Thanks to the ongoing shortage of bikes among the LBSs, I received my Xtrada 6 this week. I was going to splurge on the Extrada 7, but it was back-ordered until "we'll let you know when we get more." My first ride was yesterday. I too was very impressed with what Polygon packed into a HT costing just under a thousand dollars. Unfortunately, I was limited to the seafoam green, dark green and black color scheme. I figure you don't look at your own bike that much anyway.... Luckily the Polygon is a replacement for an older HT with a 27.2mm seatpost that already had a dropper (Pine), so I just swapped it over. So lazy am I, I didn't even change the cable, I just velcroed it externally for the nonce. I mount my dropper lever on the left, so the factory cable routing was not a concern. The saddle really is nice. It is strange that Entity has an on-line store, but the saddle section is, and I quote, "Empty." Polygon doesn't sell the saddle either. An odd business choice.
Glad you're enjoying the Xtrada. The color schemes are polarizing to say the least although I kind of like the seafoam green. 😀 ...and yes a huge missed opportunity on those Void saddles. They are fantastic.
Great review, thanks. I bought an Xtrada 5 29" and I love it! I have used it a lot over summer including 3 bikepacking trips. It has really stable geometry and climbs brilliantly with those head and seat angles. The bike handles carrying loads really well with the long wheelbase but doesn't feel sluggish on the corners. I haven't changed the saddle and have had it for my all day rides, but I don't think it is as comfortable as my previous Voodoo saddle. Halfords UK sell this saddle as an after market item. The one thing I'd change is the tyres which I feel are too soft and heavy, but I've almost worn the rear out in 3 months anyway!
Great to hear about your experience. A lot of people ask me about its bikepacking capabilities. I agree, the stock tires aren't the best. A tire upgrade and tubeless conversion will likely give a big improvement in performance. Plenty of treads and compounds to choose from. Enjoy!

