- Lanterne Rouge presents highlights of the Paris-Roubaix 2021 from Compiègne to Roubaix, a barnstormer from start to finish right up to the velodrome. van der poel, van aert and quickstep appeared to be the big favourites but the mud, rain and cobbles opened the race up.

Professional road cycling pundit Lanterne Rouge presents highlights of Paris-Roubaix 2021. Sonny Colbrelli Bahrain - Victorious wins followed by Florian Vermeersch Lotto Soudal and Mathieu van der Poel Alpecin-Fenix.
this literally is like watching people on tv on black and white with colored background....Epic!!!
I fell off my bed reading this
Reminds me of those early tour de france photos... those were the days!
You know it’s been a legendary season when everyone thought the World Championship was the best race ever… until Paris-Roubaix just a week later. 🤘🏻🔥
Tour de France was quite dull after week one.
Meilleure course de tout les temps ? Non, faut pas exagérer, il faudrait comparer avec les autres courses des années 80, 70. Par contre, c'est la grande classique.
@@MassiveLib exact
@@MassiveLib Agreed, same for all the three grand tours this year, bit of a damp squib all of them (although there were individual stage highlights in all three, just not a lot of excitement in the GC battle).
@@gladtobeangry agree.
indeed one of the best races ever, colbrelli screaming like a baby, while van der poel was in agony after such an epic race...almost more like a piece of art, an opera, than a bike race.
Really gave you flashbacks to the 'good ol days' of cycling, raw unfiltered emotion. Love it!
I feel like you haven't really mentioned vermeersch enough. The dude is 22 neo pro does his first Paris Roubaix and comes second against Colbrelli and MVDP even beating MVDP in the end after being in the break and in the front the entire day. Man of the race
He gets a good mention in the podcast.
He’s also a historian and a politician… at 22: many talents so… ;-)
very much this ^^!
And was a cyclocross rider before he went on the road
Amen...
Right after the finish, having watched since from about one hour from the start, I said to my family that people are going to be saying this is one of the best races in the last 25+ years. Just like Pauline Ballet’s incredible photos, your highlight real captured the epic nature of the race (in a way no other on RUclips has). Wonderful job Lanterne Rouge!
I agree
Fantassssstic!!!
Maybe for you!!!
I'm from Italy, I watched all the race and the last our with my friends that don't really care about cycling, but in the last km they were all screaming for Sonny, just like we did for the win against England at the European Cup in the same room. It's been amazing
Can’t wait to see what Vermeersch can accomplish in the next few years, seems similar to Wout in that he excels at one day races and can still hold his own in almost everything else. Amazing coverage and analysis as always!
Which one, 2 of them in top 20
Problem with PR is that there are so many factors at play, he may never get another shot just as good at it as that one. But at least it is reasonable to assume he will have a team racing for him next year. That will help!
Lotto had him as #2 behind Gilbert. They already knew what he could do in this race.
Top 3 all deserved to win! What a race!
I would go to TOP 4. A bit gutted for Moscon. At least that he finishes with them, not alone like that, watching them sprinting to victory. Man, that hurts.
@@jean-jacqueslavigne3109 yes good point
except for winner, he used so much wheel of van der poel that its totally not deserved
@@fireinpoe9317 if MDvP is stupid enough to give it, it's just good racing to take it
@@fireinpoe9317 Colbrelli did work, its not like he only sucked wheels. He even went on the attack before van der Poel.
Vdp certainly did more than Colbrelli, but this is how racing works.
As long as no-one got injured (beyond the normal bumps and scrapes), this will surely be my "once in a generation" race. Having the first women's race the day before made this special for me too, and got me so hyped up.
It was amazing, but the crashes were brutal, especially for the riders who crashed multiple times. And Luke Rowe pulling out into traffic like that was inexcusable for a rider of his experience. Maybe his intent was to slow everyone down while he rejoined.
Absolutely brutal!
yes the MVDP team is brutal
Boivin's face @3:09 says it all. In an interview to LaPresse (Can Journal) after the race he said "Honestly, I just closed my eyes and rushed through. I didn't touch the brakes. I can't believe I didn't crash there. I was lucky"
Boivin, meilleur canadien depuis Steve Bauer sur cette course
this race is nuts
these sort of races are what makes cycling so exciting to watch. couldnt have scripted it any better.
MvDP did incredibly well to come 3rd after battling back brom back injury. Anyone who finished is a bloody legend.
My thoughts exactly.
What a ride, Moscon! Bad luck happens. 🙁🙁 Respect.
MVDP and Colbrelli 👏👏 What a epic race!
I cannot remember being so drawn in and compelled by a bicycle race since the late 1990's TDF battles. It was a spectacular game of pure survival and human suffering. Chapeau Sonny. A race that will be shown to cycling fans long after we've all left our mortal coils.
Whenever i'm bored, i always end up coming back to watch the highlights or full race of this, truly epic
Lanterne Rouge, you're consistently giving great insight in cycling races. You've covered all the major events this season and I've watched your videos with great interest to get your insight in what happened during the race from start to finish, in the front as well as in the chasing groups and peloton.
Here in belgium, we're blessed with live transmission of the races with what probably is to be considered the best commentary duo in the world, Michel Wuyts and José de Cauwer (+ Christophe Vandegoor and Karl Berteele on the motor), yet in terms of summary post-race, you're doing a hell of a fine job! Please continue to share your views and insights on racing.
women's and men's races were epic viewing!!
This was one of the most legendary races I every witnessed. So so good! And great recap!
Images like ascended mineworkers seeing their first daylight in over a year. What a heroic battle this was. This one will go down in the history books for sure, glad to have watched the entire race.
Getting to the point of cycling fandom where you start to rewatch those races and reminisce over how you've witnessed cycling history in the making. The 2021 Paris-Roubaix will be hard to beat for a long time and it is definitely one of those races you'll tell your grand kids about. Already getting hyped for this year's classic season!
And here I am the year after, getting hyped again!
same, looking forward for this sunday's hell of the north!@@Hendiirk
Colbrelli simply raced it to perfection, start to finish. Perfect use of resources at hand.
Telling my buddies all day this was the best road race I've EVER WATCHED... all day.
I watched the last 80k live and my heart rate got close to 90 in the last km. Fantastic Race.
Even my non-cycling dad was glued to his seat!
Felt like mvdp could've played this so much better, he was in the front of the group constantly, should've forced other people to pull for him. He must've been gassed towards the end.
I think he thought he could completely break away and crack everyone.
@@phxrsx For sure, maybe he was thinking he could just choo choo his way and break off the front.
Not the smartest racing I've seen from him. Hopefully he'll learn.
IT WAS ABSOLUTE MADNESS! I was paying such close attention and still didn’t know what the fuck was going on 😂

