i love this shelter! it is my most favorite yet! If only I could get one. i don't really live in Tornado ally but here in east nc we get our share of tornadoes. this would be a fun youtube videos for me to make. maybe one day. :)

Having survived the Mar 2011 tornado in a storm shelter, those folding handles are ridiculous ! I barely had time to get the door down and latch one of the locks and was struggling to get the other two locked as the pressure was trying to suck the door open. Also a tree did fall across the door blocking it. However my door being on a 45 degree angle allowed me to bump enough of the tree to allow me to get the door open to get out and clear it. Had it had a flat door it wouldn’t have been possible. So people, take that into consideration.

Do they even sell this in 2021? Very hard to get that information plus pricing.

It looked like in the new home construction segment that it had been set in concrete. I don't know if the whole unit was filled with concrete completely around it, or if it was just a poured pad of it on top of the ground around the door.
I would think it could be completely sealed in with concrete all around it, which would give it even extra weight and protection in the ground. Maybe a thick footing poured first in the ground for it to sit on, then have it filled in around it.

I’m afraid it will float out due to ground moisture. Several steel shelters installed inside garages even have floated out.

If you ever take a look at ALL of the shelters that have ever made news headlines for floating out of the ground over the last several decades, ALL of them are Cookie cutter knock offs of VERY VERY POOR DESIGNS!! Large flat walls, large flat bottoms- Thankfully our unit's design is NOT a knock off of all the other fly by nights Storm shelters! Our unit's patented design features a reverse taper, with deep protruding ribs and the exterior and bottom of the unit is not completely flat. We've never had a single shelter EVER float out of the ground! Even have a competitor who 15 years ago tried to get our unit to float out of the ground... Now he's virtually out of business- Imagine that!!

Currently all sales to the state of Minnesota are direct from our manufacturing facility in Ohio. Thanks!

Couldn't the tornado suck up that loose dirt? You'd be better to use concrete.

Literally thousands of them in the ground and zero of them required concrete. While some home owners elected to choose to concrete around their units in patios, home foundations, etc. It has not been necessary for a single unit up to this point. Unlike most of Storm Shelter manufacturers, we can proudly state the claim that we have never had a unit float out of the ground. Strictly a consumer choice with our patented innovative design.
