as an Indian living in canada, every time I meet a bangladeshi person, I am absolutely moved and touched by their sweet nature, helpful attitude and hard working approach. whether its an uber driver, a nurse, a shopkeeper, or a friend's friend, each of the bangladeshis I have met are wonderful people. I have a soft spot for them as a result of my interactions.
Yes go to Bangladesh and the will give you the same sweet treatments the are giving to their Hindu minority. Subban Allah.

Whenever I see them I shake hands with them. Ask about Their well being. And they also do the same. We have fun together and gossip about various topics but never disrespect each others religion.
Whether it is a hindu torturing muslims in india or a muslim torturing hindu in Bangladesh, there is definitely a lack of education.
So let the educated people bring peace and harmony Between the two communities. And not blame each others whole community for the misdeed of uneducated people.

After independence of Bangladesh in 1974 Hindu population percentage was 13.50% (Source: Bangladesh Govt. Census 1974-2022).
According to 2022 Census Hindu population percentage in Bangladesh is 7.95%.
Within the time of 48 years Hindu population percentage reduced by 5.55%. This is happened because of higher birth rate among Muslim community. Also same thing is happening in India, Muslim population percentage is increasing due to higher birth rate. Beside this lot of educated and financially stablished Hindu families are migrating to western world for better living standard.
As an Indian i have lived in BD working with Brac & Unicef for like 2 years. My only problem with this interview is that She is comparing Karachi to Dhaka which is incorrect ' U dont compare Countries based on 2 cities . BD has many more big cities like Chittagong, Sylhet, Khulna which are in my opinion far better places to live than Dhaka. Dhaka is The most populated city in the world & its environment is like Delhi, Polluted. So Dhaka is the worst representation of Bangladesh Just like Delhi is of India. If u are visiting BD go outside Dhaka & u will find beauty of bangladesh. I doubt this lady even went Outside Dhaka that much as the video is all about Dhaka life. Their other cities also have good facilities but they are much much better, calm & clean than Dhaka.
From my experience - If you go to Rural areas You would Find More Woman working than in tier 1 cities like Dhaka. Most of the product industries are set up outside main city so there are more labor jobs in RMG which is BD main Industry ) is not in central Dhaka. One thing i noticed is that Women ratio is much lower in Corporate & govt jobs . What surprised me when i visited some medical colleges is that there are like 60% female students in Health education industry & if you go to any medical college u would find atleast 50% female teachers . Although theres very few established Woman doctors compared to Man . I think many girls dont get into Medical professionally after MBBS/ BDS graduation . Thats a point they can improve . I think another reason is that Many girls just go into teaching in colleges rather than doing medical practice. I felt that Women are more in Education/ RMG labor sector than corporate 9-5 Jobs there.
Education - Education there is divided based on Cities & is very centralized. You would find majority of top Institutions inside Dhaka. i have to give credit that BD has done good job in Primary education but in terms of higher education their Universities lack behind. So if you want Higher degree in university ( not medical ) u should prefer other places. BD Pak both are miles behind Indian IITS & IIMS . But their Primary education plan since independence is very impressive & their work in female education. Yes they dont focus on English language that much as We indians do ( dont know about pak) . But i dont agree that they dont write Bengali well. This is false information. Yes they do well in acceptable bengali writing skill ( i said acceptable not perfect cuz even many linguists cant write perfectly in proper way) . I hope they keep their focus on Modern education.
Health Education Sector - But As my work was mostly on health sector i can guarantee the Medical Education in Bangladesh is Much better than most other SE countries specially for foreign students .BD Medical MCI & FMGE is most time in top 2 around the world. ( even better that Ukraine, Russia ,China). So if you are used to this subcontinent culture & want to study Medical in foreign Country BD is one of the best places in ASIA.
Safety - Safety in BD is similar to India. i cant tell about Pakistan .Safety in Dhaka is lower than other towns. But dont worry people there are very hospitable so u would be fine. i am not touching political stuffs between countries. thats not my sector.

