I have an Alpine Halo 9 in the van and whilst its 10x the cost of that, and it's in place of the vans infotainment system, it has the same Apple Airplay and Android Auto functionality. With regard to the signal issues, it will only be as good as your phone, network, and data plan. I have unlimited data all over Europe and am on the EE network. In the summer we drove right through France and on to Southern Spain. In two weeks of using the head unit and phone for navigation, streaming*, web browsing and socials we only used around 5mb of data more than we normally get through.
We only experienced signal drop out when we were very much in the Spanish "countryside" (desert?) going between Zaragoza and Valencia.
*Our unit has HDMI input which enables us to use a firestick whilst travelling. This allows my Lady to watch her tellybox stuff whilst we're travelling (no, I don't find it distracting!). Watching in 4K is almost impossible, theres just not the bandwidth to accommodate the amount of data needed. However, the unit only has a 9" screen so 4K pictures aren't necessary as the screen doesn't have the resolution to display them.
Wow, thanks so much for such a comprehensive reply, it’s very much appreciated, we have a kenwood head unit and struggle with sat nav so we thought we’d review this unit, it’s very good value, but we do quite a lot off grid and struggled with reception through Europe, we’ve been given a sat nav for motorhomers to review , so hopefully that’ll tick the box as standalone, but your unit really sounds amazing !! ❤️

Love the big screen and that you could use Siri to message your son 😂 loved the timer 🤣 if it was better on signal we would consider buying that but where we are and all over the Island there are bad spots for lack of signal - great review really enjoyed it! Great product , don’t have one, but , need to be careful when plugged into the 12v socket, if your 12v is a constant on, it will drain your battery. The device is a constant draw and believe it doesn’t have a low power mode.
