try a wood carving and print it
@@ThisDesignedThat is it possible to use the CNC to make a wood block print?
@@JaseyStudios yes that is not a problem
