    A very worthy restoration of a very old hand cranked grinding stone,it will make a lovely display in a school of engineering for a typical example of the old ways,gets my 5 ☆ rating

    Great job but get rid of those modern bolts. And get the stone trimmed in a stone yard. It will greatly increase its value.👍

    Very nice. Just a couple of suggestions. I would paint the name emblem black, or possibly a different color to make it stand out more. I would also make the legs the width of that standing edge on the frame. The standing edge is there to help keep the legs from moving, but it only works if you have a leg that fits snug to the edge. That is also why there is only one bolt. I am guessing a 2x4 is about right. Your legs will not be stable for long. Did you use that old fence post to preserve the old look? Good idea, but they are not wide enough. And last, I would bush that stone somehow so that it won't move on the axis and then dress the stone.

      Not like it is. It will not last very long without Babbitt bearings. And the legs are wobbly - since they are not flat on the tank side nor are they shaped to the channels.

    Good job so please use a wire brush more strong, what you use just remove superficial oxide do not expose the metal.
    also is better finish if you use filling premier, one or two hands as required, and some sand paper before paint on casting

    At least we have few people on earth who 'fix' something broken rather than 'throw' it away like the new generation

    • @grendelum
      @grendelum 6 лет назад +2

      Prahlad Das Dewkeea - it’s a bit unfair to toss that at the feet of a generation of people... the problem is that manufacturers have found more profit in making things specifically *_not_* to last, ensuring repeat business. When I was in high school I worked for an electronics repair company, fixing TVs and microwave ovens... that industry has almost entirely disappeared as surface mount electronics are not only *_super_* hard to work with, but companies design their boards to be replaced as an entire unit rather than troubleshot.
      *_Every_* generation has had (and will have) folk that’d rather throw something away and replace it, rather than fixing it. Conversely, *_every_* generation has had (and again will have) folk who enjoy fixing what’s broken. The _”good old days”_ people often hark to never existed and there are actually *_more_* people _making and doing_ these days than ever before thanks to things like the Arduino and those same manufacturers creating cheaper bits for the gubbins.

    You don't "drag" a blade against the wheel, you push what you're sharpening into it. Try turning the crank the other way.
