  • Star Fox Adventures is a game with a peculiar history... but we're not talking about that today. Rare's expedition into the Lylat System is a controversial action-adventure joyride littered with mysterious threads of lore and unexplained mysteries.
One of those mysteries is an absolutely terrifying enemy called the "brain squid". But what are they really? The game never explains and this dragon thinks she's maybe come up with an answer.

I’m kind of a newcomer to Star Fox lore, but this sounds really interesting! Would love to see more stuff like this as I dive further into the series myself

Refrain from touching the brain squids? But they look fun to squish!

A very interesting theory! I can’t say I’m all that knowledgeable about this lore, but with all the information you’ve provided something that jumped out at me is that perhaps Andros himself is one of the corrupted Krazoa. The brain motif fits and it would explain how he knew about Dinosaur Planet.

Thank you for the video and the theory, Amalia!
I will admit that I do NOT know Star Fox lore too too much. I did like playing the OG SNES version and have played Star Fox 64 (still have not beaten the true ending.... got clapped by upgraded Wolf & Co.); that's about my extent with the series.
It's certainly plausible and makes sense about where your Brain Squids come from/ origin. I'm wondering how much changed with the addition of the Star Fox set-pieces vs OG Dinosaur Planet.
    Thank you again!

I always assumed that the Brain Squids were originally creations of the Krazoa themselves, and that explains why they can only be found in Krazoa Palace. They were likely made to patrol places once occupied by the Krazoa and guard their territory from intruders.
Speaking of the Krazoa themselves, they were also mentioned to be creators of life, so maybe they were portrayed as this advanced civilization of god-like beings that still have a fondness to all forms of life despite having done some terrible things before. At the time of Adventures, the Krazoa were either already extinct or they still exist in some form or another.

Unless you explained it in a different way I was too dumb to register, I imagine Scales having a Krazoa was insurance if anyone returned the Spellstones that way the planet couldn't be put together and they'd have to kill Scales in order to get the last spirit from him in order to restore the planet, so he'd always have some sort of back up.
As for the Krazoa themselves I imagine the spirits were potrayed as gods with a civilization that had likeness' to them or they were a race that eventually went extinct and I imagine they're the ones who got the utilization of The Warp Stone since it had to be there to do something since it cant warp dinosaurs, probably getting tribute or "gifts" as it mentions in the beginning and now Im going off on my own unrelated tangent.
Imma call it though, Imma say brain squids are Krazoa fetus' corrupted by Andross as another theory

The only Star Fox game I played was on the DS (yo ho ho) and only a bit, got bored and booted another one. So yeah, can't have an opinion on this.
