I feel like the practical effects are why a lot of older movies still look pretty good. Newer films tend to just chose to green screen and CGI everything.

And there is someone throwing the stuff over debuty in one take, and then there is the special effect for blowing up the stuff on scene, where visual effect is used to conceal the support and detonator.
One of the biggest goofs in the film: During the chase, earlier on before he says NYPD, he says "LAPD!" At first I thought I was imagining things, but I rewound and checked and was like, holy crap!
