Today we are tackling the hidden multi tool. I wanted the make tool like the Oneup EDC but without treading my top tube or knocking out the star nut. I't definatley not as good as the EDC but for a bit of a hack job I'm really happy with it.

two words my friend. Shark Tank! I'd buy it.
Same, the simplicity compared to EDC is what the market wants. There is also granite designs make a top mounted one, but I dont like its multi tool.
Pretty freaking clutch! You're still not helping me avoid buying a 3D printer. 😂
Stop procrastinating and just do it. I'm thinking of doing a gopro mount special next and seeing how many crazy views I can get in 48hrs. I'm sure thats something you'd be keen on?
Fantastic design. I'm going to school for engineering right now and it's awesome to see some MTB product design and CAD. I'd love to try this out
Thanks Zach. What school?
@@juliangoulding Southern New Hampshire University in the USA going for aeronautical engineering
@@adkmtb5046 that's near Highland Mtb park? must be some good riding round there. I love to go ride round the US and the north east is defiantly on the list.
@@juliangoulding Yes sir! Highland is awesome! New England has amazing trails. I hope you're able to make the trip someday
T Handle wrenches are great when applying torque, but when the torque is not needed the the rotational motion is very awkward. You may want to check the Super T Handle with Metric Allen Set, compact with a unique spinning feature when torque is not needed.
Wow, amazing! I'm into 3D designing and I'm still not quite sure how you made that plug fit in the bottom of the fork but it looks awesome. Definitely going to print one. Great job!
This is so smart and I love the inclusion of the 3D diagrams!
That is a clever piece of kit. Love to see how something is developed into a useable item. Stay save mate.
Thanks, same to you! Yeah thinking of working on it a bit more in the future maybe.
Wow that looks great. Been looking at these type of things recently. The green matches my bike perfectly so would love one please. Keep up the great work and video's👍🏻
Thanks Julian, amazing idea! I took your 3D plans and printed (the plug only - FDM Nylon 12 low res 0.3 mmawesome
That is a great tool!! I am going to have a go printing it and see how it goes! 😁
I would love one of those good job I have a giant anthem it has the overdrive 2 head tube so I think it’s 11/2 inches taper to a 11/4 stem
Ahh I would love one thanks !! Love all the bit and tech you make definitely trying stuff a like !!
New to your channel, watched a few videos now and really enjoyed them. You've a good way of explaining things mate.
Glad you like them! More coming soon!
I printed this, just the basic one to see if it works and this week I took it down a trail where the small rocks where the size of a babys heads and the tool stash didn't budge. 💪
Haha nice. It's pretty surprising. Busy working on a 2.0 that should be even better....
Hi Julian, just discovered your channel, what an awesome introduction to it! Looking to get back into MTB after a long time (literally just bought a Cannondale SL3 today). and very excited to see selfless sharing of brilliant development. Here still in lockdown in Melbourne, it's a welcome thing.
Absolutely would love to get my hands on one, but appreciate I'm probably too late. Subscribed and will be binge watching for the rest of the night no doubt. Cheers.
This is awesome!
Would love to see if you could add a tire plug kit to the top of this.
Hello, the design is awesome... have you put it up for sale yet? I live in Las Vegas NV and trails here are really rough. I think here would be the perfect place to test it... I would like to get one, let me know how to get one.
Again another outstanding 48hr challenge. Thanks. I’ve got a Trek and a backyard track so keen to do a product test for you 😊 Cheers Andrew
What Trek do you have?
@@juliangoulding Hi Julian its a Fuel EX9.8 2018/9 Sweet Ride!
Hi again. Sorry for the delay getting back to you and the short reply last night was too knackered too think. Forgot to click the Bell when I sub'd so only spotted your question last night. Hope you are getting slammed this weekend seemed like the whole of NZ was out and about. It is perfect Autumn weather to be out riding. My profile pix was taken at the start of the Timber Trail a few years back and was an "Epic" ride everyone should do. I've been watching your vids for a while now and am really keen to check out your camp for a day or two 🏕. You should do a short clip asking for sweet ideas to build (but I'm guessing your active imagination has plenty more swirling round in there😊) I would like to see your take on a rear carrier that is compatible with a full sus and a dropper post. Pretty dam tricky i guess with a printer. Thanks again for posting Cheers Andrew
Do you have a link to what multitools will work with your download? P.S. badass design man, keep up the good work!
I would love one the one ups are expensive and can’t buy it anywhere
Great video. Tip for the wheelies, need to go higher, find the balance point of your bike.
Awesome video!! your product design skills are getting next level. with the wheelie you actually need your seat down or halfway for balance(you want a low CG). And it may seem counter intuitive but you want to use the hardest gear you can get away with because low gears will make the pedal pressure twitchy.
