Us Spaniards have a light breakfast (mostly milk and coffe and toast or similar) but hot lunches and dinners. That makes 14 cooked meals a week. All year round we eat lentils one day a week, pasta one day, chickpeas one day and rice and beans one day a week. We only have meat once a week, fish three times a week and some eggs. The rest are veggies. Our health is great now that we have legumes so often and very little meat, and it is also fantastic for our bank account!

I'm on board 🙂. My husband and I had a goal to pay the principal of our mortgage down 25K in 2020 and yesterday I calculated that we paid 28K yay! We had a good year. But our overall goal was to pay the mortgage off completely and live here forever. But due to unforeseen medical circumstances with 2 of our boys we are needing to move an hour away to be closer to medical services. We are selling jan 6th and will clear 100k that we can use as a down payment on our new home. But since we were not planning to move we did not save the extra $ to pay cash for our new home so we will still have to finance the difference. This no spend (other than moving costs) will get us to a great start of paying off our new home early. Our goal for this house is 5 years, or dec 2025.

Its great for a treat & special occasion. I certainly don't feel any obligation to subsidise someone else's income. I do shop local, buy from couple local websites. Have never bought from Amazon. A good idea, but the only items I need to buy are fresh salad veggies on a weekly basis. Other than that, nothing will change, I have prepped enough food and supplies to last for four or more years with careful use. Good idea and best at the beginning of the year, to set the tone for the year.
Never heard anyone else mention that once a goal is talked about, it feels done! I've been like that for as long as I can remember.
I'm retired on a low, fixed income. I have a no spend life! On some budget categories, I can only allow $3 a month. It's what I have, so that's what I work with. It makes it very difficult to spend...but I also don't need much. My sister sends me socks and undies every year, so that's covered. I didn't have to buy any clothing the whole of 2020!
Very good topic...thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas to you and your family!

We are finding just how much we used to waste on unnecessary purchases in Christmases past. It's been a freeing experience and we will never spend on Christmas like we used to ever again. We will do our family time together chatting over social media this holiday time. I'd rather pay off the house, car and save to semi retire earlier than later to have more time to spend with my family. Time spent with my family is my gift not material possessions.

While I'm not doing this, I am gearing up for 'no new clothes' for me in 2021, the exceptions being socks/underthings if needed, a bathing suit, and ONE pair of running/workout shoes (two if we do indeed get a treadmill again- my last one went ka-put, but I did indeed use it).
I am also planning out eating out. Still working on it! We don't eat out a lot, but it's nice to have some parameters.
Thanks for the encouragement, I think we're all ready for a fresh start!

I’m trying a no spend for the next six months. Only phone $25, storage $40 and electricity maybe $100 a month. $1500 will go to pay down a personal loan. That will be $9,000 payed off in six months. Will not buy groceries or put gas in my car either. I work across the road from my RV . Pantry is prepped for at least six months and this will be a good test for survival.

Tip # 9 for saving your money, if your rent is too high ask your landord to lower it, if that fails relocate to a different area where rents are cheaper.

I can't wait for my tenants to move. I haven't raised rent for years. The unit in the back is about 500 dollars below market. I will raise that unit to market rate!

@@swicheroo1 So you haven't raised your rent in years, well your few and far inbetween, most are up to date every year with their rent increases, so I wish you all the best in your rental business and may you get not only the rent that you deseve but good tenants to boot.

Definitely My aims this year are to get my car back on the road. and save that for that funeral fund. I never understood why people pay to a funeral fund that the company benefits from with interest from investments while they wait for you to die. I would rather I have the interest. Great idea love the game idea. A great idea is to have a competition with someone who shops in the same area to do a non spend. Have a reward at the end like the loser has to mow your lawn for a month or so.

I’m planning on doing this this year besides bills. January and February are always lower spending months for me as I try to make up for Black Friday/ Christmas spending. I’m getting a new furnace for Christmas this year. Very unexpected expense, so goal for the new year is to rebuild the emergency fund.

I'm in a similar boat with rebuilding my emergency fund after my tractor needed major repairs (maintaining my acreage without it is not possible), but I've been honing my no-spend skills over the past couple of months so this coming however-many months won't feel much different.

I can see doing a no spend. I was wondering there are some supplies that I need that Medicare doesn't buy. am I still able to buy types of things & medical supplies?

Yes. Buy what you need and skip the extras.

I’ve been fasting and praying so I don’t need to spend money. I do donate plasma and I have to purchase something to get the cash off of the debit card. I’ll get heavy cream for my coffee. I actually have everything I need. The most I spend for is gas for my car.

I really don't get why people in the frugal community take such pride in eating garbage food. Rice and beans feeds poor people because it is cheap, not because it is nutritious. Eat a vegetable!

Dana, what about a no spending December? I am on the right track so far. I only bought a cheap bottle of champagne for the new year's eve and i used the christmas decorations from last year and it looks pretty good. I am highly motivated to save money for retirement. I've realized that parading in fancy clothes didn't bring me any benefit, but pushed me on the edge of financial collapse. Happy holidays! I love your channel!

And one more thing, Dana said: "look forward, not back", which is a very calming thing to do, but if you can bear the challenge and you had a saving goal throughout 2020, make the calculation of what you did not save in 2020 and try to recover that sum of money throughout 2021, I know it's hard, but you need to set a higher goal in order to have some results, it works for me, but I admit that it's pretty stressful.
