TronicsFix Hey Steve thanks for the video. I've been thinking what do you think of the home made fans on the ps4 pro? Some people just drill the square the size of a fan underneath, and mount a different fan.
TronicsFix Hey Steve, I wonder if there a possibility to remove fan blades from fan itself I have a weird noise coming out of it (for me it's a bearing ) I know that PC gpu fans can be easily taken off but on PS4 it seems that the blades are somehow glued (or secured ?) I dont want to pry coz there is some electronic between metal base and blades fan . Any solution for that ? Good content ,greatings.
Ever sinse PS3, I've never found their enclosed cooling system that efficient imo. My PS3 & PS4 have modded vents where the fan is located. Makes a massive difference to it's cooling efficiency. Again, imo. :-)
In my opinion, the decision to put the power supply inside the PS4 contributes to the overall heat. That's why Xbox One manage to stay cool all the time
hey Steve, i love this type of video man, very interesting and informative, would you recommend dust filter covers ( home made or otherwise ) for either of the ps or xbox console air intake vents, or would that restrict air flow to much, thanks man.
Glad you like the vid. If it get's lots of likes & views I'll do more of them. I've not messed with dust filters much but that is something I plan to take a look at sometime...maybe make a vid about them.
Great video, simple and on point, liked. I have a question: what do you think about vertical and horizontal position for the slim, which is the best for cooling? Also very important: if I go vertical without the stand, one of the two intakes of air will be covered. Is it still ok leaving only one intake for air? (The one on top basically).
I don't think the pressure / suction comment is right. Air will move in the direction that the blades are pushing it, drawing in air from elsewhere. These fins are designed to push air out through the circumference of the fan, leaving air to be drawn in from either side - although with the mounting, there is only one side open from which air can be drawn. Without the top part of the case, it won't be able to draw air through the vents on the side, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that air can get into the case, and be drawn into the fan. Without the case, the fan can just draw the air in directly, not just what can get through the vents. The bigger issue is the heatsink. By taking the metal plate off and exposing part of the heatsink, the air has somewhere to escape rather than being blown across the whole of the heatsink - removing the plate will (likely) have a detrimental effect on the cooling. If the top cover was required to increase pressure and force air over the heatsink, then the pressure would also be forcing air out of the vents in the top, rather than drawing it in to feed the fan and blow across the heatsink. The PS5 cooling design isn't that much different to this. Except the PS5 has a larger fan, is able to draw air from both sides of the fan, and has larger vents to allow more air into the fan.
Do you think adding an exhaust fan to the rear of the unit, or alternatively, adding additional vents, would assist with cooling? I noticed during teardown there isn't much in the way of exit strategy for the heated air being pushed over the psu, especially with the increased rate of the pro model. My theory was to have an active exhaust opposite the io board to pull the heated air out independently of the apu cooler, or slotting for additional expelling area.
Thank you for explaining! It is so imperative to know HOW these things work (or at least how they are designed to work). This type of info will help me greatly in my quest of keeping my consoles in great working condition! :D
So I was using my PS4 wrong the entire time, mine sits close to the left side of my desk, preventing some air from flowing gotta put it on the right side, the right side is the right one. Thank you.
I trust Sony's system designers with the PS4. As much as modding and cutting holes in the case to make it "look cool" its not making it "cool". The only functional thing I could see though, is cutting out the plastic over top of the heat sink (the flat part of it) to expose it without any plastic over it. The plastic over the heatsink is basically insulation, so exposing it would drop it some degrees IMO. Just make sure its air tight around the edges so the suction effect is still intact.
Good evening Mr. Steve and community of Tronicsfix. Liked the videos you've been making about hardwares, electronics and ect. on PC plus console particularly for myself and others. My topic of question is heat flow/airflow on a model cuh1200/ PS4 . It worries me quite a bit since it has been about 2-years purchase from now also the probilities of it breaking down because of constant high heat operation over time again and again. I wouldn't want to risk of damaging it so I made probably between 2 - 3 hours of gameplay everytime. I also took self instict to make several tiny holes on the wide side of top hardcover(outside) around the area which the GPUnAPU are located in which generate highest heat source and later rig up a few coustom usb pluged notebook sized mini double fan cooler against those holes as my DIY solution to tackle heating up the machine. For me having to jump over a 400 Dollars loss of broken Playstation console is not an easy thing. Thanks so much for your time sir, is my method going to benefit the longevity of the usage period. so essentially air vents only rely on the back side and left side (if I look from front). So I can keep the ps4 vertical on the right side without hindering the cooling process. Is this right assumption?

