100% agree with Cohh ... this game was amazing and there is that big "if" when we could had year 2023 where two CRPGs left other games in dust and competed for GOTY ...
yeah but BG3 was a no contest really. That game was not only GOTY but one of the best games ever made ...
@@KaratePath even DOS2 is better written.....
Best Warhammer 40k experience for me, I hope they add more content like fighting Orks, Tau or Thousand sons.
Fighting orks is good.
Recruiting a Bloodaxe mercenary ork companion iZ EVEN BETTA !
for me this is the best 40k game ever. It delves into the world and lore to a degree to no other game has and the writing is really solid. You can tell the devs love the setting.
Owlcat do amazing crpgs, i loved their pathfinder stuff and i really hope that there is at least some crossover between bg3 players because crpgs are such an under appreciated genre.
My problem with owlcat, and I play their games a good amount. I loved wotr. But they reuse so many things throughout their games. They got a big title like Warhammer and STILL reused a lot of things like the character creation options lol. Same hair styles and oh God the faces. They are so terrible LMAO. If they can make an actual working turn based pathfinder game and put more effort into player identity and balance, it would blow up. They are great but need that extra push
Compared to past owlcat games, it isnt as bug riddled which is a huge step up.
Still has bugs and a ton of huge ones but atleast it wasnt like the first pathfinder. Hope they fix this up nice and quick because i love me some warhammer 40k
They also need to stop reusing the same god-awful hair and face options in every game they make LMAO
Ive played through rogue trader twice now. Its so fun and cool to see different events with the different party members
Twice? Did you have to use toy box?
@ArminiusSage Nah man pure vanilla
@@carsongriffin5120 pc then?
How is it now compared to launch?
@ArminiusSage Haven't played it in a while but last I remember it worked fine
@@carsongriffin5120 so you had no issues?
Are you a bot?
The game is awesome, although even the latest patch still has a lot of bugs.
I hope that the release of patches will not stop and they will make the next game of the year
It took awhile to figure this wasn't Mechanicus😅
They use some of the same art and icons.
The Arc Rifle for instance is almost identical.
I forgot this game exists and it's on my list of games i need to buy
Total warhammer 40k geek. Can't wait to play this once I'm done with BG3
As updates are coming along omg on the Emperor this game is like playing tabletop WH40K RT in video game form closest ever too it is amazing
A Pathfinder dev vs a D&D dev competing for GOTY would have been the perfect year.
Owlcat cRPG usually doesn't really have reactivity in my experience
I personally enjoy it more than BG3. Dont get me wrong, BG3 was cool but very hollow. Its presentation was so strong but even with strong voice actors like Astarion, characters and choices felt…empty. Its almost like it was too cinematic. Hard to describe but it felt like despite so many choices, nothing really mattered.
The voice acting could have really brought people to this world! Regardless, this is a great game!
I love this genre and you seem to be going very easy on the devs because there are lots of games that have needed patching and balancing that you’ve been very critical of... I really want to play this game but I’m hung up on the 40k lore as I’ve never developed a personal connection to the universe. I got a solid 100 hours into Realms and it’s probably my favorite title in the uni so far. I’ll keep this one on my list.
I will argue this.
if This game had been "started" like 5-6 months earlier and released the same date? (or delayed) aiming to fix the bugs and maybe expand act 4 and 5...
It would easily have been one of if not the best CRPG.
It is INCREDIBLE...
Honestly it’s a really great game. I’d love it if owlcat could do an only war, Dark Heresy or even Death Watch one. That would be so cool.
I feel like these Owlcat games need their completion time reduced down to half or even one third, while making up for what remains with a massive spike in quality.
They need a bigger team, is what you're saying.
agreed, it's an insanely well executed, deep game
Reminds me of DEMEO on VR and Steam. Love that game. Wish they would expand it more though
I see a lot of people saying "but visuals are the most important thing in games!!!" and I wonder why they even choose rpg's? The roleplaying experience and story are much more important. The story in RT is much more interesting than in BG3. I think Bg3 was planned to be darker, given the old datamines. But something went wrong and half of the third act (upper city and hell) had to be cut out altogether. A lot of characters lost their depth and true nature. They erase them for the sake of "sweet redemption". RT is much deeper than that. The RT writers did a much better job than the writers of BG3. And I say this as someone who has played both games. Don't forget that Larian is still finalizing the story part of the game. Yes, maybe Owlcat has bugs and balance issues, but the story???? to finish the story????? Larian is literally adding a evil ending and epilogue that should have been on release, not 6 months after. Visuals aren't enough for a game to be considered good. Plus, I love all RT characters for their unique and distinct perspectives. And I'm sick of watching every character in bg3 literally abandon their nature. Except perhaps Minthara, who was just broken on release.