I have a Polygon Xtrada 6 2x11. I deliberately went for the 2x drive train because it has more range for my off-road and on-road riding. On the whole it’s been a great bike. I do have one gripe though: The left crank fell off during my first month before I had even taken it off-road. The crankset working loose has been a repeat problem. Otherwise I love this ride. I’ve got two sets of wheels for it so I can easily transition between slick road tyres for commuting and off-road tyres for fun.
A 2x is great for your needs. The extra gearing really helps on commutes. Shimano cranks tend to work loose like that. A tip to help reduce the issue: Tighten the preload cap (not too tight). Then alternate when tightening the pinch bolts. Tighten each bolt a little at a time a until you reach the specified torque. Which is 12nm if I recall correctly. Also it doesn't hurt to put a drop of blue Loctite on each bolt. Enjoy! Either way
It's so hard finding new bikes right now. I saw some sizes in the Xtrada 7 were available for pre-order. That was as of few days ago. I've never seen anything like this.
It depends on your leg length. Bikes Online has a size calculator. You can input your measurements, and it'll give you a recommended size based on that.
Great review. Pulled the trigger on an Xtrada 7, can't wait. Just curious whether you we're able to properly route cables and how much of a pain it was? Also, I noticed that Xtrada 7 frame is Boost, yet it's specced with a non-boost fork. Would that be an issue at all?
I haven't done it yet. I don't expect it to be difficult. The non boost fork shouldn't be an issue. If you upgrade to a boost fork, a non boost wheel can typically be adapted to it. Boost in the rear provides additional strength where it's most needed as well as the ability to run a 12 speed cassette.
I did it to mine. It wasn’t really that hard. The first time you route one it’s a bit frustrating to get the cable through the holes in the frame but it wasn’t overly difficult.
Awesome. New bike days are the best! I would suggest getting a quality pair of pedals and ride it as is first. After that you will find out which upgrades you will want/need. Glad you enjoyed the video! 😁
@@Hillm1021 hard to say. Everyone is proportioned differently. If you used the sizing tool on bikes online, you should be in the right size. The standover height is relatively low. If you end up having to cut the seat tube it's a pretty minor adjustment.
After your vids I grabbed one. Coming from a road bike it’s taken a bit of adjustment being so upright and closer to the bars, but the saddle, superb, only wear board shorts instead of needing chamois, feels awesome? 👍
I'm coming off an inexpensive Columbia bike and I'm looking for something I can ride on the street or on trails. Would the Xtrada 6 work for me? It seems the Hybrid bikes I've seen are not really meant for trail riding, but maybe I'm wrong. I tend to ride on the street to get to trails near me- some are gravel/dirt roads and others are I guess what you would call single track trails (similar to what you are riding on in this video. What bike would you recommend?
A hybrid tends to be more pavement focused and spec'd as such. Which is ironic since the the term implies capability on and off road. The Xtrada would be a good all around bike that would work fine in all the conditions you mentioned. I have a video where we took the bike on a gravel ride. I frequently use the Xtrada around the neighborhood as well.
I was able to fit a 2.6 on the rear. The only problem with a 2.6 on Xtrada 6 is the rim width which is 24mm. The Xtrada 7 comes with 30mm wide rims that would work better with bigger tires. I don't think the XCR air fork will have more clearance. I believe it's the same chassis as the coil version.
@@AdrenalineIsLife My teenage son is eager to convert to tubeless and a bit obsessed with getting the biggest tires possible. He showed me some 27.5 x 2.6 and 27.5 x 2.8 models but I was skeptical. Do I understand correctly that even a 2.4 is problematic on the front? I thought having him listen to your comment about 4 minutes in that you recommend no larger than 2.3 would settle things but he keeps pushing me. What was your riding experience with the 2.6 on the rear, and what did you pair it with in the front?
@@mattw3766 2.8in is 27.5 plus territory. The risk with using too big of a tire on that fork is a lack of clearance. You need some room to clear mud and debris. The tire can rub against the fork under load if not immediately obvious at installation. A 2.2 or 2.3in tire will be faster and more responsive. 2.4in is at the limit in my opinion and will depend on the tire. Some tires are bulkier than others.
I want a nice fat tire both in the back and front so there's some cushioning. Do you think I can buy a 2.3 or 2.4 in tire for this bike. I am little worried these tires might be too big for the rims.
@@AdrenalineIsLife Thanks for the reply! Also, my friend has a 2022 trek marlin 5 and he thinks it's better than the beloved xtrada 6, can you please verify that this is a better bike than the Trek. Thanks!
@@premamahendran6823 only the rider can decide what they like better. The Xtrada 6 has a much higher spec than the Marlin 5. I have owned both. The Xtrada 6 is better in my opinion.
They are very different bikes at different prices. The D6 is a great value for a full suspension bike. I haven't ridden it but hopefully someone can comment on their experience with it.
The Xtrada 6 is less expensive for similar spec. The Marin uses 135mm dropouts while the Xtrada 6 uses the more modern 141mm boost dropouts. The Marin is priced similar to the Xtrada 7 which has a stronger 148mm boost through axle frame and 12 speed full shimano groupset. The benefit of the Marin is the larger seatpost diameter. It will accept a wider variety of dropper posted than the Xtrada. I really like the color of the Marin. Geometry is similar across both brands. Both are good bikes but Polygon will get you more for your money.
It depends on where you ride and if you prefer to have the extra gears of a 2x system or the better chain retention of a 1x system. On rough terrain I prefer 1x on smoother terrain. a 2x will give more gear options.
How wide of a tire can I fit on the rear without touching thinking of getting one but want to install was thinking of installing maxxis hookworms they are 2.50 changing forks isn’t a problem

@@AdrenalineIsLife I looked at the chart and it seems to have higher than average stack and shorter than average reach which leads me to believe it has a more upright position. So I guess I would like to know how the reach and overall length of the bike affects handling. Does the frame geo seem more of a relaxed fit and thus a begginer's bike?
@@juanposada9319 it depends on what bikes you're comparing it to. I don't feel as upright as I do on my Ragley Marley which has a shorter reach and longer stack height. The Marley is more descent focused. The Xtrada is more XC focused.
The Marlin is a good starter bike and would have local bike shop support. The Xtrada is somewhat more comparable to the Trek Roscoe. The Marlin 7 has older geometry and shorter travel. Not necessarily a bad thing if you ride flat mellow trails. Trek gives you a 10sp (11-46 tooth cassette) drivetrain. The Xtrada will have a more modern geometry, longer travel fork and will have a wider range 11 speed drivetrain (11-51 tooth cassette) . It will be more capable on more varied terrain than the Marlin IMO.

