This album was the best selling Live album in history when it came out. The entire performances are epic and totally blew our minds. I saw Peter do a 20 minute version at the L.A. Forum... he did a Piano solo a drum solo and guitar in the same song. it was AWESOME.
@aliasmark69 In 1976 at NWMSU we were treated to Peter Frampton for 25¢ and show your student ID. No one had heard of Frampton so we went crazy, especially when he broke out the throat mic. A show I'll NEVER forget!!!
Seriously, when this came out it was like we ALL came alive. It was kind of mind blowing. One of the few acts that did that to us besides Led Zeppelin.
The guitarist all the greats point to is Jeff Beck. He toyed with the Talk box for a couple songs. He gave it up saying "If you've heard Peter use it, there isn't any need to continue. It's really his. And that's it."
Peter Frampton was co-founder along with another guitarist/vocalist Steve Marriott of his former British rock/blues band 'Humble Pie' back in 1969. Their international hit "I Don't Need No Doctor" performed live at the Fillmore East in N.Y.C. from 1971 was smokin' hot and worth checking out. 🔍Steve belts out this song with all his soul. Besides, the bassline, pounding drums and Peter's guitar playing sink deep down in your soul as well. 💫🎤🎸🥁🔊⚡🔥🎧☮
Snow covers my valley, temperature is 28 degrees, the air is still and quiet. Hit the switch for the 15" JBL speakers outside so it can be heard a mile away..... Spark Up My Pipe. sit back and enjoy this iconic performance. Thanks again
classic. by far his biggest hit. How many of you sat there and listened to this tune over and over trying to figure out what the heck Peter was saying in the voice box part lol....good times.
I assembled the Fender Rhodes Electric Piano used in this song played by Bob Mayo..... Peter Frampton - lead vocals, lead guitar, talk box on "Do You Feel Like We Do" and "Show Me The Way" Bob Mayo - rhythm guitar, piano, Fender Rhodes electric piano, Hammond organ, vocals. Stanley Sheldon - bass, vocals. John Siomos - drums, percussion.
Out of everything Peter has done, including humble pie, this is my favorite from him I love the way it makes me feel and I love where it takes me in my head
I hear this song and I’m immensely transformed back to 1976, Alfred State College, speakers out the windows, frisbee in the quad. He played Rich Stadium in Buffalo that summer. Met my future wife there. 45 years later I owe a lot to Peter Frampton. 😊
The video of the live performance (that is used on this album - which you are now listening to) is otherworldly great. Thanks for reacting to the album version. Which is the same thing taken from that live video. What a great song from a very, very talented man. Can you imagine being 17 and a junior in high school when this came out? It was insane.
When this double live LP landed, it shook the whole world! Everybody, and I mean everybody had this in their collection. Crazy backstory to this legendary release.Frampton had released these songs over a period of years but they never gained traction. So he puts them on this live album and instantly becomes a worldwide superstar.
Peter Frampton was just 25 recording this. Then in 1978 he was in a bad car accident. I think he was getting back into the swing of things when he performed with the Ventures. You might enjoy him performing pipeline with the Ventures. It's what used to be called surf music..I think Max weinhardt is drumming also. If so it's with two drummers. Not taking anything away from Peter Frampton.but... Although for many it was the first time they heard a voice box being used, there was another very popular band that did so earlier. That would be Iron Butterfly. The song is Butterfly Bleu. There is a nice live version with them performing on TV. They went commercial free for 25min to get that song in without interruption if that says anything. Glen Campbell also used one on a variety show before this also. But I can't remember which show and I've never been able to find it. There is a real good old old video from 1944. It is Alvino Rey performing St Louis Blues with stringy the guitar. Alvino Rey give a voice to the puppet using his newly invented voice box. Alvino Rey was the one who worked with Paul Gibson endless Paul and was the one who developed the pickups for the electric guitar. It's history that should not be forgotten and it's worth a watch. If only for yourself. It may surprise you to see just what type advanced Technology existed 90 years ago. 🤠🐂
Growing up in the 70s the must have albums in your LP collection were: Frampton Comes Alive // J. Geils Band - *Full House Live* *Cheap Trick at Budokan* // *The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars* *The White Album* // *Led Zeppelin IV* // Goats Head Soup and *Sticky Fingers*
You must watch the live version (I think midnight special) to understand why these people are going crazy. He is such a great performer And so silly and charming . Unexpected for a prodigy. Just brilliant also wrote a great autobiography. EPIC.