@@paulsolon6229 What about it?
I was listening to his whole analysis, which I never understand but a picture is worth a thousand words. I always dig LR even if I can’t understand what he is saying. Maybe my Google translator could help.😂😂😂
Holy Shiiiiat!!! Been watching racing since the mid-80s and have to say that was one of the best races--EVER!!! Hands down, Colbrelli won the hearts and admiration of millions of fans this weekend and will always be known for P-R. Oh, and chapeau to Haussler for a top 10!
These guys are gladiators...a race the world needs at the moment
I think all participants in this race will remember this as a career highlight. Just to survive this race is monumental! The photos brilliant .
Sonny Colbrelli Congratulations! Amazing race.
Florian Veermersch you have a bright future
Mathieu Van der Poel we truly do not deserve you
J'espère revivre la même chose l'an prochain.
GREAT race, GREAT video! Thank You, Mr. Lanterne Rouge! After watching this incredible mud fest, I went in for a shower. Felt as though I was right there spitting dirt alongside the Gladiators. Another world. BEAUTIFUL!

probably one of the best seasons ever
If a rider had to choose between a victory at Paris - Roubaix and one at the World Championships, there would be no choice. They should print a picture of a cobblestone on the winner's jersey for one year.
Insane conditions for a roadbike race. It was almost cyclecross on those wet and muddy cobbled sections. Brave riders, tough mudders on bikes! Just to get to the end of that race makes you a champion in my eyes.
Now disc brakes could be justified for road bikes. If they would use them.
Perfect headline for this. I came looking for the entire race because it really is the most intense sporting event I've ever witnessed. Everyone should watch this race at least once in their lifetime to experience what the pinnacle of human competition feels like.
Best Roubaix ever both men and women. Great race and well deserved winner. Been keeping my eye on Sonny for a while and he has matured into a super allrounder imo . Very happy for him .
BEST. RACE. EVER.
This is why I love cycling. Not many sports reveal this much grit and determination... I want to ride now.
Best race I’ve watched
From the start it was flat out, so happy they show the full race these days
Moscon must of felt sick after that crash n mechanical.. he looked super strong before the crash 💥.. brilliant race none the less
Yeah, I was devistated for him. He looked nowhere near as comfortable or fast on his exchange bike. I wonder if it was a slightly different setup...
Can you breakdown Christophe Laporte foot braking action? Seems like a good off-season video :)
This was the moment I knew it was a crazy day. Crashes? Sure. Mud? Sure. Old-school footbrake technique while going 45km/h over cobbles? DAMN.
that was insane
I don't think he was braking. Probably clearing mud from his tire. Sometimes it packs in the frame because of less clearence when using bigger tires.
@@Roadbikerider79 he said in the end of race interview he had no brakes after his bike change
@@malomalo3872 good old disc brakes!
I agree so much with you. Honestly, if we have to wait 2 years and a half every time but every Paris-Roubaix is that good, I'm ready to sign anytime.
These highlights do this race justice!
That, my friends, is some damn good bike racing.
What a race! Modern gladiators. A squidgame !
Lol, I just watched that Netflix series this weekend. Thankfully this race wasn't as brutal as that. but I enjoyed the reference.
🤣
A Sunday in Hell need not be dry and hot! What . . . a . . . race!
Thank you Lantern Rouge for a nice summary and highlights. This will make my ride on Thursday seem quite easy.
After 2020 covid crisis .., in 2021, Italians are showing us the deeper meaning of... "RENAISSANCE"
🇮🇹BRAVO ITALIA🇮🇹 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This is my favourite race of all time. I was on the edge of my seat the entire race. The crashes were horrific and the battles were insane. The rain and mud added to the excitement. So many things happened in this race which made it exciting from the group chasing down Moscon and the sprint finish. I don’t think we’ll ever see another race like the 2021 Roubaix. ❤
It’s like combat riding. Great report, I appreciate your analysis
I hate my self for not having the oportunity to watch this live full lenght... omg, what an entertaining race must have been!
after such a hell of a race we just went crazy!!
all my deepest respect and affection for all the racers !!
nice video summary - thanks! love that finish reaction of Sonny :-) !!
A great presentation capturing the essence of the race in only 8 minutes.
Epic and intriguing race. Up with the classics from history.
I feel awful but often was is great for fans is horrendous for riders.
As soon as I saw it hammering it down the night before I knew this would be a legendary race but live up to its billing of hell for any of the riders.
As always a brilliant recap.
Nice one LR, looking forward to watching this highlight in future years! thanks for getting the rights as always
Simply the most incredible sporting event I have actually seen
I knew you'd be thrilled, your feelings about Colbrelli are well established. It was a fantastic race, maybe the best since Terpstra won.
Non, c'était fade, moi je dirais depuis Van Avermaet
What.a race indeed. Captivating to watch live, great recap summary. Warriors.
This is THE real race! Epic!
Colbrelli should buy MVDP a beer after that. Many good rides that race, but MVDP just grinding his way through the field on his way to the front was super impressive. Congratulations and well done to Colbrelli, and also to Vermeersch - truly awesome ride by the young Belgian. What a race.
At 6:03 PREACH! Thank you for saying that, I feel like Colbrelli has been disrespected too much after this incredible win.

