You are welcome... The '87 if I recall correctly was 1) First model year, and 2) Transition from Jeep/AMC to Chrysler/Renault... It should still be a Dana 30 though..... I'll see what I can find out.

You are correct. I thought the same thing with the conversion from Amc to Chrysler. I got a couple seals coming. I dont know it the crown 83500199 is the correct one or not. Thanks for your help

Hi Jim, just to be clear is there only one C clip involved with these Dana 30 front axles. The one you mention that retains the intermediate shaft in the diff?
So the two outer axle drive shafts are just retained by the three 12 point hub bolts?

Colin, according to the FSM, the only c-clip is on the intermediate shaft side. Thanks for your question.

Jim...what size washers did you use on the threaded rod when installing the passenger seal?

Hi Bryan, you need a selection of the following: one 2.25" as the pusher... one or two 2" to fit inside the seal lip, and five or six 1 3/8" as the internal "spacers"... this whole setup makes a sandwich out of the seal and will hold it in place inside the axle bore as you pull it in with the threaded rod. When you go to hardware store, bring the seal with you. The most critical dimension is the 2.25" "big" washer... smaller and it won't keep seal centered, and if bigger, it won't fit the axle tube/bore. Best of luck! It's not too bad! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi, nice video. I’m rebuilding my Dana 30 on my 88 YJ right nowTwo questions for you. You may have mentioned it but we’re there any shims for the carrier? Also when you put the intermediate shaft back in was it tough to get the gear portion through the new CAD seal?

If you are reusing same carrier and gearset, then you must use the same shims as were in there. Ther most likely are shims on pinion and the left and right of the carrier. These are what set pinion depth and then on the carrier; what sets up the proper backlash. It is critical that these are set properly. If you are simply replacing the bearings, then just reinstall ing the same shims in the same location should work fine. Second question, no it is not hard to reinstall the intermediate shaft back in. There is no seal on that side of the case. This allows diff oil to get to the axle disconnect pocket. Thanks for the comment!