Don't start your visit to Bangladesh with Dhaka; it is very centralized, therefore you will face traffic jams and other hustles. Start your visit in Rajshahi, Sylhet, or Chittagong. Take love from 🇧🇩. And almost 85% of the people here can understand Urdu and Hindi because we watch a lot of Bollywood movies and Urdu is almost similar to Hindi.

My family roots are originally from Chittagong district, now in Bangladesh and it was my grandparents generation who had to bear the brunt of partition, having fled East Pakistan in1947, rebuilding their lives as refugees in the ghettos of Calcutta , West Bengal . Over the years i have met a lot of Bangladeshi men and women and have always considered them as one of us as I am used to their Baangal Bhasha being spoken at home by my grand parents, we share the same food habits, music, dance, literature and history, . As an Indian , we consider Bangladesh as a stable and friendly neighbour with whom we share a lot of common interest including the Nobel Laurette poet and composer of our national anthems.
Meeting an Indian Bengali has some great feeling especially by the bond of the language. We know we are different yet language makes us connected

As a 60 years old, I feel more at home with my Bengali neighbours compared to a fellow Indian from Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Bihar or J&K because I can’t speak their language and if they can’t speak English or Hindi then it’s down to sign language, their food habits are very different to mine, their culture , their local habits is very different to mine however the great thing here is that we all feel connected as Indians, we will all support our national cricket team with equal passion, we all feel proud to see the entire world abuzz with the Chandrayaan 3 lunar mission , at the same time we all feel ashamed when the world takes notice of atrocities against women in the border state of Manipur. Our national identity serves as a glue, binding people together, in such a diverse country like India, however when it comes to our eastern neighbours, believe there is much more in common than we think there is, especially amongst the youth who never experienced history the way we did. As a son of the same soil , there is love of the land… I still remember the
fondness with which my grandparents would narrate stories of their village, their basha , their pukur, the greenery, the rice fields, the vegetable garden in the back yard, the pathshala, the haater bazaar, etc … besides sharing the birthplace of our fore fathers, our food bonds us together … it’s the same fish cooked in the same way, therefore whether it’s the mourala bhaja or parshey's jhol with kalo jeere or rui maacher Kalai or doi maach or tele koi … we all look forward for the same season time for eelish … it’s always the whole fish cooked , with teler bora, eelish maach Bhaja , macher Muro diye daal, and the peti eelish Bhape shorshe Bata … kochhoper mangshoe is still a delicacy . the same kochu Bata, kolmi shak, lal shak with kashondi, mochar ghonto, kumro phool bashon bhaja… the beler sharbot and Notun gurer shondesh. After food, we share the same literature … it’s kobi guru , robindro sangeet. Kaji Nozrul Islam & Nozrul giti, it’s the same poila boishak, the beautiful Bengali women in their laal parer Shari . It’s the same Dhakai saree or Jamdani Silk saree, the Bengali panjabi with set of buttons offset on the right side, the same style of putting on a dhuti, the same love and passion for football and adda. I could go on and on but there is much much more that binds us than separates us . We need the younger generation to interact and visit each other more often as they need to feel this cultural depth which will wash away any apprehensions or misunderstandings.

Imagine living in Karachi's Cliffton for a year and passing judgment (positive) on entire Pakistan.
I was amused to see her as a guest for a podcast to describe about Bangladesh. Its evident she has no geographic, social or economic knowledge of Bangladesh. She has just talked about a specific area of Dhaka city. However she hasn't visited any factory yet where she could have seen how many women are working in our country.Finally i want to request the lady to refrain herself from such appearence untill she acquires detail knowledge about Bangladesh.
Totally agree … she is typical Pakistani who has kuey (well) ka medak mentality. She thinks she knows the best and is nice to everyone but is parochial in nature. She even made sexist comments on women and I am sure she doesn’t even realize that.