The reason its not voice acted or mocapped, is because its HUGE
Its like 2-3x longer than BG3
they can make games do huge because they dont voice act everything
Baldur's Gate 3: masterpiece of voice work.
Rogue Trader: a new window into 40k universe that shows many things not shown before about the setting.
Jagged Alliance 3: whole 4 bloody hours of original soundtrack without copypasted song variations.
I’ll take it, you never actually played BG3 and just watched the YT shorts and memes about it? Considering you put “masterpiece of voice work” when the aspects of the game that won it majorities of Game’s Award was more than just the voice acting, you know like the more obvious SFX, VFX, in-depth stories, and most importantly the very rich attention to detail given to everything which you would have known in the first place had you actually played the game
@@SordidusFellatio are you being insulted that someone on the internet haven't given you a free bj or something? Or that I like JA3 music and you can't change that? Which one would that be?:D
Guess I'll wait till they finish it and it's on sale
They should add a text to speech option so ppl don’t have to read walls of text
I love, love, love this game!
I just finished it and I actually like it better than BG3. This is an AMAZING game.
This reminds me of how Divinity Original Sin 2 was... Amazing game and put Larian Studios on the map. This game seems to be doing the same for Owlcat.
to be honest i don't care about cut scenes, or fully voiced acted if the writing is like BG 3 (very very weak compared to the works of Owlcat or Obsidian)
I bought into the alpha. I spent about 400 hours between alpha and beta. Sent numerous bug reports.
When release happened, and there was still the same bugs. Gamebreakin.
And considering the time and money invested.
That ruined my game experience.
Best 40k game and their best Crpg. I'd tie it for second with POE2 for best cRPG ever
Great game a little unpolished in some areas but mogs BG3 story wise and character wise.
I wish they would bring "Total Warhammer" from PC to PS5 😭
Last patch fixed most of the stuff. Nothing breaks anymore as far as I'm concerned
Owlcat are brilliant, they just need to keep their games in the oven for another six months at least, before release.
And they only get better.
Kingmaker was great, WotR was better, Rogue trader is even better...etc...(I hope ot continues that way.)
4 months down the road it's still buggy, there are too many trash random encounters, and the companions aren't really that memorable. It's good, no doubt about that, but it doesn't come close to Larian's level of fit and finish.
"Larian's level of fit and finish"
Copium is one hell of a drug. Dude forgot the state of Act 3 when it released xD
Ignoring bugs* and taking this vs BG3, this was hands down a better experience for me than BG3.
75 hours for 1 playthrough of BG3 (where i attempted to do everything) and 120 hours on Rogue Trader spoke volumes.
BG3 wins in graphics hands down, but I think that Rogue Trader beats it in all other aspects.
Both are absolutely phenomenal, and i would hate to have not experienced both. But if i had to pick the one that i got the most out of, it is definitely Rogue Trader.
I do need a cross over where Abelard meets Astarion though.
*(because they will get patched, and BG3 had its own) i
If you attempt to do everything in BG3 75hs is barely enough time to get out of Act 1.
If you only spent 75 hours in BG3 then you didn't do everything
Balamce and bugs isn't so bad. My issue was purely act 2 being the only exploration you eill ever do and act 5 is boring.
I atopped in act 2 to give it some time to breathe.
Well , you know what they say ! ( Woulda , shoulda , coulda ) just dont cut it ....Dude.
Why is the theme of warhammer games " they will be great once the'yre done"
Looking forward to playing this game. I have it downloaded it's just a pile of dicks on release. Plus their co op implementation was a fucking piss take. Once they sort that out I'll definitely be sinking some hours in.
the bugs are what made the game not great for me other than that amazing
IF owlcat had a bigger budget they would easily beat larian games
Ya the character creation was so easy and perfectly explained if you are a rocket scientist.
It really is dimples, issue is most talents feel pointless or to situational. Then you have obvious must takes.
no it's not
I just can't play these games without voice acting anymore. I've been spoiled and there isn't any going back.
then you will completely miss out on the best writing, characters and quests in the genre.