I've heard putting a thermal pad on the ps4 pro's Scei and Hdmi chip helps keep it cool. Correct? Yes I've replaced thermal paste even thermal pads. I'm not going to lap my heat sink.
great video steve, congrats, would you recommend dust filter covers, im living in colombia and the temp of my room its about 27-30 °C, and the console temp its 57 - 62 °C, its normal?
I was having this overheating problem with my ps4 original Cleaned everything inside applied new ht gy260 thermal paste i put back all together after running games for 25-40 minutes system overheats and turnoff then i removed top cover and it is working without any problem
2:43 Are you talking about the metal cover or the plastic cover on the top ? I take the plastic case off sometimes is that gonna damage my ps4 slim ? (I play 2 hours in a day )
Ok, question. Is it better to clean around the vents on consoles with a small canister vacuum and pull the hair and dust away, or use a compressed air can and try to blow it away?
Jeffrey Phipps My experience, I just run the brush attachment with a regular vacuum along the vents every two weeks, it doesn't actually fit in the vent slot but the suction would remove any loose particles. After 2 years I open it up and there is no dust on the fan and just a thin line along the inside of the vent that wipes away easily. Been almost 4 years now and no problems.
i just recently replaced my PS4's (fat and 6 yr old) thermal paste and cleaned the unit from dusts, should i needed to allow the thermal paste to settle or i can use the console after applying the paste immediately?
So in the PS4's case, it would make cooling worse if I were to add addition vents (with a dust filter for obvious reasons) directly over the fan? Cause I did that on my PS3 slim (I was afraid of it over heating constantly like both the Fat PS3s I had). I also have a decently sized desk fan to blow addition air over and under the system, with the PS3 having plenty of ground clearance underneath. I am also to afraid to take it further apart than what I already do (I take the top off and the power supply out and use an air compressor to blow out the dust, using a screw driver of something the keep the fan from spinning) to replace the thermal paste. I tryed that with my previous PS3 Fat and ended up breaking the Disc Drive cable connector from the motherboard somehow.
What dictates the fan speed? Is there some sort of temp sensor that tells the fan to speed up or slow down to achieve a optimum operating temp or is the just a few different speeds?
Does external cooling fan that made from third-party have a signifant use to reduce hot? Or is it potentially harm the ps4? I mean if the external cooling fan use the separate power supply, not via ps4's usb
Just don't do this with your system! You'll be generating more airflow than it was designed to have and could create issues with the internal fan - which will overheat and kill the whole console eventually, even if you are feeling it working cooler. PS4 has the same cooling design used on PS3; what you surelly should do is keep it in an open, clean and cool space. Bank and other crucial never stoping servers used to be put in rooms climatizated at around 22ºC/72ºF. If you wanna keep your domestic gaming console working for some years then just take care about the dust (and pets, specially cats!) and think in a way to keep the room where you play at 30ºC/86ºF MAX.
Hi, if I place a fan in the front of the ps4 slim, at a meter and a half away, can the air flow of the external fan cause problems to the flow of fresh air that enters from the sides of the ps4?
I just picked up the glacier white pro a few days ago and I can't tell if the fan kicks on at all. It seems too quiet. I hope it's supposed to be like that...
Question: I have a cheap laptop cooling pad I sit the PS4 on (slim). The fan can be adjusted to be on the left or right side...or middle..Would it be better to have that fan under the heat sink/fan side or the "computer" side?
i have allways wondered how much cooler will a ps4 slim go if you buy an intercooler to the back with 3 small fans? like if compared like you play for few hours and then few hours with the 3 small fans on. will it help? I actually did order an inter cooler for fun from Amazon just so test it out :D
The ps4pro takes air from the left and right sides and then it will eject the hot air from the back.. is that true? ps: I bought a usb cooling fan vertical stand for my pro
I need a new metal plate that goes over the fan. I didn't have the right screw driver and pried it off, but I realize I shouldn't have, do you know where I can find a replacement plate? It's the one shown at the right of the screen at 2:06.