Thanks! Yeah will try it tomorrow. Gotta get it dialed before the end of lockdown!
Amazing what you did there. Do you have an assembly and installation video?
That's genius mate well done ,your a clever fella
Haha, Cheers mate!
Very smart! Arrived here from Thingverse
If you don’t want to tap threads into your steerer tube get the smaller more affordable option that doesn’t require you to tap threads into your steerer tube the one up edc lite and also pretty cool tool you made there
Thanks for sharing this!
Can you tell me the diameter of the Fork Cork or 1 1/5 inch Forkshaft?
you have the #dreambike. sweet plug design as well! very creative
Wow! Very interesting and sadly i don't have 3D printer. Have you tried testing it on stairs and trail yet to ensure they can hold well.
What about the EDC lite?
I would like one of those, they are cool,I really like your front fender that looks awesome
Damn nice 👍 which tools are you using in the storage? Thank you!
Like so many others are saying, I would like to buy one. Also, your Trek is sick.
Great idea, how much would you sell the whole kit?
oh gosh i'm only 2 years late! I have a trek roscoe and would love this tool. are you selling to the US?
Would you share the exact names for which tools it can hold? Maybe add amazon affiliate?
This is sick mate... I need one!
that´s is just amazing! how is that surving after 1+ year of use?
Wauw nice! You really made a good choice in the tools there! Would love one!
Well done! Well done!
Thats amazing! How would i get one, happy to pay if the price is good.
I have the fork cork and spent ages researching and buying tools, co2 and chain breakers etc small enough to fit through the 30mm opening. My next challenge was what to store them in so they don’t rattle around. This looks ideal. Now to find someone with a 3D printer .
This guy used a Wolf Tooth Encase multi tool

Just came across your channel and found bikes and 3D printing, two of my biggest hobbies.
=> Instant subscribe!
P.S.: Nice design!
Cheers mate!
Great idea! I wonder.. would you be willing to share the CAD file? I just got my first 3D printer and I'm an absolute novice but this seems like an ideal first print (and I also ride a Trek, a Fuel EX)
This is sick. Gonna print one!
I have the Oneup EDC on one bike and the SWAT tool cable tied to the saddle of my other! Would love to test it on the UK trails!
Bro I've been looking for something like that do you make them for anybody because I would be happy to get one! Represent Brother!!
Just found your channel. This is an amazing idea. I would love to get one of these
Thanks for the idea but that plug thing you didn't actually need to design it since you can get an expanding stem top cap that would have done the same exact thing, only issue is that you'd need a tool to tighten and loosen it but I have a bit driver hidden in my hollowtech crank (all in multi-tool) to take it off and I also have a chain tool hidden in my handlebars (topeak ninja c)...so now all I needed to carry around was a couple of tyre levers. I know topeak makes a bottle cage that has tyre levers but it looks ugly compared to the carbon fiber bottle cage I already have. So all I did was to wrap the tyre levers around some velcro and shove it up the steerer tube and used the expanding top cap to keep it from falling out. Had to wrap velcro around the levers just enough so it'll be snug in the bottom of the steerer tube, so it doesn't rattle around.
wow very clever and sleek! i’m going to order a print! thanks!
Awesome! Thank you!
Great product. Are you selling these anywhere? I'd love to get one.
Yes my friend id love to have one. Do you sell them?
What a great idea and solution! I wonder if my small pump will fit up there?
Can you provide the cad file for a 'blank' of the section with the cutout for the tool? That way anyone can adapt it to fit whatever they want to. Great Design!
I uploaded one for you mate, it's in the thineverse link.
@@juliangoulding Thanks, but could you provide the CAD (Fusion 360) file too? It is difficult to accurately edit STL as its a mesh file type.
@@niketpatel9797 I'm holding onto the Cad file for now. will maybe release it later so will let you know when I do. If you are having trouble editing a Mesh file, you can covert it to a Base feature. In Create, down the bottom, "Create Base Feature" then in "Modify > Mesh > Mesh to BRep" click on the mesh and the click "Finish Base Feature"
Hope that helps.
Hi Julian, i hoping to get it printed soon. Do you have any details of what multitool you used and what chain tool too?
It was a replacement specialized swat tool and a bbb multi tool. The best is to print just the plug part that I did first then you can throw anything up there in a sandwich bag. That's what I I've actually been doing for the last few months.
Wow! That's a really cool project. In your next video, please do some close-up shots so we can admire the details.
How many iterations did you need to get the plug to work to your satisfaction? I find people often lose patience and stop after too few iterations and then are unhappy with the results.