I am deciding which bike to get and got stuck on QR and thru axles. 8 am scared of getting a bike 2ith QR as to my knowledge they aren't as secure as thru axles and I have read that QR affects braking and the wheel can come off. I am scared for life as I ride fast. I don't trail ride though. Can you tell from your experience if I should be worried about it or not? I have no experiences with QRs and thru axles. I want to have an Xtrada 6 but the Xtrada 7 is the perfect bike with thru axles and more gears but I don't prefer it's looks that much compared to the Xtrada 6. What are your thoughts on this?
Quick release has been around a long time. It's perfectly fine for most people. If your wheels are properly tightened they aren't coming off. If you aren't riding trails it's even less an issue. BMX bikes have a vertical dropout on the fork and they are used to do jumps and tricks all the time. The brakes are only affected if you dont install the wheel properly or if the brake caliper isn't aligned properly.
Oneup makes one now as well. Has a lower stack height for riders that can't get the post low enough. I've kept it mostly stock for the last two years and it's been pretty reliable. It's my go-to bike for XC rides.
Raceface Atlas bars and stem w/Chester pedals, Stan’s Flow S1 wheel set w/Shimano Ice rotors, Cane Creek 40 headset, Manitou Machete 120mm fork, TranzX Jumpseat dropper, Maxxis tires w/Cushcores, WTB Volt titanium railed seat, Ergon grips. @@i_ride_slow2794 do you think the frame is good enough to justify the upgrades? Is it light compared to other mid tier options? I ask because I am considering getting the 7 and know that I would need to upgrade at least wheels and fork.
@@juanposada9319 I’m no expert but yes I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think it was upgrade worthy. The frame is plenty light, and the build weighs 29.8 lbs right now. The welds aren’t the prettiest but look strong, and the geometry is perfect for a mullet IMO. The 7 also has rear boost 148mm vs. 141 on the 6... I’d totally go for it if you can get one right now.

I preordered mine a month or two ago and it is coming in two days! Any suggestions at first upgrades? Thank you for the amazing video!
Awesome. New bike days are the best! I would suggest getting a quality pair of pedals and ride it as is first. After that you will find out which upgrades you will want/need.
Glad you enjoyed the video! 😁
You ridin DTE Trail in this man??
No. I've never ridden DTE. I plan to this summer.
Just preordered the 2021 xtrada 6 2X11 can’t wait!!! They say ETA JULY 12th what do you think? Great review
Awesome. Glad you liked the video! I really like this bike. Enjoy!
@@AdrenalineIsLife I’m 5’7 and got the medium frame in 27.5. Do you think that would be an ideal fit or am I cutting the seat down
@@Hillm1021 hard to say. Everyone is proportioned differently. If you used the sizing tool on bikes online, you should be in the right size. The standover height is relatively low. If you end up having to cut the seat tube it's a pretty minor adjustment.
@@AdrenalineIsLife thanks enjoy your weekend!
@@Hillm1021 you too!
After your vids I grabbed one.
Coming from a road bike it’s taken a bit of adjustment being so upright and closer to the bars, but the saddle, superb, only wear board shorts instead of needing chamois, feels awesome?
👍
That's great to hear! You'll get acclimated to the riding position. Mountain biking is a blast!
How’s the 2.4 trail king working for you? I’m considering buying that as well and converting tubeless just not sure it that 2.4 fits
I ended up changing to 2.3in Specialized Slaughter tires. The 2.4 Continentals were a bit too balloonish.
Haha alright but did it fit the 25mm rim and fork no problem though?
@@zacharywu5616 They fit fine. They were a little tight on the fork. Continental Trail King tires tend to run a litte big.
@@AdrenalineIsLife alright then imma give it a shot. Thanks for the reply dude
changed to the size of the tire that you are using now
Which one best bro trek marlin 7 or polygon xtrada 6 1 *11?
Polygon Xtrada 6!
Marlin is a waste of money
Is 2.4 the widest that would fit on the rear? Do you think the 2.4 would fit better on the Xtrada 7 with the air fork?
2.3in is safe to use. You can push it to 2.4 with certain tires.
Can someone please answer me😭 Which is better, Siskiu D6 or this bike?
They are very different bikes at different prices. The D6 is a great value for a full suspension bike. I haven't ridden it but hopefully someone can comment on their experience with it.
I am deciding on Xtrada 6 or Marin Bobcat Trail 5... any advice?
The Xtrada 6 is less expensive for similar spec. The Marin uses 135mm dropouts while the Xtrada 6 uses the more modern 141mm boost dropouts. The Marin is priced similar to the Xtrada 7 which has a stronger 148mm boost through axle frame and 12 speed full shimano groupset. The benefit of the Marin is the larger seatpost diameter. It will accept a wider variety of dropper posted than the Xtrada. I really like the color of the Marin. Geometry is similar across both brands. Both are good bikes but Polygon will get you more for your money.
@@AdrenalineIsLife thanks bro, your advice is an eye-opener. Am going with Xtrada 6. Hopefully It can handle rough medium trail
Nice 🔥
I want to get an xtrada 6 but they only currently have it in the 2x11 model. would it be worth it to get it even if i couldn’t get the 1x model?
It depends on where you ride and if you prefer to have the extra gears of a 2x system or the better chain retention of a 1x system. On rough terrain I prefer 1x on smoother terrain. a 2x will give more gear options.
Where are these trails at?
Was filmed at several different trails in the Chicago area. Palos, Saw Wee Kee and Big Marsh.
this or the marin San Quentin 1?
Depends on where you ride. The Marin has more aggressive geometry. If you are just comparing specs. The Xtrada has a better spec for the money.
How wide of a tire can I fit on the rear without touching thinking of getting one but want to install was thinking of installing maxxis hookworms they are 2.50 changing forks isn’t a problem
I was able to fit a 2.6 Michelin Force AM on the back with plenty of room to spare.
@@AdrenalineIsLife thanks for replying fast do you know of a good fork that would work on this bike?
@@ludwint7031 My pleasure. What's your budget and the type of terrain you ride?
@@AdrenalineIsLife honestly not much trails if anything less aggressive then what you did in the video but worth changing and less then 500 if possible no clue on this stuff I road bmx in the past
@@ludwint7031the stock fork is not bad but a nice air fork will really wake up the bike. Look at the Manitou Machete. It's a good fork replacement for the Suntour.

