    Oh wow the memories. This was what we did as children before Playdough playsets existed. Every kid loved making these with their mom! Also, my mom would separate the dough into 3 bowls and add a couple drops of food color. Then when you make the wreaths or trees you can make them green, or have red stockings, etc.

    When I was a way little boy, I used to help my mom make these cookies. We would make the dough in her Sunbeam mixer and cookie press she received as a wedding gift in 1946 {I have both and both still work, stand mixers suck]. My fav was the Xmas tree and Star of David. I haven't done these for years, maybe now is a good time.

    Almond extract is nice in place of vanilla, and they taste nice unfrosted too.

      Agreed. I always do almond for spritz, never vanilla. I've seen some recipes that do some vanilla and some almond which seems strange to me. The most I do for decorating spritz is just food coloring, if I feel like it.

      Always vanilla on spritz for me, I like the delicate buttery vanilla taste. If they use almond that’s all you can taste.

    On the website, the recipe for spritz cookies call for 4 egg yolks and 1 cup confectioner's sugar. In the video, the recipe calls for 1 whole egg and 1 cup of granulated sugar. Which one is correct?

    I love these cookies especially with a drop of jam in the middle. Sometimes when I make it, it doesn't come out of the press even if I pressed it many times. Is it because my dough is too wet?

    How much does the two sticks of butter weigh in grams.. I am from New Zealand 🇳🇿 we don’t get sticks of butter but 200, 400 & 500 gm packs.

    • @mariannesouza8326
      @mariannesouza8326 4 года назад +1

      Betty Hannon 2 U.S. sticks of butter would be 220 grams. (Also called 1/2 pound or 1 U.S. measuring Cup or 8 ounces).
      In the U.S., butter is generally sold in 1-pound boxes of 4 sticks, weighing 4 ounces each.

    An electric cookie press is easier to use, especially if you lack hand strength.

    What's the difference between whipping egg whites with tartar vs heavy whipping cream?

    • @24framedavinci39
      @24framedavinci39 7 лет назад +8

      Those are two completely different products. Egg whites whipped to stiff peaks are a meringue. The cream of tartar just help stabilize them. They reach the stiff peak stage faster and hold it longer.
      Heavy cream whipped up is just that, whipped cream. Most people add a little sugar at the soft peak stage since the cream is more of a texture and less of a flavor.
      Also, most of the time, meringue is baked, either by itself to make cookies or on another dish such as a pie or baked Alaska. If you were to bake whipped cream, you'd definitely ruin it.
      Hope that helped clear things up for you.

    could maple syrup be substituted for the corn syrup?

    • @ohleander02
      @ohleander02 7 лет назад +1

      Marcy Field yes, so can brown rice syrup, honey and molasses..... but each will change the recipe a little.

    • @lisaboban
      @lisaboban 7 лет назад

      Leander T Not a little...the color and texture will be very different. Maple flavor doesn't really compliment citrus. The moisture content of the dough may be thrown off, resulting in a crumblier texture.

    • @ohleander02
      @ohleander02 7 лет назад +1

      Lisa Boban that really depends on your own preferred flavours (whether you like maple with citrus) and your own tastes. additionally, I suggested other syrups as well, just for that reason (taste and texture). finally, I don't believe there was any corn syrup in the dough, just the glaze, so I'm not sure what you're talking about, texture wise. and, in fact, the corn syrup in the glaze could also just be left out.
