Restoration of Old Pocket KNIFE - To CARRY Every Day

- Hi! Today, the restoration of an old rusty pocket knife. I bought it at a flea market cheap. The condition of the knife is terrible, the rust is deep, there are no original parts on the handle of the knife. I'll fix it, I'm starting to restore the knife!
First, I took the knife apart, I put the blade and part of the mechanism in a rust remover. I dropped the steel linings, welded some of them with a welding machine and sanded them. They turned out like new.
I cleaned and degreased the handle of my pocket knife. I glued the crack in the wood handle of the knife and then sanded it. After that, I glued it to the main iron part and put it aside for a while. Also, in the process of assembling the knife, I realized that this knife had been redone a couple of times. Judging by the different sizes of the parts, by the extra number of holes in the handle.
I washed the blade of the knife and part of the mechanism in soda water and cleaned it with a laser brush. Next, I hand-ground the knife and sharpened it.
Instead of the lost parts of the knife handle, I used a deer horn. I used steel and brass pins. I riveted everything, sanded and soaked it with linseed oil, tried my best to leave the knife looking old and worn. Thank you for your attention and don't forget to share this video!

I almost had to hide my eyes when you pried the knife apart instead of just knocking the pins out! But I can’t argue with the result. Nicely done.
That's where I paused. The cringing may not be worth it.
They were rusted and stuck, I would've done the same, much less of a pain in the ass than trying to knock them out.

As a kid I had a Hawkbill Knife made by Barlow.

Wow ,that touches my old heart ! I own one exactly like that wich belonged to my father . I Carry it in my backpack all the time alone with my 40 year old opinel ,lol. They are both easy to sharpen and keep their edge well. That knife was used by my dad for working in his vegetable garden it's a pruning knife that's why it has a think sicklelike Blade. Thanks again and I hope theres a " beep beep " in it for my oldman ,lol😂

Nice restoration. I have a similar knife, but wouldn't consider it for every-day carry. I have a thumb-stud folder that clips in my pocket, easy to grab and use one-handed.

Шикарный проект, неожиданно интересный компактный по моему садовый ножик. Когда соберется много ржавчины, её восстановить химически до железа, а потом расковать в кузне как компонент какого нибудь изделия, как люди из кричного железа что-то творят или оставить как крицу до лучших времен своей кузницы.

@@ziegenwilly Yes, welding and inert gas are very convenient and healthy. The electric arc is not particularly convenient to cook parts even if the electrode is 2 mm

Мало того, что этот нож прививочный, он ещё и окулировочный. Есть ещё копулировочный, видимо для разных способов прививки.

О, у меня похожий на кармане был, тока щёчки были совсем тоненькие. Под бытовые задачи самое то! Единственное лезвие я из мехпилы делал... Родное было совсем фиговое.
У нас на даче был такой же нож. Отец называл его "огородный", форма лезвия подходит для подрезки, прививания и т. д. идеально, а вот консервы (для тур. ножа важно))) уже проблема открыть...)))) Работа проделана огромная, моë почтение и лайк! ❤ Куда делась чашечка с ложкой для смолы?)))

С шансами этот нож мог повидать ещё Войну; такие же входили в набор фельдшерских сумок (применялись для разрезания одежды на раненых, чтобы не повредить самого раненого), и лишь потом превратились в инструмент грибника (хотя вообще изначально это садовый нож). В прошлом году такой же покупал, для реконструкции, на блошином рынке. Нашёл нож конца 40-х годов.
Глупость написали. садовый нож существовал давно. в санитарные сумки мичуринец (сам мичурин умер в 1935) попал только потому что их было много в наличии и он подходил. грибники с садовыми ножами не ходят, у них свой есть, тонкий, с кисточкой. а те кто все же ходит, с таким же успехом могут носить топор или ручной лобзик, но после этого лобзик грибным не станет.
