Was dark matter supposed a higher tier unknown element but accelerator true ability was information processing of unknown and the fact he understood and learn it he was able apply the vectors to reverse it also can secretly understand knowledge of implementing the ability he has yet to comprehend

@@EmpereurTom I mean while he's only 7th ranked amongst the Level 5 Espers he's a bit of an odd mainly because of how disjointed and ludicrous his powers are, nobody not even Gunha himself knows how his powers works to the point where it's a running gag that when ever anyone asks him about his powers he just gives some Technobabble answer only to be told what he's talking about doesn't work that way. On the other hand Ollerus suggests that Gunha might be a failed Magic God like himself and could defeat him if he actually understand his abilities and considering how busted Ollerus was....

Sure, he said Gunha had the potential to surpass him if he understood his own power, but the key word here is « potential », it’s just a theory.
By the same logic, Takitsubo has the potential to reach Lvl 5, and Misaka has the potential to reach Lvl 6 (even if just for a second), does that mean Takitsubo can fight current Lvl 5s in a 1v1 and that Misaka is the strongest Esper ? No, because theories doesn’t mean anything until proven right.
Currently, Sogiita deserve to be ranked at the lowest place. Base Misaka already surpass him in term of versatility, Battle IQ and experience, and you can add raw power and durability if you count her powered-up forms, Mental Out is Instant-Kill for anyone who isn’t immune to it, and Aihana Etsu… well, we basically don’t know anything about him yet.
Mugino ? Eh, I guess he can beat her. But from the moment she lost twice to Hamazura, I think anyone can beat Mugino.
Accel has the best drip of them all, destroying cities or monsters while looking clean is essential 👌😂
Kakine is the only one that can wear a pullover underneath a dress shirt and pull it off.
To think that vector control has endless possibilities if not restricted to the laws of science, accelerator could possibly reach a God like level or could be classified as a legendary level or demigod level(oh wait that's probably lv 6).
@Kamijou Medi Yea your right Kakine could also achieve this power, but if u compare the LN accelerator has got a lot of character development. I am waiting to see what the Dark Matter manga is going to do next. Heck it probably tell a good story than the accelerator manga.

Yeah it's Mugino's main weakness before NT that she toys around with her enemies because she's sadistic. Same reason why she lost to Hamazura the first time.

I like how Level 5 rank is based on how useful they are on certain parameter, not because their raw power. This how you ranking something in science/real life.

Mugino is definitely one of the more underrated level 5s after Accelerator, Kakine, Misaka and Misaki, she literally sliced an Aegis class destroyer like nothing, managed to severely damage Dianoid and even sliced a high tech fighter jet from the ground

I think what should me more impressive is that she blew Kakines dark matter body away pretty much completely, she blew away literal dark matter with ease

Actually, it's kind amazing Accelerator can reflect attacks with infinite acceleration, and with his Platinum wing he shakes the whole Galaxy, he is truly "the one who wields the power of God"
And other thing, he also refected an attack so powerful wich can overload imagine breaker, that's mind-blowing 🤯🤯🤯
Stiyl's Innocentius can also deal with Imagine Breaker as it's regeneration speed is greater than IB's cancelling speed.
Like stevie said even styls innocentus can do same thing to imagine breaker. And Index's dragon breath from first arc.
So by saying platinum wings is amazing by pointing out obvious weakness of ib wouldn't make platinum Wing's amazing.
Thats because Innocentius regens faster than IB can negate, but Magick Flaming Sword is different as it directly overpowered IB.

I find it deeply interesting that Touma's Dragons seem to have most of the level 5's and some Magic users powers rolled into one
The Dragon King has the same powers as Index's Dragon's Breath of destroying ones memories
The Angel Dragon can turn things into salt much like what Kakine can do and also mind control someone like Misaki
The Spearhead Dragon can shoot lighting from its body and fires lasers much like Mikoto's Railgun and Mugino Meltdown
The Blind Dragon and The Four-eyed Dragon can blur the line between dreams and reality and overcome you with fear confusion
The Corpse Flame Dragon can burn one's life force
The Ice Crystal Dragon can breathe ice (I would imagine turns you into ice as well) and survived plant buster attacks.
The One-eyed Cobra Dragon has the undiluted concept of poison so its bite is worst than death itself.
I would not be shocked if Kamachi did pull the crack theory of Touma is really the #0 Level 5.
Yeah here’s the thing Aleister talked about if there’s a existence of the Number #0 Level 5 which always makes me question and have a crazy theory of Touma revealing to be or going to be the Number 0 Level 5
It makes sense for Touma since he defeated Accelerator the First rank. So I wonder if this is secret that Aleister kept from the public of Academy City and the Level 5’s

Remember, rankings aren't purely based on strength --gunha is 7th *because* nobody knows how his power works. Can't get much research out of that.

