I just saw it and heard it was insane. I hate the hype train but for once it’s true! There were things on screen I might never unsee and I feel like it almost gave me a high! I think I loved it and I want to say it might be a masterpiece but def need to process it more. It was a lot!

I've always loved horror films. And I love deep, philosophical
things that really make you think. I think The Substance is really going to pack a wallop in both of these areas. I am also drawn in by the cool visuals, the music, the costuming, and the set design. I think all of the various crews did a great job on this movie, from what I can tell. I don't mind body horror, so long as it fits in with the story, and it definitely does here.

I love Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley!! Dennis Quaid is great too. You can tell that he enjoyed playing the Harvey Weinstein-esque villain in this. That's his character's first name!! I can't wait to see this!

*My most hyped and anticipated film event of the year!* More than Dune, Longlegs or even Alien for me. Can’t. fucking. wait! I’m practically stalking this film, I know too much 💀 🫠

This is one of the best-made trailers for this type of film I have seen. It gets just the right amount of intrigue without giving too much or going too far. It takes you to the edge and then leaves you wondering what else. Great trailer and makes me want to watch it even though I am not the biggest fan of these types of body horror films. The acting also looks excellent, and that is also set up very well with this trailer. - Nathan

@@24chambersoffilm 👌 *true true!* I don’t want to say too much but I believe this trailer barley scratches the surface of what’s to come. 💀 this is something made specifically for the cinema experience. And sure, it does have that over-the-top, french extremist attitude about it but those qualities I believe serve a purpose for what’s being expressed here, It’s nothing ever empty, it’s alive and angry thanks to Coralie's acute direction. 🔥
If this thing doesn’t come anywhere near us I’m gonna be pissed. lol

This movie goes FAR deeper than that. I think Fargeat took some of the body horror cues from it, and it's definitely a film that she likes. But the similarities end there. Dealing with the whole misogyny and sexism/ageism in Hollywood, Weinstein and the MeToo movement, and our obsession with yourh gives this movie a lot of depth. Stylistically , she is also taking cool cues from Kubrick, as well as Cronenberg. Amping up the sound makes me think of the fact that this is also a product that while Demi's character is consuming it, it is consuming her too. Dennis eating the shrimp and hearing the sound of the needle piercing the membrane of the bottle are heightened. In the
Third act, there is a brutal fight scene and I can't wait to see it unfold in all of its brutal, grotesque glory. Because I think the two main characters forgot that our Substance on the inside is always the most important. We are one, And we have to balance ourselves internally. And you can't run from yourself.

@@nyneegardner6235 the film certainly owes a lot to The Fly, particularly the body horror stuff. But it is about it's own thing. I do think that The Fly is deeper and smarter and more original, however, this is film of the year.
The Fly is my favourite film of all time. It is not a Fly copy but has maybe one too many allusions to it. But maybe thats just because i am SOO familiar with The Fly.