If you decide to switch to boost wheels and can go $20 over your budget, the Marzocchi Bomber Z2 is as goodnas it gets.

Can you comment on geo and sizing?
What would you like to know?
@@AdrenalineIsLife I looked at the chart and it seems to have higher than average stack and shorter than average reach which leads me to believe it has a more upright position. So I guess I would like to know how the reach and overall length of the bike affects handling. Does the frame geo seem more of a relaxed fit and thus a begginer's bike?
@@juanposada9319 it depends on what bikes you're comparing it to. I don't feel as upright as I do on my Ragley Marley which has a shorter reach and longer stack height. The Marley is more descent focused. The Xtrada is more XC focused.
Where did you film?
Palos, Waterfall Glen and Saw Wee Kee.
Tell me I am buying in next month July what should I chose 2021 trek marlin 7 or polygon xtrada 6
Where in the country is this footage from? I swear it looks like KC...Shawnee Mission Park and Minor Park?
All the spots in this video are in Illinois. Palos, SawWeeKee and Big Marsh.

Xtrada 6 or Giant Talón 2 2021?
Xtrada 6. Better fork, better drivetrain, wider rims.
Do you usually prefer 27.5 or 29?
Wheel size is a very personal choice. I prefer 27.5 for more agility. All my bikes are 27.5. If I was racing XC, I would use a 29.
Does anyone know if there is a bike similar to this spec wise but with a dropper post?
You can always have one installed. I'm not aware of any bikes at this price with one.
@@AdrenalineIsLife I would pay a higher price, I just want something with similar specs and geometry but with a dropper.
@@ericcartmansstrengthandpow5960 the Vitus Sentier is an option. Somewhat similar geo.
What size would you recommend for 185 cms height.
Bikes online has a sizing tool that will help you determine the correct size. Based on your height you are likely a size large.
@@AdrenalineIsLife thanks.
I was looking at marin bobcat 3 L size and polygon xtrada XL size..Both have their frame dimensions very similar even if they are 1 size apart..Kind of confusing.
@@AdrenalineIsLife okay, thanks for the reply man!!!!!! Glad to have the reply! Thanks again!!!
You said a 2.3 tire would be the biggest size on the front so a 2.5 would not work right
The rim is not wide enough for a 2.5in. The tires will be ballooned and more likely to fold in hard turns.

The music waving in and out and at varying intensities to the narration is extremely bothersome and difficult to listen to. I had to constantly modulate the volume. This is not a music video, let's skip the tunes and keep it natural.

@@AdrenalineIsLife been considering going for a 140mm rockshox judy even though it will change the geometry. im still not 100% though because it is already agressive enough
@ched plug I wouldn't recommend that. More travel isn't necessary better. A 120mm fork that you can setup for your weight and riding style will make a noticeable difference.
@@AdrenalineIsLife i hear what your saying but the only trails near me are dh so im going to need something solid, my idea is it can even out with sag and some volume spacers