Wow great video, thanks for explaining the section on how they are ranked by usefulness and not particularly raw power. Speaking of raw power I always love being reminded of how busted Accelerator is now no one in the science side at this point can match him and he can even handle some of the magic side of course excluding gods, demons, Awiass whatever Anna and Alice are. (Oh, and Touma and Aleister of course). Back on topic though, I truly do wonder if they can reach even greater heights Accelerator and Kakine so far are the only ones to surpass their previous levels. Gunha is a very special case and since he got even acknowledgement from an impure magic god (Ollerus) he does have the potential to go even further for sure. It seems like out of the last 3 girls mostly Misaka is interested in increasing her strength if she can increase her power maybe through another machine like the AAA or coming into contact to the side of magic to find a similar path to power like Accelerator I'm very interested to see either way. While some of these characters in terms of winning a fight are situational I think Kamachi made a good stack of powerful Espers. One day I hope they all fight together that would be quite a fantastic scene (I know we technically got that in NT7 but If it were to happen in a bigger battle it would be even cooler IMO.)
Yeah the Level 5s all teaming up in the same scene ( I don't think the NT7 scene counts as they werent working as a team) is one of my dream moments to happen lol. At least we saw a glimpse in the second Imaginary Fest opening!
I think Misaka's path to further power us actually the MISAKA network. Accel doesn't need them anymore since he's almost a god and all. And Mikoto has been connected to the sisters ever since daiheisei

basically I see Misaka can only use AAA as a suit that increases firepower and agility, and hax is related to Magic, unless she has an "AI" like Qliphah like Acc, she doesn't. He couldn't bring out the full potential of AAA in the area of magic (more precisely, he couldn't use it, or trying to use it could be fatal).

Since I don't think Accel would come out from his 5 star cell anytime soon, it would be better that the author gives screen time to the other underrated level 5s.

I do think that mugino could have the potential for more versatility with her ability depending on how it's classified. because she is technically an electromaster of sorts, and the closest thing to a "particle wave canon" irl is pretty much some sort of weaponized laser.
iirc she does actually hack into some sort of security camera feed in nt2 as well, though idk of that was because of her ability or her cyborg parts.
but basically, assuming that meltdowner is just a weaponized laser, in theory mugino could use and manipulate non weaponized forms of lasers as well. if mugino could manipulate lasers in general by being a specialized type of, or a subset of electromaster (like junko for example), it would give her a level of versatility that could almost rival mikoto's.

In theory, she can force any given particle into a desired position and wavelength. Meaning, in theory, she can turn any object into a super-conductor, make herself almost effectively invisible and inaudible, and just generally violating the law of entropy. I currently lack the imagination to tell you how this can be applied, but in theory, it's huge. As far as I can tell, the main limitation on Mugino's ability isn't actually the recoil, but her calculation power.
Conversely, I think we might one day see mikoto incorporating Meltdowner into her own powerset.
...if she ever had a reason to cause that much destruction, that is...

The thing about Misaka is not just that she can control electricity. It a question of what electricity is and what it can do. A thing that has not been fully explored by the manga I don't believe. She doesn't have the same powers as Mental Out, but if she were to put her mind to it she could immobilize people using her control of electricity. Not just from a shock but by controlling the synapses in her opponents brains. Or their body over all. Even going so far as to shut down their brains or bodies out right. And that's small scale. Electricity has a number of forms from small to large. And the larger it gets the stronger it gets. As we can only use feats in the canon story though I think using the power she has shown as a baseline would be helpful to discussing her powers more effectively.
Very accurate. I am aggre with your list, Will be interesting if the amount of Level 5 Esper increase someday like someone who has potential to be a level 5 esper which is Takitsubo Rikou, her power actually insane but she needs body crystal to activate and control her full esper power.
@Kamijou Medi yupppp, Beginning Child, Takitsubo, Musujime Awaki, Shundan Kimi and each others I forgot them. But I think the interesting one is Takitsubo since her esper power the most has possibility to grade up like in the Light Novel, probably if she reach level 5 she will be able to take control another Esper's personal realities and probably she could give different esper abilities to someone else and remove it too. With just level 4 it's actually insane, she can detect Esper AIM Diffusion Field, you can't escape from her AIM Stalker, except you go to the space LMAO.

