Something to consider is that StarFox Adventures English version and Japanese version are different. While the Japanese version is just the English version dub, the Japanese sub has a lot of changes. For one Krystals planet of Cerinia straight up doesn't exist. If you ask a Japanese fan about Cerinia they would have no clue what your talking about. Also any moments that hint at Andross being responsible for the destruction of Cerinia straight up doesn't get subtitles. The "It's you!" line for instance doesn't have subtitles. Krystals back story in the JP version of Adventures just has her being a random blue Fox that receives a distress signal and responds do to being a kind individual. The English version and the Japanese versions were unfortunately not on the same page as Rare made the Cerinia back story but Imamura just reimagined her character to be basically random and thus boring. Even worse is that his version of the character showed its head in Star Fox Command, unfiltered by a 3rd writer with the acception of a horrible localization. Imamura down graded Krystal to a one note character and explains why Krystal who got her planet blown up by Andross would ever defend his actiond in StarFox Command because she wouldn't unless Cerinia wasn't a thing. Disclaimer: I am also not target audience and have never played Minecraft ever. I think with Minecraft as a more world-builder do your own thing, you may have to go Isekai (although yes... it is an overused trope). It feels like with Jack Black popping up with the "I'm Steve", we could go the OG Jumanji route where he's been in the game world for years waiting for somebody else to play and release him and here's everybody else now. Visuals are mostly fine for me (the ruminant animals do look weird). Not sure how I feel about the blocky world and... here's your random assortment of regular people that are going to be heroes.

You absolutely hit the nail on the head when it comes to why there are so many video game isekais. Producers have admitted to as much, they want to introduce your "average person" to this strange land so even people who don't understand the game world have something to relate to. This made more sense in the 80s and 90s when Video Games were new and parents were taking their kids to a movie that made little sense to them. But like, 3 things here, Minecraft is literally the best selling game of all time, many parents taking their kids most likely have played or at least understand Minecraft, and gaming isn't this niche thing anymore! (or a young person thing either!) As far as the graphical style is concerned, I think they could have gone with a style similar to Tell-Tale's Minecraft Story Mode, but I think it wouldn't be taken seriously as a big movie release if that were the case. It's a really tough line to draw. Wow I had way more to say about this than I thought I would.... in all honesty I don't even think I'll go see it, but boy do I have some opinions!

Overall, this LOOKS like a parody film made to make fun of Minecraft fans. That’s the vibe it’s giving me.

I think the most egregious thing is Steve, literally FROM Minecraft, is not a block person. It’s a bad call. I’m almost positive they went for live action because they got big names like Jack Black and Jason Momoa, even tho Jack did great as a VA in the Mario Movie

My hot take is I think the animals are fine for a live action minecraft movie. They're ugly sure but I dont think its terrible. My whole thing for the teaser is "What did you expect?" Cause I legitimately don't know what anyone could have expected from a Minecraft movie that didn't borros properties from spin offs like Telltales Minecraft stofy for example. Even now with the teaser I have no expectations for it. At most its jist generic. That said Im definitely not a target audience myself cause I know very little about Minecraft

Interesting take on BOTW (though one I can def understand and will have to ponder), and BOTW vs. TOTK (I beat TOTK yesterday and still have thoughts bouncing around. IMO: some things were awesome, but a lot seemed half baked. I think BOTW was the tighter and better thought out game). Did you like Kass as an NPC? why/why not? (I loved him, but his characterization isn’t terribly deep either) For Hyrule Warriors Calamity: your opinion’s fair, but there’s no way they’d release a game that railroaded the player into a tragic ending, in a (pre)story already (well) told in a different game…. inserting folks into the BOTW back story, with the inevitable goal of defeating ganon before the calamity, I think is the only way you can do a prequel game. That said, it probably would have done better on like an RTS w/champions game instead of Dynasty warriors. Finally, thanks for the rec for Okami. It’s half off now so I got it (though I just did BOTW and TOTK back to back over 500+ hours and I want to do something completely different for now). The reviews look great and it looks intriguing - especially since I’m familiar with the legend (even visited her shrine at Ise Japan lol)