Lol it's not common for crpg to be fully voiced, I don't know how you ended up being spoiled
I still think this game is too complicated
That is the first Game by owl cat that i finished. The missing Voice acting Made me Turn away from the pathfinder Games
nah, i liked it, but 6 months in balance is still ASS
Only thing I think drags this game down is the traversal through the warp map. Makes the game take so fucking long and the constant invasions from enemies on your ship just really pulls me away from the fun.
you gotta make a hub planet and chart out warp jumps to it, make it so nowhere is more than 2-4 jumps away
i dont think so, last Chapter is very rush, story is unfinished, balance in this game is suck after chapter 3, when u can lvlup ur archimilitant and fuck everything
before Chapter 3 i might agreee but still some main quests are very rush and dont have deep story in it compare to Bg3, or even compare to PathFinder WOTR, which is much better and deep in terms of story and gameplay
Sounds to me like a biased 40k fan opinion. I played the game, and it looks tired and poorly written. I'm not talking about the bugs or the combat balance. The combat itself is not deep enough. The moment you have games with combat like X com 2, there is no excuse to release game with this kind of combat. Story is also nothing anything to write home about. Lets compare this game to wasteland 3. Both of them have simple combat system(nothing interesting), but at least devs of Wasteland (both 2 and 3) know how to write an immersive story. And don't let me start on companions, a complete sh1t show roller-coster from meeting the physker and the sister until the end. You have lazy character design such as "over self confident teenage brat", "irretional but strong zealot", we had those already so many times in gaming to point that this is lazy. The only thing that I enjoyed was enviorments, they are beatiful.
Some other issue I want to adress because it's somewhat related to warhammer games quality.
There is a problem with warhammer community in general. Community naively support everything that has warhammer slapped on it. And attacking anyone who dare to criticize the product. That's why in my opinion warhammer games are nothing special and are basically a reskin of already existing product.
Not every game has to have XCOM 2 Combat, the Combat in rogue Trader is in No means perfect but it's Not Horrible, and No Not all Warhammer Games get praised Like Shot only once that are mid to good, Like Darktide, space Marine, adeptus mechanicus, battlesector dawn of war etc
So essentially "they focused gameplay over looks" to bad most developers don't seem to think that way
More like, they didn't have the budget like Larian to do gameplay AND looks/VO. I thought previous Owlcat games looked great for what they were though so I look forward to this as well, just gonna wait for a few bugfixes.
@silentverdict so once again, they choose gameplay over looks.
Could have used some budget pointlessly adding voice acting..... didn't though which is literally my point.
Call of duty will be the same game over and over again but will look better every time.
Because call of duty values looks over gameplay development.
@@tylerlawwill1761 and outside of multiplayer who cares about CoD ? they are soulless games now ... this game looks great and even without voice acting has so much depth and charm CoD never had ...
@jaroslavmihok740 the millions of people that buy it. And "outside of multiplayer"
You mean the entire game.
You seem to be so dumb you think multiplayer matters more than campaign, and zombies.
YOU only care about multiplayer in cod and just like the standard idiot applies that to everyone.
"I don't care about the campaign, therfore campaign doesn't matter"
@jaroslavmihok740 and you're so dumb you think I'm talking just graphics.
They focused on gameplay instead of pointless things like voice acting and 8k graphics.
The game isn't high definition when you zoom in.
They made a good game and didn't focus on the stupid fluff,
You're arguing against me with my own point and think you're doing something
I didn't like baldur's gate 3 that much, despite incredible voice acting, pretty nice ost... Too silly, and kinda boring, and loses in comparison to other DnD games because of that.
Rogue trader gives me as much fun, as Tyranny did. Grim, dark, no cultural agenda.
Also, despite the fact that Baldurs gate 3 has better graphics it looks less... Idk, consistent? I just like how a rogue trader looks like.
Also, definitely one of the best UIs made for decades.
This guy is the biggest nerd in the worst possible way lol.
Not even close
Okay I know what an RPG is , but what is a CRPG ? A Canadian role-playing game ? 😂
Computer-rpg I believe
computer role playing game, it used to be a more general term but now its reserved for games attempting to recreate tabletop role playing games like d&d, rouge trader, shadow run, etc. rather than being a video game set in the universe of them it attempts to literally recreate the game inside the computer with certain liberty's taken of course hence the name
I couldn't get through the tutorial. Spent 45 minutes in character creation trying to understand the skill decisions which are incomprehensible, flooding you with poorly described options for play. Then I got in and missed 3 out of 4 shots on the tutorial monster which proceeded to one shot three NPCs in a row. Dialogue is uninteresting, characters seem very generic, never made it past that first impression.