When I started watching anime in general in 2020 and watched the Index and Railgun series that year, I was blown away. i figured it would be a generic shounen but wow! Was I wrong! The violence, the gore and drama really surprised me! Needless to say, it is one of my favorite series of all time and I even bought the LNs this year.
I still like the way Kakine yeeted an entire building straight in the air with ease in the Dark Matter manga
This list was perfect and accurate. Also Mugino despite being one rank behind Misaka she was actually beating and almost won against Misaka. Gunha 3rd place definitely fits him in fact I argue that Gunha can definitely or maybe easily beat Misaka and maybe Kakine in their base forms.

@@AeonofHorus i think in the toaru mobile game, there was a fight between base Kakine and Sogiita, and Kakine smacked him easily, he knocked him out in about a minute or something, and Sogiita woke up a good 5 minutes later or so

It’s funny that Aleister mentioned about the number 0 level 5. Which makes me question is their such a thing if that’s the case could Touma be the number 0 or he can become number 0 level 5 due to him beating Accelerator the first rank.
Well as mentioned in the intro: beaing able to beat another Level 5 in a fight doesn't mean you are ranked above them. Though considering that if the choice is made between the life of a Level 5 and Kamijou Touma, Crowley and the City will prioritise Kamijou Touma, Touma being the #0 is a enough logical theory with /that/ criteria.
I do know at least one fic where the Board decide to have Kamijou Touma ranked as a Level 5, due to his feats.

Though considering when Misaka fought Mugino it seems Mugino hinted is if a lower level 5 beat an upper rank level 5 in a fight their ranks will switched.
I opt for the vending machine being at least stronger than Misaka and Touma, because they still can't get a drink w/o Misaka kicking it or using electricity. It takes severe force or electrical manipulation.
Gunha is the true goat. He got the recognition that he deserves!!

I pretty much agree but I think Sogiita in regards to 5.3 is still debatable. I can see placing 5.3 above Sogii and vice versa. I definitely think Sogii slaps base Misaka tho.

Good video, I personally put Gunha over base misaka but I don't think he could defeat 6 shift Misaka, as much as that sucks to say.
Buuut that was a one time powerup that was out of her control so it's not that big a deal. Fanfare makes it pretty clear that Gunha is superior to Misaka normally and I don't see the AAA changing anything there either

Misaka dodged her beams at point-blank range, and dodged her arsenal while starving, restless, & fatigued. Not only is Misaka more versatile, she’s level-headed, more strategic, and has more win-cons.
As for sogiita, ollerus alluded to Sogitta’s true power being able to beat him, and ollerus himself was fighting Othinus. To say that he wouldn’t be able to beat accelerator is blasphemous.

My guy, ollerus’ magic has no vectors, targets every single organ at the same time, and has no regard for distance. He also fought Othinus himself. Accelerator would get SLAMMED.

The fight from Toaru Jihanki no Fanfare - Misaka it use her Railgun at 30%, and Misaka in form 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3 it was more focused to destroy the Windowless Building's than on the fight, moreover her action it was also limited by the one by those who control it.
Also has very good reflexes and with her radar she can as well as enabling her to block, deflect, intercept or evade attacks and hazards without looking in their direction, most impressive is with was very tired it was able to react, doge and cordoned her body to everything fuor shots from Mugino Shizuri's Meltdowner at point black range.
The fact that accelerator got shot in the head and is on portable life support and is still the strongest lvl 5 is insane
Wonder who the other Level 5 from mental out would be, the esper would be probably be best buds with kakine cause both of them have been turned into inanimate objects

In the light novels set after the WW3 arc, mugino begins really becoming a better person after her development in the end of the arc. It's a welcome development for someone we only thought of as a psycho bitch for so long. Misaka Mikoto is also the 3rd most powerful, with Mugino being number 4, and Sogita Gunha being number 5. Although Gunha's power is difficult to quantify, which means his place might be swapped with mugino in actuality. 2nd is Dark Matter but I guess that changes eventually, 1st of course is best boy accelerator.
Big kakine fan but yeah #2 seems fair after those new accel buffs. His endless regen can be absolutely broken though paired with those offensive abilities.

If he wasn't linked to the misaka network, then there wouldn't have been any unified transcended mind and neither Accelerator could have linked to the Qliphoth, Sephiroth nor Clonoth would've been embeded. So, no wings. Although some argues that the b&w wings are not connected to the network which is true, but without the network, there wouldn't have been any platinum wings for sure.
So aeon do you think we gonna have aihana's spin off in the future ?