Bangladesh is million miles ahead of Pakistan whom obtained freedom in 1947 while Bangladesh became free in 1971. I have never been to Pakistan and dont care visiting it. But definitely want to visit Bangladesh as I only hear marvelous stories about it.

5. What Bangladeshi's mind about Pakistani: She is 100% right. We can not trust from the core of our heart but we behave well.
6. Drama: no idea
7. Pakistani living in Bangladesh: I did not know too many Pakistani are working in Bangladesh.
8. About women workforce: This is the scenario of her office. I think in the whole country, women are working everywhere and the % is higher than India or Pakistan.
I wanted to hear more from her....

2. Festival participation and what's her experience
3. Travel experience in tourist places

We love to entertain people from different countries... There are a lots of indian chinese,japanese,korean and african people living in bangladesh... And we accept them from our heart...
Traffic jam is improving and within next 5 years there will be no traffic jam in dhaka... But I have a complain Against some indian and pakistani people who are living in Bangladesh and doing illegal work... Such as some of them are involved in drug business,human trafficking,gambling etc... We are friendly people but pls don't do anything which will spoil our friendly attitude towards foreigners... 😊

What she said about not being harrassed at Bangladesh's road is true. I don't live in Dhaka,I live in Chittagong, the second largest city in Bangladesh. I have been living here for about 20 years. Yes, sometimes I was stared but never was grabbed or touched inappropriately. I am sure most women would say the same. Women empowerment is really prominent everywhere from bottom to top level. Maternity leave has good benefit and almost 50% high rank government officials (BCS) are females. Childhood marriages have been declining, honour killing is not remotely an issue here like in Pakistan and most women pursue a career after completing their education from universities.

100% right. It’s the Pakistanis that don’t want to agree to Bangladesh’s facts. They take it very lightly. It took them so many years to learn it was their fault.
Interesting comparison regarding safety & sexual harassment of women. Bangladesh is far ahead due to its education and respect of women, whereas in Pakistan, it’s decades behind and very dangerous for women. Both are Muslim and had shared Pakistan names but the mentality of Pakistani men is something very wrong.

The biggest difference is Bangladesh does not have a maximalist view and an unrealistic hegemonic position of Muslims in the Indian sub-continent!! And they have a secularism article in their constitution. In 5 years Bangladesh will have double the per capita income of Pakistan. So sad!!

There is a misleading information that schools don’t taught Bangla and English well. It’s not like that, we don’t have that much English medium schools compared to Bangla, because our government gives emphasis on Bangla. And the sister told that the people can’t speak Bengali properly the thing is seriously funny. Actually local people feel comfort to speak Bengali in their local accent. And if you visit any civil offices you’ll find the pure Bengali accent compared to talking to locals. After all this was a nice video, I do appreciate.

I totally agree with her. Many of us has grownup with Hindi shows and Hindi- Bangla has similarities. So after sometimes we understand Hindi kinda properly.
As Hindi - Urdu has similarities, we also understand Urdu.
So if we talk with any Indian or Pakistani, we mainly use hindi to talk with that person.

About the infrastructure bit, Bangladesh's focus has been on rural development which is why urban infrastructure has lagged behind, however, there are some major constructions going on at present. Bangladesh, though, is ahead of both India and Pakistan in overall human development.
On education, agreed, Bangladeshi students in general are weak in language but I think we are much better at mathematics and sciences. That's probably due to the method of teaching in different subjects.

Pakistan should unconditionally apologise to Bangladesh both from Pakistan government and Pakistan army. And also give war reparation. There was a genocide and ethnic cleansing. Pakistan should admit it. Follow the path of Germany, Japan in WW2. If Pakistan want to prosper and move ahead it should have an introspection. Pakistan should teach their children the atrocities made by the Pak army in 1971. This kind of thing is taught in Germany and Japan. Germany has given war reparations till 90's. And look at them and look at Pakistan. Repentance is essential to move ahead.