Is the TPU you used to make the O-ring the stuff called "poly cord"? It's often used to make belts for material handling in factories.
Did the tools rattle in the carrier? What did you do to stop the rattling?
We really appreciated the ingenuity and the "do it yourself" attitude when we lived in NZ :-)
Thanks for the comment. I must of done about 10 prints to iterate the mechanism. The TPU is a flexible filament for the 3d printer. If you put the tools up there in a plastic bag then they don't rattle at all.
That’s awesome. I love the mash-up concept of the OneUp EDC and the Fork Cork. Have you considered using a more readily-available multitool, like the Crank Brothers M5?
Also, which chain breaker did you have in there?
That's a great idea! I'll have a look. this was just whatever I had lying around. not sure on the chaintool, it will be just the cheapest one around that we chuck in our rental kits.
Could you please tell me, whats the multi tool is? All in all awesome job!!
Specialized SWAT
Didn't know South Africa was so lush and pretty with mtb trails. How do you keep safe there? Wild life?
I keep safe by living in New Zealand😂
The most feared creature in New Zealand is the Giant Weta ;-)
What a Badass tool!🤘 I would like to try one out on my Tallboy!
This is cool would fit my treak
How’s the design co ing along? Ready for taking orders? I’m sure they would be fork specific installations.
Yeah getting there. I working on the followup to the Fender (one of my earlier vids) at the moment and researching heaps of different forks so hopefully that will help me later with this.
Is this better than the original ecd system? At least there is more room in the lower part of the steering column. Will going to print it as soon as librarys reopen. Cheers.
Cheers Mikko. It works well, I've been riding more just with the plug bit and storing heaps of other stuff up there. you are right about there being more space down the bottom.
Just found your channel. Love it. Great storage idea.
Thanks!
Awesome job man!!
Thanks Casey
That's pretty cool, do you have a link for the Multitool?
Great Hack!! What size bolt did you use?
Thats a very good idea and would really like to try one out. Sent from Cape Town South Africa 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Man this is awesome!!!! i want one!
All you need to do with the base cap is a rubber coated multitool or a deceased inner tube turned to a bag.
I would totally buy this!! Are you selling them?
Julian - amazing build so well done. Would you be able to ship any to the UK? If not maybe share print specs so I can get a friend to attempt one for me.
I put the link to the files in the discription for you mate.
I would love one
Whats the song near the end
Thats some awesome work would live to try one of these looks like your in NZ like me too
great job!
Are they for sale
Any links to get it
Not yet unfortunately. I'll post it here as soon as it is.
these are awesome. Id buy one!
Nice job! What kind of a model multitool did you use?
Supercool my friend. Too bad i dont have a 3d in hand
Hi, what material did u use to print it? Looks amazing by the way
I’d buy that. Amazing work.
How can I get one of those?
Wow man this is far mpre rad than anything on the market i feel!!!!! How much$$??$$??
Would love to buy one of these if you ever sell them. Also interested in seeing what you can come up with for Gopro mounts. Great stuff here, thanks for doing this.
Here’s a problem I have, no iscg mounting holes on my mtb, and I have a PF BB, I can’t find an adapter to mount a bash guard too!!! Sounds like a 48 hr challenge to design one???!!!😜
mmmm..... it might be. can you not change your sproket?
I did, to a 30t absolute black oval! Switched the old 2x for a 1x12 sram gx group.
Do u sell the them and how much...
That is awesome! What a great way to find your channel! I love the concept and would love one! I am trying to fix up an old bike to a single speed for around town. Will you be selling these?
Cheers mate, what bike you working on? I'm busy working on something you might like then.... yeah thinking about it, the response has been amazing.
Just a Murray Cintro from the 90s I've got it all stripped just need to grind off the paint, repaint and wait for the new parts to come in.
Where is the link
How do i get one? That’s perfect.
Would like to get one to!!! You also have me looking at 3D printers, any recommendations on a printer? Thanks
What's the budget?
Probably $150-250 range...
Cara, isso foi uma ótima idéia
Obrigado!
Well made.
what chain breaker was used?
Think it's a Topeak one
So cool let me know if you ever sell these
will do!
Dude I think my fork has got smaller diameter. What should I do?
Measure and let me know. I'll upload anouther file for you.
I’d buy it!
Best 3d print for bike.
Yes, definitely
You are a genius! I would like to purchase that :D
Beautiful! Are you selling this as a kit or the design for my own print?
Thanks Leo. Not selling it... Yet. But all my patreons get access to all files I make and in the description you can find the stl file link on thingeverse.
Did you decide to sell this? Imma buy 1!