After re-watching railgun T how would you rank misaka if she kept all her powers as lvl 5.3 im curious

It's a nicely researched and put together video and I agree with most of your reasoning. I also appreciate the fact that you clarified the actual reason for their ranking, but I do have some disagreements.

I don't think this changes Shokuhou Misaki's placing since you said you're basing this on overall physical destrucrive power rather than who'd beat who in a fight (although you still referenced fights that happened in canon as a decisive factor in some cases anyway), but you should have mentioned that during GT4 she stated her mind control works on both Accelerator and Kakine but the consenquences weren't worth the effort. Also a slight correction, the limit of people she can control in her normal state is 15 only if she's completely taking them over, but the number goes into the triple digits if she's just giving them simple commands.
2. If this is a video about who's more powerful, then Mugino should definitely rank higher than Misaka especially after WW3 arc and into NT were she's shown to fight more efficiently and can now manipulate a much higher number of MD orbs. If she were to rematch Misaka, it's only fair to point out that since both can more or less nullify each other's abilities Mugino's superior fighting skills and cyborg enhancements would give her a great advantage.
3. I understand why you included them in the video but I don't think Misaka's level up experiment forms should affect her ranking at all. She can't neither access them willingly nor can she enter them on her own.
4. This is more of a nitpick and you probably talk about it in another video, but should have also said Accelerator's reflection is one of the few esper abilities that have proved an effective defense against magic side spells, especially in his platinum wings state.
1. I said I was basing it off destructive power & abilities. I'm aware of the quote, I thought it was really weird when that was stated since there are logical reasons why Accel could null it (moisture surely has vectors? and does Kakine have moisture in his Dark Matter brain?). Nevertheless, its a non factor since they are both way quicker than Shokuhou and beat her before she can move. However AAA Misaka is a different story. She can fly and has so much insane guns such as plasma cannons, big missiles and a large caliber Railgun. I’m not sure if Mugino can beat someone that can fly really fast at Mach 20, which is 20 times the speed of sound. Mugino isn’t that fast and nor can her body crystal increase can help her that long

Wait I have a question I’m an anime only and I haven’t seen much of Index but how is Acelerador able to use magic if he’s an esper I thought it was that once you go with magic or esper ability’s you are no longer able to do the other am I wrong ? I could have sworn I remember hearing about this in the anime I’ve seen all of Railgun and Acelerador anime as well as two seasons of Index
Espers can use magic, however by doing so their blood vessels burst (which can kill them). When Accelerator has used magic in the past he has used his ability to manipulate blood flow on himself to keep the blood within his body so he doesn't die.

Her level shift for can be argued to be stornger than kakine but if going by just what we saw not really.
But esspically realizing just that misaka assent ever really focusing on touma or sogits mainly at Her 5.3 specifically could best sogits who even if sogita was able to restraints some of misakas power he is not capable to beat her in 5.3 considering if touma wasn’t there even if he was going to try to beat her he couldn’t pierce “black hole” which would of probably kill him.
We don’t know too much about lvl 5.3 but from what we saw I say he’s not as strong as misaka 5.3
If gunha whet 100 percent from the beginning sure he could of beat misaka 5.1 but not 5.3

Yeah I'd say in pure power, 5.3 Misaka is stronger than base Kakine, although Base Kakine has some hax (his transmutation) that might allow him to win as I say in the video. But honestly I don't see how 5.3 Misaka can beat DM Kakine, who is linked to his own network and can regen instantly indefinitely.
Sogiita was trying his hardest against the black ball true, but at the same time he wasn't trying his hardest to defeat Misaka as that wasn't his objective. I feel like without the black ball, 5.3 Misaka has no way to kill Sogiita as Sogiita can just regen, while I feel Sogiita would pretty much kill/KO 5.3 with one amazing punch.

@@AeonofHorus I think your overestimating gunha. He was getting tossed around by lvl 5.2 and his attacks weren’t really doing much as she was barely acknowledging them. I don’t think a simple ‘amazing punch’ would be enough to take down an angelic being. All in all Gunhas not capable of beating 5.3

Base Kakine is still on par with Accelerator in Speed (Sub-Relativistic). Meaning that everything that 5.3 throws at him can be dodged. Base Kakine has both hax of ignoring certain materials and just pierce human flesh as well as turning matter into sand. Those two attacks tbh even just the first would be enough to kill 5.3
All of her defenses would be ignored and she would be pierced by the wings which is enough to kill her.

