    This is a fantastic build and video mate. You made it really easy for us peons to understand. What I love most is the lack of fabrication tools needed in this. Most other folding knife videos use lazer/water jet cut parts and mills and lots of little shim washers. Thanks for making folding knives approachable. Would that back spacer still technically be considered a back spring though as it does provide that bit of flex when opening and closing?

    • @SamTownsBladesmith
      @SamTownsBladesmith  3 года назад

      Thanks mate! Accessibility is my jam! In this case the back spacer doesn't really impinge on the pivot, so it can't really be called a back spring, though with a couple of tweaks it certainly could!

    Just started watching, and loved the tip on vinegar. I will be using this for the future

    • @SamTownsBladesmith
      @SamTownsBladesmith  3 года назад

      Yeah it's useful, especially for pieces that are particularly scaled up or covered in borax glass

    • @TheIntermont
      @TheIntermont 3 года назад

      If you heat the vinegar, you can get a very fast action.

    That is super cool! I've never seen a friction folder like that before. Also that grinding jig is genius i always have a hard time holding little pieces.

    • @SamTownsBladesmith
      @SamTownsBladesmith  3 года назад

      Yeah the rezolas are pretty cool, thr jig would be better if the "pin" through the pivot was actually screwed into the support bar to stop the blade from being tipped.

    Nice video :) I'm glad I saw that heat patina thing before I did the glue up on my little copper-ferruled carving knife :D
    That said, you just had to tease with the "handsanded on a surface plate to get it perfectly flat and parallel" thing! :D
    I guess there wasn't enough interest in the "attaining flatness" videos to justify making the one about getting things parallel. I totally understand that.. No point making videos if enough people aren't interested, but it's a shame... I haven't had any luck finding anything on that anywhere.
    I have a piece of simple damascus that I got to make on a blacksmithing course I attend that I'm planning to make into a pocket knife. The biggest problem I have at this point is getting the plank flat and parallel using hand tools. Your "Attaining flatness part 1" video solves the first part, but I'm still not sure how to get it parallel. All I've thought of so far is using a mixture of careful marking and filing, and a file holding jig to keep the file a set distance from a surface with the plank on it. Hopefully it'll get me close enough!
