I saw this in the theater in 1967 as a teenager and it was amazing! Thrilling! The first time I ever heard the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, and in an outdoor amphitheater.
So wonderful to have this. To see Bernstein riding up the Bab-El-Wad, rehearsing with the musicians, to see the late Gary Bertini whom I worked with and revered, to hear Netanya Davrat, and a bonus: to witness Daniel Oren as child prodigy. Thanks so much.
And fascinating footage of Leonard Bernstein conducting in Jerusalem after it was reunited. Insightful comments driving to the Lod Airport (as it was called then). That the Israelis were not triumphant, it was not a victory concert, but they were concerned with present day problems. Before he boards the plane, he is embraced and thanked by Yitzchak Rabin, and he in turn thanks Rabin and says, "It was a great honor." Kol Hakovod.
Incredible documentary! I live in Jerusalem and Mahler's second is my favorite symphony. I watch this all the time and especially on Independence and Jerusalem day. Thank you!
Wonderful documentary. They were truly great musicians but not only that they were amazing human beings who felt this responsibility to spread the love for music to the world in the most special place on earth. It is just heavenly to hear Issac stern" sound on the violin! If only politicians could learn from them, people could live in peace and harmony once they realize each one has the capability to connect to the universal and eternal energy through music. Intelligent chromosomes creating combinations of sound waves in certain order through which they connect themselves to the universe. That is a beautiful feeling that everyone deserves to feel as a human being.
This was the summer after the '67 war, the famous Six Day War, when people who had never been to Israel, were able to go. Like our principal Rabbi Diskind - he came back simply aglow, and a banner in the auditorium attributing the miractulous victory not to man's might, but to God's purpose. Bernstein's film was memorable and I have always remembered - this was my first experience of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto! I remember the famous yearning theme that so fascinated me. I went with my parents to a neighborhood movie theater. First experience of great music. And Bernstein had what to say, he was affected personally by this experience. Fascinating Hebrew subtitles. He also spoke in his music.
"The Palestinian people" hadn't yet discovered themselves at that point. The random Arab immigrants living in Israel were still assuming all the Arab states would soon erase Israel via invasion & ethnic cleansing, and absorb its territory. Only when it became clear that was not gonna happen did those Arabs gradually "realize" they're a distinct people-and the Jews had stolen their ancient homeland! Possibly the world's most successful mass delusion-but not so successful that you dishonest losers are getting what you want: a judenrein middle east.
איזה חוויה מרגשת לצפות במסע הזה. מדהים!

Everyone was thrilled by the reuniting of Jerusalem after the Six Day War. Not a dissenting voice - then.
Anyone knows who is the kid that things for Leonard Bernstein and Isaac Stern? Around the 32nd minute.

LB talks about Arabs - 38:15.
Disappointing to see him spout such ignorance. He was unfortunately brainwashed by Zio propaganda, no doubt about that.
At that time their was no TV in Israel.
God protect Israel 🇮🇱. ❤
They sing their hymn with the weapons. Stop the war in Gaza! Two states in brotherhood!
The war can be stopped today if the hostages are freed.
Free Palestine!
did you watch? likely not. Who controled the west bank in 1967?