Hello my PS4 has overheating red light and warning sign. It shuts off and is really hot to the touch. I think my fan is no longer working. Is there any ways I can play my PS4 with out having to break warranty, or trying to replace parts/unit?
My ps4 fan makes a faint buzzing sound and I do have the slim. It doesn’t overheat and the fan seems to work normal but what would be the reason for the sound?
Probably coil whine (brief: coil whine is when coils in the power supply vibrate due to power passing in them) it’s completely normal and it doesn’t affect performance or estimated life time, ignore it and have fun gaming... you can look it up
@@acetonezj8363 I got one of the cooling stands for my ps4 slim but soon realized the dual fans were pulling the air away from the intake vents so took it apart and flipped the fans so it forces air into the ps4. now it stays cool to the touch all the time
pls can I ask u a question my ps4 slim is new had for like 3 days.first 2 days worked perfectly.but the last day I switched it on it was refusing for like 2 minutes .then when I kept trying it switched on it should me the home screen with nothing it was just blue.An advice
did you dust it out or change the thermal paste?? problem with my ps4 pro turning into a jet engine was a change of thermal paste and she's quiet as ever... only time it ever got loud was playing certain games like the last of us, horizan zero dawn and even rdr2... there's a RUclips video on how to change the thermal paste helped me a lot 👍🏾
I agree mate, I' just don't believe the presure theory explained here, there are a couple of videos here of the results of the cooling mod, they show how a small opening on the top case just upside the fan improves the temperature, around 6-9 degrees below, resulting in a quieter fan.
Know this is a ps4 vid but i have a damaged hdmi port on my xbox one slim I was wondering how much would it cost to have it swiched with the working one? Thanks to @Andrew Paul.👍
We don't switch them. We replace the broken one with a new one. We charge $89.99 for a 5 business day repair. You can order right here: tronicsfix.com/collections/get-started Tell @Andrew Paul thanks!
I blew the dust out of my ps4 and the fan spun real fast do you think i damaged the fan by spining it. It also got super quite but i can still hear it if i put my ear close to it
It's probably fine. People freak out in the comments section about spinning the fan but you have to spin it really, really fast to ever do any damage to it.
i know youre comment is 2 yrs old but im wonderin if u tried this set-up & i just wanna know if it worked .coz just got a pre owned ps4 & i was thinkin of doin the same straightforward technique to cool the console down & maybe extend its lifespan a bit..tnx
My ps4 when I turn it on its silent and my dad said he can't hear the fan and its broken if I clean the fan will it work Agian or do I have to get the fan replaced help please?
Hi have been experiencing an issue with my PS4 lately it randomly shutdown by itself sometimes and sometimes everything is just fine and it did dat once while in rest mode and one when on the main screen what is actually the cause because my PS4 is not over heating and there is enough air flow if it was overheating I could hear a big sound the it turns off and red light but this just goes off and right now it have been playing for about 4 hours nothing happening so I am really lost please any solution?
It's most likely being caused by faulty solder joints under the APU but be sure that the power cord is plugged in all the way in the back plug the console directly into the wall...sometimes that helps.
Definitely would love to see a pro video man. Or any pro videos at all are cool. Thanks for making this!

I don't know how efficient it is but it works well as long as the console is taken care of.

My ps4 fan makes a faint buzzing sound and I do have the slim. It doesn’t overheat and the fan seems to work normal but what would be the reason for the sound?
Probably coil whine (brief: coil whine is when coils in the power supply vibrate due to power passing in them) it’s completely normal and it doesn’t affect performance or estimated life time, ignore it and have fun gaming... you can look it up
is there any cooling upgrades that can be done ?
Not really that I know of. If I think of anything really good I'll make a video about it.
TronicsFix how about add a extra fan to help in a strategically manner 🤔
Then it wouldn't be the ps4 slim lol
@@acetonezj8363 I got one of the cooling stands for my ps4 slim but soon realized the dual fans were pulling the air away from the intake vents so took it apart and flipped the fans so it forces air into the ps4. now it stays cool to the touch all the time
Does it help if you place a fan on each side to push more air into the vents?
You will break it by pushing the warm air back in.

