    Simplest explanation I've seen yet for a bowline yet and ironically, a better knot.
    Brilliant!

    I tie a standard bowline but have a longer working end, the end inside the loop, then tie a half hitch to secure.

    We use synthetic rope a lot at work. I've never trusted the bowline with that stuff. This will do quite nicely... Cheers!

    Double Bowline beats water Bowline hands down. I've been a merchant seaman for past 30 years. With the use of synthetic slippy cordage Double Bowline is best especially when we apply tons of strain to the ropes we use.

      seriously, looks stupid to me, commercial fisherman since 1974, give the bitter end a tuck, learnt that within a week of my first ship, double bowline, never seen or heard of it till now, why, stupid idea.

    Add a Yoimite finish to make it more secure. Just an idea. :)

    Would this be knot be more useful than the water bowline? It seems that the water bowline would bind less than this know, however this is just simpler and quicker to tie.

      This was my thought too. Nearly the same knot as the water bowline.

    What happen if take the standing end to make a bowline again so that I now have two big loops instead of one? Is that to be avoided?

    A bowline is a bowline, doesn't need securing anymore.

      I don't think this will be as easy to loosen/undo as a bowline after being under heavy sustained load, which is a major feature of the standard bowline.

      Bowline standard not safe for climb, dont get killed, BUT bowline with knot stopped > perfect safe and easy remember

    The name - Double Bowline - shouldn't it be reserved for a bowline with two loops?

  • @LaAttiDah

    very, very Similar to a Water Bowline...

    • @WhyKnot
      @WhyKnot  7 лет назад +2

      Yep. Just uses a round turn instead of a clove hitch as the nipping loop. Great to hear from you again.

      My scouts have a Contest to see how many Different ways to Tye a Bowline by starting with other knots .. ie. a slip knot into a Bowline. I have been trying to tie a water Bowline starting from a Fisherman Loop but I think I need a Different version of that knot to start with...