Bangladesh has about $240 billion worth of ongoing Infrastructure development. Many have been already completed such as Dhaka Metro Rail, Dhaka Flyover Highway, etc. In 10 years when all these projects are completed, Bangladesh will be a different country in terms of infrastructure. The Padma bridge is completed. Now, there is a plan to develop a second Padma bridge.

Heyyyy I was watching from Bangladesh and it was lovely to see our country from a Pakistani's pov. But there are such things i disagreed with her like learning english,women working in industries . ok so we Bangladeshis give a lot of importance to English and we try our best to learn it and we emphasize on it more than bangla which is weird cause we have great passion about our language also. But as a normal citizen I would say that we are good at it . plus women working in the industries are insane,you can just find them in huge lines at 6 am and again at 5 pm , there are mostly women who are working. Maybe because she doesn't work in the field she isn't encountered with them a lot, but from my pov I see a lot of women everywhere as a person who have been to other countries. also i think we shouldn't hold grudges to normal people of Pakistan and we try to but the things are very complicated as some stories are entitled with us which are very brutal and hard to forget.Lastly we would love to see you here in our lovely country and you are most welcome here. I am Bangladeshi,living in Chittagong, port city of Bangladesh. What she says about wearing western yet nobody stares,which is a rare case in Bangladesh I would say. It depends on the area. In Chittagong, women go street all covered up. So,this is not even a common scene here.
And one thing,Pakistani clothing are very famous here. Tons of salwar kameez collection are available in every market. As a Bangladeshi,I think we India, Pakistan, Bangladesh should increase trades and economic opportunities for our betterment. As we should always remember it is British we divided us and made us distant and bitter towards each other.

Even though more people lived in East Pakistan and most of the export earning were made from East Pakistan, 78% of the spending was made in West Pakistan. Islamabad was built using the wealth from East Pakistan.
Middle class is a wide spectrum in our region! For us, how many poeple came out of poverty is what really matters, which indicates employment & stable society.
Bangladesh has rapid growth & stands at 20% poverty, with current growth it will be single digit at the end of decade.
Where Pakistan stands at 39% poverty & expected rate is 35% at end of decade but with current birth rate it is also very alarming coz it is expected to push 10M under poverty line.
I am no hater, I am into statistics.
No doubt Bangladesh is developing and Pakistan is in crisis right now but brother only a person who has lived in both the counties is illegible of comparing.

I lived in Dhakka for one year. Overall it is hardworking and peaceful ppl. You will not find beggers there on streets. In whole year I just saw one begger but he was just sitting on cloth with a bowl Infront and head down. Not like our beggers, grasping and tracing us jesay hum nay onka udhaar dena ho.
Morally, Bangladeshi ppl are very strong, I noticed that out side college gate if lot of student girls are coming out, noone will even stare at them. I remember that pakistani captain with Rajakar came to my village and found me only at home. some of the rajakars are local bihari, worked for my father as darwan and labors. The captian hit me with the rifle butt and showed me bullet cocking the magazin and tied my hands behind and took me away about 500-700m and some local muslim league dalal fear of retribution at night, he convince Pakistan Captian that release me and I was only 13 years old. In my mother house where my father was hiding there. suddenly attack that area and arrested my father, but they did not know that my father was a vice president of Awami League and blaming him a East Bengal rifle border Guard and cheched his finger and elbo and suddenly a Jamaati who spoke urdu know my father and he convinced the pakistani army that he is just a guest here and visiting relative. They beated my dad so bad that he has to transfer to India via the Boira sector of west Bengal to Bongaon and he stayed in hospital for a month and recovered there. Pakistani animals wouned him badly. although I met some Pakistani in London, In Canada and they are good people and born after the war. 2 brothers from Karachi(originally from India-mohazir) hated punjabis and left Pakistan and settle down in Montreal. The younger was a journalist and he had problem with the army and police of Pakistan.
Uncle according to these people our government exaggerated what happened in 1971. They will probably claim you did the same.