Dude is mental literally says that about every CRPG he plays
verifiably false
He also said Starfield was playable I don’t know man
Eh, i played Starfield for like 70 hours, it didnt meet the expectation, but to call it unplayable is just terrible hyperbole.
it was playable, doesn't mean it was good XD
starfield is playable. Damnation through faint praise dude.
Playable =/= good or enjoyable. It does just enough.
yeah thats a ridiculous take. "If they had the veneer of Baldur's Gate" my dude, that's literally 90% of what makes BG3 the success that it is. Without voice acting and ANIMATIONS that, AGAIN, take like a 90% of the budget of the whole game, you can't even come close, and its ridiculous to even attempt to put these two games into the same category.
In other news, if my late granma had a d**k, she'd be my granpa
I dont think gamers understand how important the "veneer," or presentation of a game actually is to them. Presentation is the entire reason you're playing a video game CRPG and not a traditional pen and paper role playing game.
Bringing imagination to life is part of what video games are supposed to do.
Mechanics, graphics, sound, and animation that's supposed to fill in as many gaps in your imagination as it can, and it's how it sells the experience.
Does this game of the same level of choice as in BG3?
The world building and immersion was actually better in Rogue Trader. BG3 got too silly and too modern day politics in parts.
If if if if if if, that’s the thing, *it’s not* and *it didn’t happen* . So yeah, I still stand by my point that this game is absolute dogshlt and lazy, just like the majority of GW games. At the very bare minimum of a least, they could’ve done a better job with the sound effect, making them have more impact inline with the canonical lore description of it, but no, they gotta have all of them sound like wet farts
What a ridiculous thing to say.
@@drugmate9710agreed,the games are awesome, and I'm definitely gonna pick the game up today
Wash your hair
only real flaw was the literal impossibility of beating chapter one...guess then they'd have had to program a full game...as it is anyone who claims to have gotten past chapter one is either a hacker or a liar.
What?
Both Rouge Trader and Baldur’s Gate was buggy & the quality dropped significantly after the first acts.
Giving "game of the year" to games that was clearly not ready to be released is just telling companies too keep doing it. It's hurting the industry.
But giving Starfield the steam award for most innovative game of the year wasn't hurting the industry?
@@Selnathorn Are you saying that in order to criticise the two games that were mentioned in the video, I’ve to mention every single game in 2023 that was released in an unacceptable state?
@@akaLuckyEye_G It is disingenuous to atleast Baldur's Gate. Even with the faults mentioned, it was above everything that ususally gets barfed out in the triple A industry.
So calling something that did it better than the rest hurting is like calling the kid who got a B- on a test, while the rest aimed for a D, a failure.
@@Selnathorn Something is not automatically good just because you think it’s better than something else. The only information one could gather from that is your personal taste in games.
But more importantly, I’m not talking about good and bad games. I’m talking about the condition a game is released in. The conditions BG and RT were released in were unacceptable. Yes, other games were released in worse conditions. But there were also games that were released in much better conditions than BG and RT.
In your analogy you state that BG was graded a B-, while the rest aimed for a D. You never graded the rest and even if you meant that the rest received a D, it would mean that they passed. I guess it depends on where in the world you live but in Sweden D is even one above a passing grade.
To use your analogy to explain my point. BG aimed for B and the rest aimed for E, the lowest passing grade in Sweden, but both got F (Failed). Because again, I’m talking about the state in which a game is released, not what the game one day will be when it’s patched.
It’s not a good analogy though because we’re talking about companies whose goal is to earn money by selling products to consumers. Not children being schooled into society. The standard for a product, people pay for, should be higher than “being better than Activision, Ubisoft or Bethesda”.
If you enjoy and like BG just say so. It’s 100% ok to like a game that was released in an unacceptable condition but rewarding a company for it is hurting the industry. You’re telling the company that it is acceptable behaviour and in the worst case scenario the company will one day become just as bad as the rest.
You have MASSIVELY misanalyzed that situation. The "drop" in quality is overstated greatly in both cases. Act 3 of BG3 alone could be GOTY, but it's not as good compared to Act 1 overall. This isn't an "industry issue".
Why can't you tell youtube not to recommend a channel for shorts? I swear RUclips refuses to get this guy off my page, I'm haunted by his bowl cut.
Games good. Company a shitty Kickstarter scam.