No extra fans needed, the PS4 does a fine job at keeping itself cool.
pls can I ask u a question my ps4 slim is new had for like 3 days.first 2 days worked perfectly.but the last day I switched it on it was refusing for like 2 minutes .then when I kept trying it switched on it should me the home screen with nothing it was just blue.An advice
Hmmm...don't really know without being able to test it.
TronicsFix now it just turns on for like 10 second then turns right back off.keep in mind itz ps4 slim.it's it like and apu problem cause its new
Ya well my PS4 Pro is way much quiet with the panel off. Thing screams even when simply watching RUclips, I'm giving up in this poor machine
did you dust it out or change the thermal paste?? problem with my ps4 pro turning into a jet engine was a change of thermal paste and she's quiet as ever... only time it ever got loud was playing certain games like the last of us, horizan zero dawn and even rdr2... there's a RUclips video on how to change the thermal paste helped me a lot 👍🏾
I agree mate, I' just don't believe the presure theory explained here, there are a couple of videos here of the results of the cooling mod, they show how a small opening on the top case just upside the fan improves the temperature, around 6-9 degrees below, resulting in a quieter fan.
Hey,my ps4 s fan is currently broken ,will it be fixed if I use an external fan for it ,cause my ps4 turns off when the temperature is too high .
Same
Se o cooler for girado com a mão no sentido contrário, pode ocasionar alguma avaria nele??
Know this is a ps4 vid but i have a damaged hdmi port on my xbox one slim I was wondering how much would it cost to have it swiched with the working one? Thanks to @Andrew Paul.👍
We don't switch them. We replace the broken one with a new one. We charge $89.99 for a 5 business day repair. You can order right here: tronicsfix.com/collections/get-started
Tell @Andrew Paul thanks!
@@Tronicsfix thats good to hear its working perfectly and its super quite now👍
Wow I didn't notice the fan was in the front of the PS4.
PS4 got the same placement for air intake?
What is your next video going to be about
I'm not sure...what do you think it should be about?
I have my cover off can I aim my fan at the cooling fan to make the cool air get suck in better?
i know youre comment is 2 yrs old but im wonderin if u tried this set-up & i just wanna know if it worked .coz just got a pre owned ps4 & i was thinkin of doin the same straightforward technique to cool the console down & maybe extend its lifespan a bit..tnx
My ps4 when I turn it on its silent and my dad said he can't hear the fan and its broken if I clean the fan will it work Agian or do I have to get the fan replaced help please?
ty_try for 2k Does it end up shutting off from overheating? And Idk about the last part, may just have to wait until he replies.
yeah it says '' your ps4 is to hot turning off and wait until the tempature is down but I haven't played in days
Koogboi and like my fan doesn't move at all and then its shuts off if I go inside the ps4 and clean the fan will it move Agian or get a new fan
Cleaning the fan will not get it working again. It's burned out and needs to be replaced.
TronicsFix thank you and should I do it at home or give it to a store
Is it normal that the heatsink it self getting warm or hot ?
My ps4 keeps feeling and smelling hot how do I clean it? And what part is making it overheat
Change thermal paste and clean for dust.
Hi, will vapour damage ps4 console, if you vape alot and play games?
No idea...it wouldn't surprise me if it did.
xbox one x vape chamber going to be interesting
Yes...that's going to be a good one to teardown!
Please help me I beg you my PS4 beeps 3 times and turn off with red light.
how long shud i clean my ps4 again?
Like 3 times a month
@@Arifm006 WTF, why would you need to clean it so often?
So i can play really quietly in the night without anyone noticing. Its actually really quiet!
Is it possible 2 remove a hdmi port from a slim and place it on a original ps4 motherboard??
No, they are totally different and not compatible. Why would you want to when parts are readily available?
I can’t feel anything from the side of the PS4 is it damaged?
SuperCMTR CT
As long as it’s not overheating, then, no.
What type of fan is it? Can it be replaced?
It's custom made for the PS4. Yes, it can be replaced.
The PS4 Pro equivalent of this vid is the fan spinning like crazy, creating 9000db of annoying noise... :P :)
What if you put some fan on the side?
i opened my ps4 and i clean it up it was full of dust inside
Yep...pretty common.
TronicsFix i changed power cord so I am still waiting to see if it happens again the console is 2 weeks old
Not gaming much
What is the funktion off the silver metal Shield on the power suply?
Looks to be some kind of grounding plate.
TronicsFix thanks for the information :)