I think the guest misinterpreted one thing on textile industry of Bangladesh. Maybe there are less number of women working in the design studio of brands or garments factories. But in the garment factories, 98% of the workers are women! Maybe the guest didn't experience it in the root level as she mentioned she works in Gulshan, Dhaka! But the main garments industries are mainly based in Chattogram. I believe, she will explore more by time and get to know more.

25:55 She's only mentioning one or two sectors, one of which is a clothing store! You can't tell how many women work just by living in a posh neighbourhood. If she went outside the posh area in the morning, she could see how many women were going to work (mostly, at the garments).

I'm sorry to hear about the lady's experience of the visa system in BD. It is a joke, an absolute joke. I remember travelling to BD with a colleague. He was British Pakistani but even he was being harrased and messed about at the airport before eventually after 3 hours we got his (voa) visa-on-arrival. I can only imagine the hardship this lady endured waiting 6 months for a work visa. The truth is anything related to Pakistan, the authorities will move at snails pace on purpose. I'm certain it;s govt policy.
I agree about education in BD being very below par, the govt does'nt invest enough in that sector. It's very substandard unless you go to a private school. There is no over-seeing body to monitor the quality of teaching that I am aware of.
There are some major road develpment projects taking place in BD as we speak. Plenty of youtube channels like Evolution of Bangladesh etc that are monitoring development. I envisage BD having some of the best highways in South Asia. Local roads will always remain pot holed, rutted and dagerous... That I gurantee. Lol.

This is the 1st podcast of yours which I heard completely as I was curious to know about Bangladesh . A country which India helped to gain independence from Pakistan . Ms Kehkashan spoke on a lot of things as the comparison was between Pak & Bangla . So she gave good insights . 1 thing I disagreed - About Working Women in Bangladesh , Women in Bangladesh work a lot . They are very hard working & ambitious and the new generations are no doubt well ahead of Boys . May be she has been working in a different sector , she hasn`t noticed it . Which is OK . 2nd thing - She said about the education level . I may agree and disagree to her points . Bangladeshis are giving a lot of importance in learning english ,particularly the middle class & upper middle class . You see a lot of bangla people in Europe - Spain , France , Italy etc . Only problem of them is they are Shy , Only perfer to stay with their group of people . Don`t mix up quickly . Take a lot of time . Bangladeshis who are reading my comment , Do reply if I am wrong in my observation .
Over All Great Interview . Ms Kehkashan must have gone in shock after returning to Pak and seeing the deterioting situation of Pakistan with Inflation sky rocketing . Tough Days for Poor People of Pakistan .
There are a number of things to understand about Bangladesh first:
1. Bangladeshis are very liberal and secular, even though some want to portray Bangladesh as being fundamentalist. Even the ones who are religious (Muslim, Hindu or Christian) will never ask you if your this religion or that but rather will want to know what part of Bangladesh you are from.
2. Women are extremely well integrated into the workforce. In the service industries, banking, public sector, middle management, and in upper management apart from the RMG sector. The only area where fewer then expected women, are in traditional areas like construction, building, defence etc.
3. Knowledge in English language was neglected badly during the 70s to the early 2000's as the government deliberately pushed for a Bangla medium and tried to side-line English as a second language. This was a big mistake, and caused major economic lose (india managed to capture huge IT and other back office services market because of their language, and management skills), now we are having to play catch-up on this.
4. Bangladeshis are brought up to be polite and reserved, this will come out to seem that we are shy. Bangladeshis who can be found in Europe or the States, generally do tend to stick together like most other early immigrants do, it will take a couple of generation for them to feel comfortable to venture away and integrate. This is more so for immigrants from outside metropolitan areas, then those from metro's that go abroad.
5. The Bangladesh economy is growing fast (expected to be $1trn by 2030) and the number of middle class is expanding fast too, this is causing a huge demographic change to the country, with people moving into metropolitan cities faster then the cities infrastructure can cope, not enough roads for ever expanding cars (even with 100%-500% tax on cars), lack of housing, public transport, sanitation, etc.
6. The biggest problem Bangladesh will face is with the growth we will come under the spotlight of the great powers and no longer slip under the radar. Avoiding the great power game is a must if we want to keep growing.
Actually our education standards are low. It's a fact. Subject and curriculum are all modern but teaching standards are low because of nepotism and after-school coaching culture. Most teachers do private coaching. If parents can't afford to pay for private coaching their kids are not taught properly in school. In university its a different problem. There's no coaching but curriculum is very outdated and again teaching quality is poor. I have tried to hire BBA and MBA grads and they were no better than high school grads. You can hire an accountanting student and he doesn't know how to write a balance sheet without copying from a sample.
I am a Bangladeshi living in Australia. The discussion was very good. Yes, most of the Bangladeshi people are understand Hindi and Urdhu. Myself love to watch Hindi movies. The fact is, in garment sector more that 80% factory workers are women. But higher positions, man are mejority.