Let’s be honest, if Touma land a full force punch, he would’ve knocked out every level 5 except Gunha and Kakine. Thus I don’t really think getting knocked out by one punch is making Aihana under Misaki. Cause I don’t think anyone could be physically weaker than Misaki. But yeh We don’t really know anything about Aihana so it’s whatever lmao.

It's not always simply about punching though.
For both current Accelerator or awakened Kakine, the least powerful Touma has to be is a fully evolved Sky Blue and Lemon Yellow form with Imagine Breaker.
For Misaka, he just needs his head, precognition and IB. But then, if she has access to a lot of mecha, his base form will have a lot of trouble. In A.A.A. form, she will be dangerous too.
For Misaki (assuming she has a lot of people without supernatural powers to control against Touma), it will be a game of physical stamina (cancelling her control over them using IB) vs mental stamina (her controlling many people). The difficulty exponentially increases with the power scaling of the people she can control. However, Touma has a chance because she can't give too many complicated commands at once.
For current Mugino, it will be very tough. She has a cyborg limb, and that can wreck base Touma despite precognition. Basically he needs to use at least an accessory if not the dragon shell. It will be a dangerous matchup like against Rensa.
A very serious Gunha (not the one that played around with Junko) can be done in, with only the things inside his right hand. This is mere speculation from the fact that Gunha can adapt to deal with any attack he sees coming or know what it's capable of.
Oh, they actually showed #6. It should be noted that Takitsubo Rikou had the potential to become the #8 Level 5.

I hope you get into it one day bc is really one of the best ever :) it just suffers from having a mediocre adaptation (in index) and how people in the west like simple to follow plots. Its so rewarding if you manage to get into the plot and watch/read order

I liked Misaki's vid but she actually doesn't control moisture as that is her level 3 counterparts ability aka mental stinger. Misaki on the other hand can control liquids which is honestly terrifyingly op if used correctly

There's not multiple versions of it, just different spinoffs. Index is the main series while Railgun and Accelerator are the spinoffs. I recommend starting with Index season 1.

@@AeonofHorus Yeah, you have a point and I did think about that. But the clone support felt more passive to me (even if Last Order could shut him down) and Qliphahs role felt more active in directly in providing the knowledge/"translating" to get to the platinum wings
The Accelerator now is not just him. It's the Will+Qliphah+Him. In human sense they are 'different' but at the same time, they are 'one'. That's how transcended mind works. Governing a cosmic tree that stands right beside the blueprint of the universe is not a simple thing.
basically for stable control of platium wing Acc needs will and Qliphah 545, without Qliphah of course Acc won't be able to access higher knowledge, without Will but with qliphah, he can use knowledge , but Acc's brain and body have limits because he's just a normal human, if too much knowledge flows into his head Acc won't be able to stand it and might lose his life, but if too little then Acc won't have the knowledge to fend off attacks or more advanced Magical beings, Will is like a filter or a decoder and computational aid for Acc on a balanced and stable level. as determined as possible

The kakine ranking seems accurate, as I remember in an imaginary fest story kakine beat sogiita barely trying, while Sogiita seemed to be trying quite hard

I try to tell people that the science side strength is nothing compared to the magic side a lot of characters can defeat accelerator but yeah I’m still impressed with accelerator’s placement to be a threat period, magic side or not. I thought Misaka would be rank higher than Gunha but yeah you have a point on Gunha, he’s insane.

It's interesting to know what the canon ranking means actually, as I always thought their ranking was based on who could beat who and Gunha was where he was because Academy City couldn't make sense of his ability.
The reason I thought this was because, if you see all the level 5s without number 6 and Gunha, you'll notice that each Level 5 resists all the abilities of everyone below them in the ranking.
Accelerator can manipulate even dark matter. Kakine's dark matter body and ability presumably resist electricity and grants protection from mind control. Misaka manipulates meltdowner's electricity and has resistance to Mental Out. Mugino has resistance to Mental Out because she is also an electro master. This means that the only Spers Mizaki cannot control are all the Level 5s above her in ranking, hence why she only ranks #5 despite being waifu Professor X.

I personally wouldn't have even included 5.3 level Misaka, it isn't even her berserk state. It is her being forcibly driven past the level of 5 and would only end in her complete death. It isnt a part of her normal power at all and she cant choose to transform into it at all thus i personally see it as inherently different from Kakine and Accelerators wings which can be brought out by the user and is included in their usual abilities as a result, just them trying harder or going berserk.
Bbut, i still would keep her at the rank she was at so it doesnt matter. Just my two cents
