    One of the greatest movies ever made...scariest?...I dont know....most disturbing?...very possible....but regardless, it is cinematically superior to all the movies you mentioned, as far as acting, direction, music, script...the list goes on...I just think you didnt get it dude....but hey...of course...to each their own!!!

    • @pauldayclemens7761
      @pauldayclemens7761 День назад

      I could not agree more. Scariest of all time is such a subjective thing. What scares one person will make another laugh or bore them. But, to your point, 'The Exorcist' is simply a stunning piece of filmmaking art. The Oscar winning screenplay is head and shoulders above the writing in 90% of horror films and is in the same category as 'Rosemary's Baby', 'Silence Of The Lambs', 'Deliverance', 'Don't Look Now', 'Psycho' and a select handful of others. 'The Exorcist' is simply one of the greatest FILMS ever made, regardless of scariness. And it also has brilliant performances by the entire cast, creating -- along with Blatty's superb adaptation of his own classic novel -- characters you truly care about and fear for. And William Friedkin managed to match his remarkable career-high direction of 'The French Connection' with another masterpiece. And if Dick Smith 's unforgettable make-up does not stand the test of time and linger in the mind long after seeing the film then nothing does. And as for jump scares, I could list a BUNCH of moments that made audiences jump out of their seats at multiple screenings I attended at the time of the film's initial release. However, ANY film as celebrated and mega-successful as 'The Exorcist' can't possibly retain its original power to terrify after years of pop-culture celebrity. It's simply too well known now, even to those who haven't scene the entire film in context. But, to put the final button of excellence on this watershed example of supernatural cinema, how many horror films have ever received TEN (count 'em) Oscar nominations? That puts 'The Exorcist' in a very rare category indeed.

    This is such a bad, antiquated take. You can tell someone doesn’t know what they are talking about with regard to film when they talk simply about how “scary” a movie is or isn’t. Approaching this film with that in mind is so boring and ignorant. “The Exorcist” is so much more than its reputation suggests it is. It is a far more quiet, pensive, thoughtful, and sensitive film than it gets credit for, but people approach it fixating on nothing but its grotesque elements. Is it one of the scariest films ever to this day? Maybe not. Is it one of the best films ever made? Absolutly. If you can’t see that because you were too fixated on how scared you were or weren’t, then you in fact see the film. You simply didn’t get it lol. Clown take here lol.

      Agreed. This movie is about wrestling with faith and failure, the battle between good and evil. It’s also about the desecration of a little girl’s body and the fight for her soul. It’s about a demon’s revenge, redemption, a mother’s Love, internal pain and conflict, I could go on. All that being said. I Love horror history and horror movies. I am a spiritual person. This movie scares the HELL out of me. Unlike most horror movies, I don’t rewatch. Once was enough.

    I watch so many scary movies and NOTHING scares me anymore as when i did when i was a kid. In other words there are truly no film i can watch i would say its scary regardless of the time it was made. Its not how scary a film is, its the story and the eeriness that will stay with you. Its those moments that when you are by yourself and you look in the dark corner and there is an evil presence that reminds you of something you once watched of felt on screen that cant be described when you are watching it. But while you were watching the film you werent in the least scared. If you ask yourself…. Is there ANY film you would say is scary? The conjuring you say? You can watch it again and its less and less scary each time

    • @24chambersoffilm
      @24chambersoffilm 19 часов назад

      I agree with what you are saying. I think it all comes down to when you watch something. Being that I did not watch this until years after its release and had seen so many different types of horror movies before I don't think it had the same effect as it did to people who got to experience it when it was first released. Also in my head hearing from so many people it is the scariest ever I just personally expected it to be scarier. I think the story was good though. The Conjuring I have seen twice, once in the movie theater and once at home, when I saw them they spooked me. For whatever reason The Exorcist did not.

    • @alfiey5783
      @alfiey5783 18 часов назад

      @@24chambersoffilm the films i find scary if i had to choose a word is the ones that are most eerie and unsettling like hereditary or the ring. Moments when you have flashbacks in moments you are by yourself. Walking to the washroom late at night and images conjure of what you watched. This probably could be said for any film, but most ppl can probably relate to the exorcist most likely because of their deeps ties to religion and having children of their own wondering if this can happen to them.

    My theory is either the brother twin brother gets attacked sometime after he departs from his brother or comes across people or something and make a pact with the devil for some riches he’s the more wild brother it’s said they’re bootleggers. And the scene of MBJ smoking and scared is actually the last act of the movie morning after the battle in the barn. And while he’s smoking he sees something scary and who he sees/shooting at is his twin brother vampire

    The trailer for ‘The Substance’ promises titillation galore for teenage boys and dirty old men, under the guise of ‘social critique’. How far is this tactic from the films produced by the American Social Hygiene Association, at the beginning of the 20th century? The males will leave this film with ‘flesh on the mind’ and the females with ‘cosmetics on the mind’. Successful actresses build their career on character, rather than contours (i.e. Angela Lansbury). Filmmakers who genuinely love women, provide opportunities for their feminine strength of character to shine. Misogynistic filmmakers expose bodily contours and then proceed to tear them apart for the viewer’s perverse delight. My favourite Demi Moore film is ‘One Crazy Summer’. I would like to see more films like ‘Howard’s End’ or ‘Trust’ where the women are given something edifying to do… While the filmmakers are patting themselves on the back, for simply reinforcing ‘the male gaze’, here are some valid criticisms: “But for all its feminist diatribes, The Substance is still a movie that is 80 percent extreme close-ups of Margaret Qualley’s arse. In nearly every other scene, the camera lovingly pans over her spandex-clad exterior, in sequences that are shot like ‘90s Viagra commercials” (Inverse.com). "The Substance’s presentation is as shallow as the very thing it’s critiquing. There’s no compassion, and certainly no catharsis - just more hagsploitation and a sense of déjà vu." (Hannah Strong) "An overuse of stale horror conventions in an already predictable plot-combined with decades-old, thoroughly unchallenging ideas about women’s relationships to their bodies-leads to a film that claims to support its protagonist, while treating her like the butt of the joke at every turn." (Paste Magazine) 'After two hours and 20 minutes of flamboyantly repulsive variations on this well-worn theme, even the strongest-stomached and most feminist of viewers could be excused for muttering, We get it already." (Slate Magazine)