Favorite Rock Guitarist I've seen Live... David Gilmour, Carlos Santana, Eddie Van Halen, Billy Gibbons, Peter Frampton, Eric Clapton, Steve Howe, Kerry Livgren, Joe Walsh, Joe Perry, Steve Stills, Roger Hodgson, John Fogerty, Keith Richards, Pete Townshend and several others. I am happy to say you have seen/heard all of them a few times, I made sure of that. On The House, as usual.
I was lucky to see Frampton in concert with the same line up, and sadly shortly after Bob Mayo died while on tour. Peter use to brag about the continuity of having the same band for years, so this was a big loss. I was in college in '76, and you could hear this album in the dorm coming from many rooms. It was a must have.
Bob Mayo starts his piano solo, Peter watches then walks over sits next to Bob and takes over doing a two minute Piano solo. Bob takes over again, Peter walks over to the drums starts playing in the cymbals. walks around and does a two minute drum solo, then goes back to his guitar and does what he does on guitar. Only time I've ever seen anyone do a solo on three different instruments in one song/performance... Mind Blowing.
Stevie Winwood is a multi-instrumentalist including drums, bass, saxophone, mandolin...I saw him with Blind Faith demonstrating his great keyboard skills on a Hammond B-3 and then proceeding to give Clapton a run for his money on guitar...
The one song that exactly reminds of 1976! Ted Nugent STRANGLEHOLD also though that came out 1975. Some say the best LIVE album ever!!! My favorite is UFO's STANGER IN THE NIGHT!!! Try the song; MOTHER MARY or LIGHTS OUT! It was recorded in Chicago 1978. My other favorite is Judas Priest,, UNLEASHED IN THE EAST! Try the song ; DIAMONDS AND RUST or VICTIM OF CHANGES!! Great Reaction JM! First time visiting. Might check out your channel and see what else you got! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼🎄PS. I recommend the exact audio of these albums. Unmatched by others by them.
I’ve seen several different versions of the lyrics in the third verse. One version is “Champagne for breakfast and a sherman in my hand White top, White tails, never fails Must have been a dream. I don't believe where I've been Come on - let's do it again” Which sounds like he’s referring to be dressed up, as in wearing white tails, a style of tuxedo. Another version says it’s “Champagne for breakfast and a Sherman in my hand Peached up, peached ale, never fails Must have been a dream I don't believe where I've been Come on, let's do it again” The Urban Dictionary says “peached up” means “peached (of a task requiring little skill) carried out badly, carelessly or just plain sloppy.” Peached ale? No one seems to know exactly what that means, but using the definition of peached up, maybe it means ale made carelessly? BTW Sherman’s are a premium brand of cigarettes from the 1960’s-70’s. You had to go to a smoke shop to find them, they weren’t sold in vending machines, convenience or other similar stores.
HEY Folks.... JM did the Midnight Special Live version months ago.... See It in his Playlist. I wanted him to hear what blew all our minds when this album hit the world.
Bought this album(8-track)form when it came out, I was a teenager then and of course spent more time in my car with the girlfriend and cruising around town!

React to the live video version, you'll get just as many , if not more . views...and it's just as good as this live concert, but seeing it being performed is just a cut above.
In so glad you chose the studio, and not the video. The video is ok, but it gives way too much time to the keyboard... makes me angry... lots of reactors are confused about who Frampton is after that... and this is by far the best version of this song...Great reaction. Thank you. 😊
Unfortunately, Peter stopped playing because of physical ailment. Inclusion body myositis is a degenerative muscle disease. He was in the group Humble Pie before going solo.

You definitely chose the correct version to react to. The "Midnight Special" version is good, but this is the best in my opinion. Thanks!
