I ordered a 50th anniversary T/A with a 400/auto new in early 1976 waited forever for the car. Heard from the dealer the T-Tops were on hold and GM would only release about 600 cars to have T-Tops. Got the number of a GM Rep and asked for my VIN to have T-Tops, he said no problem. Then waited even longer. Finally I got tired of waited and ordered and received a new Corvette but kept the T/A order open because my bother was interested in the car. He ended up taking delivery in August of 1976 and took the car to Dallas where about a year after it was stolen and never recovered.
@@davebarron5939 Hal Needham, the stuntman and director responsible for Smokey and the Bandit, said the inspiration for the movie came in part when he saw the 1976 50th Anniversary Trans Am on a magazine cover. 😀
I had a chance to buy a 1976 Pontiac Trans Am 50 th Anniversary edition 400 auto car. This was in 1985. It was really rough. Been rode hard and put up wet. The guy wanted 2k for it. It ran decent and drove like a rattle trap. But it was all there. Rough paint and dents. Doors sagged pretty bad. Had to lift the doors up a bit to shut them. None T top car. Needless to say I passed on it. Needed more than I could afford at the time. I ended up a few years later buying a 1979 TA 400, 4 speed W72 package. Nocturne blue for 1000 bucks. Original PWH 400 with a spun rod bearing. It was all there. Way better shape than the 76 TA I looked at years ago. Restored the car and rebuilt the engine. Kept it for 17 yrs then sold it. The 76 455 TA 50th anniversary you picked up is sweet. Beautiful car no doubt. Glad it’s in good hands now.
I bought one in 1992 at the Bear County auction (TX). 455 4speed no T tops, Red deluxe interior. At the time I had no clue what it was. Just I got it cheap, and it was cool. Car was totaled in Nashville Tn by the man I sold it to, that was around 1995.
In 1999 in a private junk yard in Dallas, GA filled with Pontiacs, there was a 1976 50th Trans Am that had been gutted and turned into a drag car at one point in its life, but it sat there in that junkyard just the body, no engine, no interior but the vin plate was still there so i broke out my book and was shocked to see a car that important in that condition.
Although the front sections on laters models could’ve left this one looking plain, its side front profile is definitely the meaner! with the rear tail lights possibly setting the standard across the entire range.. After being beside one of these (in traffic) from a high sitting position, I’d say they do have a luxury car element that I believe needs to be homed into and optimised! The consistency of steel fabrication and dynamic design is certainly there! 🎉
Bad ass T/A with all the options, the father of the Bandit! That should be worth a ton of bux when finished, how many were fully loaded when new? I remember seeing Bandit drive his off the back of the rig when I was 12 living in Jonesboro Georgia & got to see him again at the 40th anniversary of SATB in 2017 the year before he passed ✌💖☮
You got a new sub Villisca is my home town that car is a beast I've drove past it plenty of times and was just amazed by it Derek is a super cool guy I've had him do some work for me years ago one of the best body men I know he collects cars I collect tools lol and I restore vintage tools I find so I understand the passion
Hi, quick question. At one part of the video you asked about the mileage. I noticed that it had a 160mph speedometer. I thought 74 was the last year for 160mph speedometer. Was the speedometer wrong for the car? Just curious because a lot of people switch out for the 160mph speedometer and it ruins the mileage on the car. Thanks
You’re right. 1974 was the last year for the 160 mph speedometer on Firebirds. 75-79 had 100mph and then 80-81 had 85 mph so who knows how many miles that TA has. But it’s getting restored so it really doesn’t matter at this point. It’s cool that it still has the original 455. Especially with 4-speed cars , people blew them up over revving them big motors. Definitely a cool 😎 TA!!
My father bought a new 77 black bandit TA. He ordered it before the movie came out. Afterwards I think he was embarrassed by the whole thing and hardly ever drove it. The t tops were stolen in Venice beach cal around 82 or 83. Funny thing is one of them had a crack in the glass from new. Could still be out there somewhere.
I know where one is sitting in central Texas under a tree. It was the guys high school car and he says that now that his kids graduated, he can finally get it back out and restore it.
The 1976 Pontiac Trans Am 50th Anniversary was produced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Pontiac brand. When was Pontiac Started: Pontiac was established in 1926 as a brand of General Motors (GM)
It has 132 thousand miles on it, can tell from the outside wear points,it probibly was an every day driver for a decade. The newer version early 80"S.the wide fiberglass ex was much better. In lots of ways.
Shame Pontiac is gone, always loved the Camaro too but just always something special anout the Firebird, especially the ride and interior, the car just felt more solidly built.
50th anniversary of what because it sure as hell ain't the car. Trans Am has never made it to 50 years of production. 1969 was the first year for a Trans Am
I had a 1975 Trans Am when I was in High School. A lot of good times were had in that car.
I bought one in 76 400, 4 sp.
Hurst hatch only 50 made to celebrate 50 yrs of Pontiac. Still have it

That’s impossible..the Pontiac firebird came out in 1967 so how can you order a 50 th anniversary in 1976….what a load of crap
@@Goran2551it was the 50th anniversary of Pontiac not the Firebird, 1926-1976.
@@StupidFastTruck …sorry you said Pontiac T/A not Pontiac..yes the Pontiac dud come out 9n 1926..I gad a friend who had a 1952/3 Pontiac chief
@ fair enough …Pontiac …Trans am …Firebird..etc..it’s still a Pontiac …my Fourier two 1979…or a 1987 GTA
I had a 1976 Trans am. Sold it for 600, running and rust free.
Wow, great find lots of rare options and I did not know they made a "50th" anniversary car. Look forward to updates on this. Thanks.

Is the junkyard still there? I'm in Georgia.

Like parking this and a jaguar of the same era side by side to see if we can home onto what makes each other what it is!

Loved the '76, until too many tickets, then went to to '80 Firebird. Was great in high school, too bad totaled.😢

Don't ever believe the odometer reading on an almost 50 year old car.

I have acquired a 1976 50th anniversary edition bandit trans am with the 400 auto non t top, for a customer
Had a chance to buy one of these with the 455 and four speed fresh out of high school in 1981. My Pop would not allow it.
Looking for one of these, but a black deluxe interior non t top 4 speed 455 50th.
Think we had one a while back

Obviously the Pontiac motors brand as it started in 1926
