    I am so impressed with the quality of your advice and the insight into your own experiences is so comforting. I've been in counselling for years for pretty debilitating generalised anxiety and everything you mention in this video is so accurate and EVIDENCE BASED! The most important thing I've learnt is that the goal isn't to REMOVE your anxiety, it's to be comfortable WITH your anxiety (don't fight or fix it, just accept it). Once you accept that it's ok that it's there and might always be there, you find this overwhelming peace with yourself ❤

    The core values part really clicked with me; I know I’ve been avoiding certain things out of fear, when I know I should do them bc they align with my values. CBT really is so helpful!

    I’m a therapist and just have to say- you did such a good job describing anxiety and the skills to manage it! I’m seriously taking notes to help my clients! Many of these are things I do with clients but you said it all in such a digestible way, it is so helpful. This is going to help so many people!

    I started taking SSRIs because I was losing my mind last year after getting burglarized. The state of the world didn’t help either. I immediately found relief once I started meds and am so glad I got on them! For reference, I was doing all the things: meditating, journaling, affirmations, therapy, etc. etc. beforehand.
    Posting this to let you know it’s ok if you get on meds if you think you need them!

    • @tqdm4243
      @tqdm4243 2 года назад +1

      Yep couldn’t agree more! It was not until I started taking SSRIs that I started feeling better. Sometimes you just need an extra push!

    I suffer from a lot of health anxiety, too. I dont even wanna write out what Im worried about because it could give someone else a new health issue they could think about. What helps me the most is also the "ignoring" method. And I get better at it every time🤗
    Thank you for all the other great tipps! They will come in handy

  • @signe2703
    @signe2703 2 года назад +33

    With regards to the medication it's also really important to note, that it generally doesn't fix the underlying problem. The purpose of taking SSRI's is in most cases to make you stable enough to be able to do what you've done - working on your maladaptive mental patterns.

    Optic/ocular migraines, no headache involved, just vision, very real, literally brought on stress, can be one eye or both eyes. Usually can resolve on its own within 30 mins, quiet environment, ice pack.
    I have suffered from anxiety and depression for years. I get these
    I pray😉
    And great video, loved the word game!

    This was actually really helpful. I don’t have severe anxiety, but it does mess with my everyday life. I think I’ve learned to accept it, because when I do, afterwards it’s always good again. It’s frustrating because it is like a cycle and can be difficult for others to do.

    I literally had a heart to heart with my mom discussing this exact topic last night. Anxiety is very present in my family and she was being so judgmental about the “weird” behaviors of my cousin and me and my sister and my niece and nephew and aunt and I had to literally break it down for her: we all struggle with anxiety and depression, this is why she doesn’t shower or he can’t be alone or she panics when she leaves her house or I wear lose tops (I feel constricted like I’m choking in tight fitting clothes) and we are all just learning how to manage our triggers so we can function out in the world, sometimes we have to be accommodating to each other’s needs and judging them isn’t helpful, what’s helpful is understanding where they are coming from and giving them the space and support they need to get through it. It was like I could literally see the lightbulb turn on in her head like it had literally never occurred to her that people could possibly struggling with mental health. I can tell this sunk in because later she brought it up and was asking about other things she observed and I was like yes, now that we know what it can look like it’s not our place to intervene and go tell them that they are being “weird”, it’s our place to be supportive of their needs so they can learn manage their mental health without judgment and her face was like 🤯

    another inspiring talk from big sis jenn 🧡🧡 I never really wanted to take a look at my own anxiety level bc I always felt like it was downplaying people who have it much worse than me. I think after this video it made me feel more comfortable accepting that everyone has their own anxieties & the important thing is to seek the right help/resources and not let it take over your life. Hi Jenn, last year i had a cold sore outbreak on my lip that turned into an entire bacterial infection that spread across my lips. i had never experienced something like this nor had i ever had a cold sore in my life. with covid, no doctors were seeing patients in person so i had to wait weeks before being seen and weeks again for seeing a dermatologist. i went to 3 dermatologists before i was properly swabbed and given the right medication. even a year later my lips are healing.. when you talked about riding the anxiety out it really resonated with me because ive had to train and tell myself over and over that 'it will pass' and that our bodies have an immune system designed to fight off diseases, and have to also constantly remind myself to trust the process. thank you for sharing your story

    Hi Jenn! I absolutely felt emotionally safe in this video. To anyone reading(including myself) no matter what we see, do, hear, we’re all going to figure out what connects with us to believe in something. So at the end of the day I think it’s like this: a person who eats and stresses about wanting to eat healthy can be more unhealthy than the person who eats unhealthy simply because they don’t stress about it. Anxiety, stress is truly a killer of everything. Just try to go on with your day and you’re going to be great. Easier said than done of course, but I believe in you, you can do it!! Keep tricking your mind and saying this

    I’m a mental health therapist and only have a bare minimum of training in CBT and this was so helpful and educational to me! It sounds like you have a very knowledgable therapist and I’m so happy to see how far you’ve come in managing your symptoms. I had a period of extreme anxiety myself upon moving to the UK from the US, and experienced shooting nerve pain behind my eye, as well as tingling on my scalp. I saw opthalmologists and had MRIs and they came back normal. It’s crazy what anxiety can cause our bodies to do! ❤️

    at 6:30, "don't fall in the trap of doing what the anxiety monster says. it provides you temporary relief but you're not letting anxiety run its course. This trains your brain that you can tolerate a full anxiety cycle." - this perfectly explains how my anxiety absolutely dissipated / got obliterated after my Vipassana course.
    I had to go through anxiety and anger cycles on my own through meditation in silence with no tech, no conversing.. super hardcore way to learn how to get through an anxiety cycle. I'm saying this 3 months after coming back home from Vipassana. Crazy!

It was a smaller setting, during COVID (so even smaller) which was so nice because I had more one-on-one time with the teacher. After you complete the 10-day course, you can attend 1 day sits, 30 day sits, 40 day sits and volunteer! I loved my experience and would go every year to sit and volunteer when I can

    As a therapist, I love that you're making psychoeducation about therapy, CBT, and anxiety so approachable + accessible to your wide audience mixed in with our own personal experience, Jenn! :)
    I love that your therapist introduced you to ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)! I love that it focuses more on identifying your values and enacting behaviors that are aligned with those values, giving less power to those anxious thoughts. Every time we don't let the anxious thoughts win, we're reinforcing our own sense of agency that we can let the anxious thoughts pass the next time without it getting a reaction from us. It is one of the primary modalities I use with my own clients at the cancer center I work at!
    Thanks for always keepin' it real, Jenn! :)

    Jenn, thank you so so much for sharing this. I have anxiety and have been becoming a hypochondriac because of it (among other things lol). Two years ago I got food poisoning and for the last two years I have been so afraid of it happening again to the point that I don't like to eat out often anymore or if I do, I make myself sick worrying if I'm going to get sick! Even if I cook at home and thoroughly cook everything or over cook everything, I worry about maybe cross contamination of something outside of my control making me sick. And recently I found out I have deposits in my eyes that are present in people who develop macular degeneration. So I had been so so afraid about my eye health and have been hyper sensitive to eye floaters and eye pressure and things like that. So I really appreciate you making this video and sharing your anxieties because I don't feel so crazy! I really appreciate all your tips and taking the time to explain things are sharing what you learned from your therapist. I feel like I'm not alone and now I have some resources that I didn't have before so thank you!