Not everything said about Bangladesh is true. The roads are not wide enough its true but Most roads in dhaka is widening with flyovers being built. Drainage system also in the process of improvements. But many things she said is right.

I agree with the guest regarding Dhaka’s road being narrow. I guess whoever planned it didn’t think about future much. I suggest the lady to visit Purbachol. It was planned better compared to other parts of Dhaka. I think at the time when Bangladesh economy’ll hit trillion dollars mark Purbachol will become centre of Dhaka.
I also agree with the guest on Bangladesh not having any internationally recognised clothing brand. This is really weird. We had brand like Moslin with 1000 years of history. Our entrepreneurs failed to revive it or create a new international brand.

I don’t agree with the women workforce point. I’m a Bangladeshi living in NY, and women dominate in schools, colleges and Universities. There are way more women teachers and lecturers in educational institutions in BD. Textile is dominated by women. There are many women workers in Bank also. And BD women are more educated than men.

Traffic conditions have changed for better in Dhaka due to new flyover recently opened and Padma Bridge opened a year ago has made journeys faster and safer between cities within country!
If your forefathers led by Quid have not geographically trifurcated the region, you would be having a direct train to Dhaka from Karachi. Hope your future generation realises this and works to amend the past mistakes that has harmed this region. Rest is on Destiny.

From the inception of Pakistan, Bengalis of East Pakistan had faced discrimination. Islam teaches the equality among all human beings as well as fraternity and sorority among all Muslims. We, Bengalis, despite being the majority of the population of Pakistan as well as despite being a Muslim majority, were neither being treated as brothers/sisters nor being treated as equal. West Pakistan used to look down upon Bengalis because of our darker skin tone. Bengalis were NOT given equal opportunity to good education and respectable jobs, despite having intelligence and talents. Furthermore, resources of East Pakistan were being used for the development of West Pakistan and our people used to starve. On 1970, a cyclone hit in the coastal areas of East Pakistan, causing a lot of casualties. Pakistan Government didn’t bother. That’s the time we’ve realized that we need a leader from our own community. In the beginning of 1971, there was an election and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman won the maximum votes. West Pakistan couldn’t digest the fact that a Bengali (someone from an inferior race) would rule them. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was arrested, but was released later. On that moment, the whole Bengali nation felt the need of becoming an independent nation. So the war began. From the night of March 25, 1971, Yahya Khan and Tikka Khan pounced upon unarmed Bengalis in the name of “Operation Searchlight” and started killing our innocent people as well as picking up our women for rape. During those days, Pakistan Army proudly declared in the newspaper, “We will leave a nation of bastards and idiots.” About three million (3,000,000) Bengalis were being killed mercilessly (including our bright professionals) and two lakh (200,000) Bengali women were being raped repeatedly in the concentration camp by Pakistan Army and their local collaborators (Razakars). Women, who were being raped, got pregnant. Many women terminated their pregnancy. Those who couldn’t, delivered babies and abandoned them. These abandoned kids were given away for the adoption. Most of those babies were adopted by foreigners and were taken away to foreign countries. Others were adopted by our local people.
