    They are really for completely different things. The Arturia is just for playing virtual instruments on a computer, as opposed to the larger one which is an instrument in itself. I'm looking at getting a MIDI keyboard like the Arturia MiniLab so I can make music in my spare time, and I don't have enough space for a full size keyboard. It needs to fit on my computer desk along with everything else. But you are right that 25 keys limits you to playing pretty much one-handed, 37 keys is the minimum if you want to play chords as well.

      Yes but by the time you’ve put the laptop and the interface and the controller and the USB hub on a table then you’ve taken at the same amount of space! These cute little things are an absolute waste of time, money and effort and usually come with a ton of headaches to get it all working 😊

      @tronlady1 bro that's not even true. It's about space and requirements. That's it.

      @@tronlady1 I still can't imagine using a full keyboard in a rented room. If I had to move I'd have quite a problem.

      Not really you can play chords from the pads with your left hand and the melodys with your right hand, it's not rocket science.

      @@tronlady1 I have setup a raspberry pi as a portable synthesizer. There is also the option to use your phone or tablet. You don't really need a laptop unless you plan to use something like ableton or flstudio.

    I've been through this. First I got Arturia Keystep 37, it was my first ever MIDI keyboard. I was tempted to learn playing piano on it, even though I wanted to make music later on at the same time, but the number of keys and octaves would significantly limit my experience. Then I realized that at the time I wanted to play instruments more than making music, and I needed digital piano instead of MIDI keyboard, so I sold Keystep 37 and got Casio CDP-S110. I learned a little bit of piano, just the basics. I was also learning other instruments (ukulele, mandolin, recorder, tin whistle), and I got really good at them. Unlike piano, I could progress faster with those instruments self-taught, and piano takes too much effort to play good, because I needed to sync both hands and learn some academic approach, that could only be achieved with a teacher.
    Then when I tired of just playing instruments and learned some basics, I sold digital piano and purchased Arturia Minilab 3 instead.
    I finally realized that all MIDI keyboards are for different purpose. They are not meant for playing music, they are intended for making music (not in real time), and you use them to record sequences one after another, you don't need too much coordination there unlike Piano where you play in real time and use both hands simulteniously. That said, MIDI keyboards (small ones) are for making music sequences / loops. Also they have different key mechanics than piano, (piano has full-weighted keys, which is very crucial part for piano skills). Now I use MIDI Keyboard exclusively only for music making / looping / sequencing. For that purpose I have enough keyboard skill, and given that I learned some basics, know about scales and such, some music theory that I learned playing other (plucked / woodwind) instruments give me enough knowledge to try and produce some stuff. It's still a hobby, but I finally found what I needed and for what purposes: acoustic instruments for playing music, MIDI keyboard for producing music.

    Your video got me wondering - have you ever tried using computer keyboard shortcuts in place of a MIDI keyboard for DAW operation? Obviously the computer keys cannot replace keyboard keys or pads or encoders, but for everything else they could work.

    haha nice video man. One reason I think people would prefer a midi keyboard over the one with speakers is because most midi dont require a power source just plug to your computer and it works. also not everybody wants the speakers and a standalone keyboard like me. but it's definitely a plus. the only thing I dont like about the 25 mini keys is that they are mini Keys so small😪😪 plus all other points you mentioned🤣🤣

    • @ShoppingBored
      @ShoppingBored 3 месяца назад +1

      Usb is the power source already. Older midi controllers from the 80s and 90s required an additional power source.

    I use the Arturia MiniLab 3 mainly because I don’t have enough room for my Yamaha PSR-EW425 76-key Portable Arranger in my room. And since I’ve had health problems and now am in a wheelchair I cannot manage to maneuver the larger keyboard out of the closet and unto my desk and back. The minilab 3 is small enough to leave out on my desk.

    Bro can we make looper using digital keyboard (Yamaha and casio) like a lot of people do with the midi controller? And if yes then could you make a tutorial with casio one

    • @Maximoltz
      @Maximoltz  10 месяцев назад

      My Casio does have 8 tracks(Instrument loops) to record but I don't really use it because idk why it is never on point for me. Using a DAW like Ableton to loop is easier and more versatile than the Digital Keyboard.

    I have 5 midi keyboards. Keylab Essential 49 is lightweight and used for live, The MPK Mini 3 is The one I take with My Laptop for mobile production, The MPK49 is for the Novation Peak Synth. The MPK 249 is the main studio keyboard. The Alisus mini is for My little laptop for when I dont want to take the full size laptop out.

    Personally id go for 32 keys if space is an issue. I have a 61 key midi keyboard but after moving, i mostly use a small 32 key keyboard. Don't havethe space for the big one. What i do is vst heavy so if im not physically inputting the midi, im playing it on the keyboard. 32 feels like a decent amount of keys more a melody with one instrument, chords with another and bass on another. Can just use keys for for drums.

    I was thinking of buying a small keyboard but now I may not. I heard mod wheel is important. Anything else needed? Some use a padel but not sure if keyboard has some alternative to that. I use FL Studio and make dance and orchestral music.

      Get two keyboards Get the Akai MPK Mini and the Arturia Keylab essential. You get the best of both worlds, they are lightweight mobile, plus because it's two different competitor brands You get twice the amount of included software.

    Absolutely bang on. The whole 25 keys thing sucks. It’s a frickin toy that needs a ton of other gear to work. There will be thousands of them bought by people who fell for the marketing, that never get used….at least the akai mini play has sounds and the 37 key one looks more useable 😊

    Viable alternatives: Yamaha PSS-A50 (3 octaves) or AKAI MPK Mini Play (2 octaves). Both have MIDI, a nice selection of sounds (and other features), an integrated speaker, and they both run on battery.

      2 octaves are very limiting bro, if you just want to play melodies then it is okay, but after you learn a little bit about playing the keyboard you will feel the need to have a bigger-sized one.

    I'm going to use a 37 and 25 key board easier in software (pretty much all) to do split instruments (low keys play something other then low keys). But just 37 alone would be bad let alone 25 for most uses.

    In my case I don’t have much space on my desk for a full sized MIDI keyboard, so i have AKAI 25 which i use a-lot🙌🏻. I also don’t have used the infinity knobs as well😂, but the pads are worth it if you’re producing beats and all.
