@Mel Wam; having been a fan of Manzanita Speedway and the legendary Windy MacDonald since the 1960's I was devastated when the facility was shuttered never to be raced at again. I too will mourn the loss forever.
I wish I could have been able to see Manzy! I am from Indiana and been east coast to Illinois tracks in between! And I love going to different tracks! Because of the different characteristics of not only the track and the different dirt, clay, Iowa gumbo! And I like the asphalt short tracks as well! But dirt is a special thing, atleast in my word! And Watching this old footage or to me not so long ago times but really is when being a kid seeing these guys do the most amazing things behind the wheel of a machine with so much power and so little weight that! If a sprint car with and or without a wing is a privilege to watch these guy's do what they do! Thanks for the video:)
1973 / I LIVE NYS / WENT TO VISIT BROTHER IN PHOENIX/ WENT TO MANZANITA / GREAT RACE / I THINK CHUCK CIPRICH (CENTRAL NY) WAS THERE / THATS 50 YEARS AGO / NOW I"M NASCAR / SIDE NOTE I AM 76 / MY I"ST LOVE NORTH EAST MODIFIES /TROYER RICHIE BODINES
I got to see Manzanita once, I was with the Brommes and Dino from CRA. I preferred Ascot, it was never as blazing hot as Manzanita. Ascot is gone as well, it seems folks move in next to a track and then complain about the noise.
I. Believe that this was a big opportunity to show the nation for the first time, what a exciting ,thrilling. superior form of auto racing this is...but the subpar lighting and facility really hurt the broadcast..
I will mourn the loss of this track for my entire life
Me too. You could drive, from the Phoenix Metro area, on a Saturday night and for $15 see some excellent racing..

Thanks for posting this.
This must have been a very early appearance of Ralph Sheheen on TNN, as up to this point, he was mainly on ESPN.
It's weird seeing old tv broadcasts of tracks that are not around anymore
Sponsored by products that aren't around either.
Dick Berggren and Doug Wolfgang in the booth? That's different.

Rip manzy
Please tell me you have more of these? My father used to tape these events back then.
Does anybody know if Greg Browns car is Robbie Stanley's old car? It is amazing how much it looks like his own car not the Hoffman car!
Who convince Wolfie to broadcast? Only time I’ve ever seen him do that.
Ben Franklin
