"The last song I wrote with Third Eye Blind". If you consider what this song is, and how it's constructed, I can only imagine what the next song Kevin could've/would've written with 3eb, and how great it would be.
@@norrismantooth3 ahh, i just meant in line with what his next songs would have sounded like, that's about as close as we get. chill will always be my favorite.
I was a teen and this band was magical to me....until Kevin left. I tried, but they never spoke to me again. I figured out that it wasn't Jenkins speaking to me as much as Kevin and his guitar work. Kevin, if you read this stuff, you made that band. You were the sound.
Just saw 3eb not long ago in July. I will always love the band. But they will NEVER be what they were when you were with them Kevin. I still listen to your individual records, especially Thousand Yard Stare. I know you're still doing projects with Steve and hopefully still Arion as he was just as special as you were to 3eb, but I hope you never stop playing man. Your work has resonated with me over the last ten years and you will always be one of my favourite musicians. Keep jamming man and I hope to see you play live one day.
A few things here: Kevin is a master of the guitar, and does what he does excellently. Even when he just plays around like this, it sounds so professional. It sounds like a real song. You'd be blown away at how many famous, professional guitarists sound pretty sloppy and amateur when they do something like this. I guess Kevin may not be Steve Vai, but you don't need that to craft the awesome power pop/indie songs he is playing. In fact, he's probably better than Vai at crafting an actual cohesive song. Another thing: without Cadogan 3EB is pretty much not a real band. Someone needs to shake Stephan Jenkins and tell him that he's not making real songs. His songs without Kevin are sort of just ideas for songs that aren't really finished.
I have loved 3EB for over 20 years, kevins guitar, songwriting, ect combined with Stephens lyrics is what made 3EB so good. It has never been the same since 2000. I have still bought all the albums though. I could only hope both of these fantastic artists would swallow their pride someday and do their fans the pleasure of making an album together again.
You would THINK...the current guitar player would watch this video to learn how to play this song, but...alas...nope. To this day, he bastardizes it in every live performance. I don't mean 'making it his own,' I mean straight up not knowing the parts. Kevin is DEFINITELY the sound of 3EB in my book; nothing compares to his guitar work. Although I love a few songs off of "OOTV," they pale in comparison to the first 2 albums. Kevin thank you for sharing your gift with the world.
Guitar Players the real secret to Kevin’s songs are the awesome tunings he uses. DADEAC# here. They can be tricky to figure out but he gives it away in this video right at the beginning by playing 12 fret harmonics which reflect the tuning and open strings. Another “tell” are drone strings throughout the song, typically the high 2 or 3 strings. Sometimes he uses a capo so you have to factor in that possibility. Kevin’s sound like Kevin because of his tunings and unique chord voicings he creates from them.
The magic of playing tracks over tracks. That's what makes them great. Kevin is a great no doubt, But I dont feel the suns coming out today, As I Fade Away
One of my Fave songs | song structures still to this day. Imagine 3EB today before the egotistical BS.. Cadogan Your still the man.. ROCK ON BABY... !!!!!!!!
What tuning is this in? I love 3eb Kevin-era tunes, but man, I'll be damned if I can figure out how to play them. Although I would love to play along to my iTunes, I'm kinda glad I don't know how. Might destroy the magic of not knowing!
That is incorrect. It's a variation of the open D tuning. I use DADEAC#. That may not be correct either but it works for me according to how he's playing it here. I just started working on it. It may be DADF#AC#. Please don't take my comment as critical. I just feel the standard open D doesn't work. If you find what does let me know. It's so difficult to learn when the tuning is wrong. I look for precision doing a cover. A conversion should only be done by the author. It's theirs to change
Most heart felt guitarist I have ever heard !
I'm so fucking glad this video exists.
The magic of Kevin Cadogan's guitar playing. Puts me in a mystical place.

if you havent listened to his solo albums, you really should
Have originals of the Bully 4 U CDs.

out of vain is good but the first two are classics
@@manlymen552 Completely agree. Out of the Vein is filled with well-written songs, but they just don't have the same musical substance or freshness.
you ever hear a guitar riff that is undeniably haunting and strikes you as perfection? this is one of them... and they are extremely rare...

I love this song, its their best by far, but 3eb has many good songs. KC has not written much later of note sadly.
NO ONE sounds like this guy. Just an amazing artist.
too good, I come back to this every couple years. probably not enough
Miss his stuff. Too bad he’s pretty much disappeared. Hope he comes back and does a live show.

Amazing riff, really love kevin's work.
You're my biggest inspiration and you have been since '97. Thanks, Kevin.
Magical, melodic playing. Beautiful. The first two TEB albums are some of the best.

Interesting that Kevin is as capable left handed as he is right-handed. MASTERFUL
its just the camera, its like flipped for some reason, he is right handed and is playing right handed in this

after to listening to teb for years this grew to be my favorite song. I love to listen to after my run in Yorktown on my drive back home.
My guitar hero. :)

Would love to see one of these for The Red Summer Sun! Including the detached solo part that got tacked onto the end of Blue, of course.

Shoot Straight Your initial instinct was correct. It is DADEAC#. One tiny half note different than the God of Wine tuning, which is DADEAD.
@@shootstraight6708 DADEAC# is 100% correct