An instantly classic Classic.
I think yesterdays race race matched what Paris-Roubaix is all about: a race originating from an ancient time, when people, society and life were rough. This race is about suffering, overcoming obstacles and giving just everything you have and maybe even more. Nowadays life and society are all about careful planing, maintaining control and minimizing risks. Days and events like this are the complete opposite and are among the last outstanding, nuts and adventures things we can witness. And that´s why we love Paris-Roubaix so much and appreciate how the riders performed.
Best race images I have ever seen!
That Rowe move just chaps my ass. Great race, great recap. I agree Sonny rode a strong and smart race.
What are you talking about ? Do you think he had any control whatsoever over his bike with a front wheel flat?
@@simonworsley8631 Flat or not, he suddenly rode perpendicular across the road right in front of an oncoming group, taking out a pre-race favorite and almost taking out MvdP. Similar to Kopecky the day before, and at least she was big enough to apologize.
@@simonworsley8631 exactly, when I get a flat driving my car, i just keep going... slow as hell, swerving across lanes... not my fault! The tire is flat!
@@texwallis Rowe responded saying he was trying to keep to the right but the wheel just went to the left, it wasn't deliberate. I guess you'd do better...
🤦🤦🤦no control, slow speed, over geared on cobbles, try it and see if you can keep it straight. Use canesten for your ass issues
This years Paris-Roubaix was beyond epic! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Colbrelli’s reaction upon winning was stunning...an incredibly emotional outburst like I’ve NEVER seen..🌹
Absolutely minging this race. Would hate to ride it, but it's great to watch!
You nailed it! The intercuts between still and video are a work of beauty. (Missed the dog barking from the podcast with Benji tho. 😉)
I recorded the race (and managed to avoided all media). I had to pause and watch it over two nights - it was TOO INTENSE. Legendary stuff.
Amazing race. Paris=Roubaix does it again.
5:10 Deflategate 2.0. 😂 Well done, sir, well done.
Colbrelli in form of his life. He was better than many climbers in TdF :) Well deserved win and what a win it is! :)
terra cotta army on bikes! what a race!
What a race that was. Bravo 🎊
Riders' backsides: a little muddy, still recognizable.
Riders from the front: "Lanterne Rouge wants you to find the difference between these two riders"
Viewers: "They're the same rider"
What a race!
brilliant, what a race indeed, outstanding
Iconic race!
i tried to watch the race after it had finished because in was asleep when it happened, but 6 hours recorded... no. after an hour or so i turned to your perfectly complete recap :) nice one
should have watched the whole race it was the best of the last 10 years
Such a fun race to watch.

Definitely not disappointed this weekend.
EXCELLENT presentation! Well-done in every-way. Gracie' ! liked/subbed
I was so tense the last 10km in anticipation of the finish.
Felt like a guaranteed Colbrelli win for the last 10km when MVDP carried on doing the bulk of the work, but there's always that crazy thought that MVDP is doing something "Amstel-Gold-esque" and is gonna pull for 60km and then win the sprint.
Awesome race, great coverage, thanks.
Favorite race of the year.

I watched the whole thing, it was great, and Sonny Colbrelli, crowned a great season, with a fine brilliant win. Florian Vermeesh was disapponted, but should have been really proud of his ride.
