Hell no to Ekblad, that contract is going to age horribly in 2-4 years when the Sharks will actually begin to be contenders and that is exactly when we are going to wish he was off the team at that age. Ekblad’s body is breaking down hard pass from me. You said it yourself, look for complimentary pieces this offseason that would sign in the 1-3 year range and if you are going to hand out a 5-7 year+ contract it better be for someone that is around 25 years or younger which matches our timeline WAY better than someone at Ekblad’s age. If you want a big fish defenceman that fits our timeline it’s going to be through trade, and should be someone like Dobson/Power/Harley etc but it will cost a lot
Banger as always and thanks for taking my question on the deathloop! Follow up question, with the "going for it" in mind but also not wanting to sink yourself on a huge contract for an older player, what about going offersheet route on a Bouchard, Byram, Dobson? If we are aiming to be a contending team in the next few years, then those draft picks become a lower premium for a defender who will be in their prime during the new window.
Schaefer or Martone, I’m guessing if he doesn’t land any of those two, maybe victor eklund? He’s a bit undersized but he’s a play driver with a sneaky good shot
@Staxxx23 I would like to see us snag Victor eklund but I think Grier is gunning for a defenseman. Victor is 2 feet under 6 ft and Grier send to have an affinity for the taller guys
@Staxxx23 Grier is very sly. I'm betting he trades vanacek and keeps gorgeiv bc nabby is the Russian whisperer. So he will probably get draft capital for vanecek and Miguel Greenland if he doesn't sign granlund but granlund is a great keeper to mentor the youngsters. While playing in a no pressure market
I agree with trying to grab V. Eklund. I have watched some video on him and he might be better than W. Eklund. Understand the thought of GMMG wanting a defenseman, but I agree with JD that he takes BPA in the first round and is not afraid to move up or back to get them if he can.
Ekblad would be a aweoms signing if we could get him, I’m with you on this one, also I love see us go for a a player like rust of penguins a top 6 player
I agree with the comments saying no Ekblad. I don’t think he’s good enough to get the contract he’ll probably get in free agency. That said, I think Ferraro’s verse needs more love in the holiday video! He was great!
In the Top 4 of course they should try to get Schaefer. After that it's not clear right now. Frondell had injury problems, Ryabkin fall off a cliff surprisingly, McQeen is tough to predict. This draft also seems not very deep with good Talent. Picking Top 4 maybe 7 is key. WE are two years into a rebuild, far away from a Sabres situation. Also how long a rebuild takes depends on the quality of high end players youre gonna get. We have Celebrini, we got lucky. Grier will not rush anything. He pretty much said that after he joined the Sharks. He will make every step that is necissery to go for a proper rebuild.
Think sharks look to trade for a Defensive minded top 4 RD rather than overspend for Pionk or Ekblad. Think Schaefer or Hensler depending on where we draft will be the sharks preference in the draft.
Also next season be good add guy like Tanner jeannot he needs new contract end this season and I’m not sure kings be able get him signed with what they need do keep few others too
I’d rather play at the top of the market front load the contracts so when your prospects get good the cap hits are more manageable. Especially if we get a top 3 pick this year again
Hopefully Grier can get some free agents to buy into the rebuild. One or more of Rantanen, Ekblad, Boeser. Maybe pry a dman from The rangers or Buffalo if he can
I agree with not making the Ekblad move. For the amount of term and cost, it would be a mistake for an oft injured player. The Sharks have (today) over 35 million in cap space at the end of the season (according to Puckpedia 36.7 million). Add to that the expected cap increase of seven to nine million, they can go big game hunting. They did overpay for Toffoli and Wennberg but I am not so sure they need to overpay to sign FAs next offseason. With Celebrini and other young talent they have right now and what we most believe is coming the Sharks may become more of a destination. Add to that is my belief that GMMG is patient, disciplined, wise and (as one had stated in an earlier comment) sly. I think the moves he makes now could be setups for future moves. Just like getting Askarov and (after reading Shengs interview) Kovalenko. He was looking to get both players a year before he landed them but needed to make moves to have the assets or the situation to make those acquisitions possible. I do hope they land a big fish or two but I think that because of where the Sharks are at in their rebuild GMMG will be slow and cautious (as he did this season). Doesn't mean he won't but I do not think he is going to take unnecessary chances or overpay either. Looking forward to what GMMG does moving forward.
@@voightkampffchamp I agree to a point. I think JD is on to something with getting a high end RD (although I do not think Ekblad is the right move). Looking at the Sharks prospect pool, they do have RDs, but as well all know they do not have that coveted first pair RD. If there is someone out there in FA that could fill that role I think GMMG takes a run at him. But I do not think he overpays either in term or salary. Also, with the comments he made during Sheng's Blackwood trade interview, to me, he is always looking to add the right pieces but with terms that fits into where he thinks he is with the rebuild. It is going to be a very interesting rest of the season and even more so for the next offseason. GMMG said he is in the adding phase, but what he does do will be with his knowledge what is coming and an idea of when the prospects he has will be providing meaningful minutes for the Sharks.

I’m a Boston Bruins fan but I like the Sharks 🦈. Cool jerseys + lots of prospects to get excited for l.
Sturm was my pick too. I have a newfound respect for him now
