I saw this guy on a random night at a NYC comedy club. Probably a crowd of 30? And only me and one other woman were laughing. And the more he went on and no one else laughed, the more we were in tears at how put off everyone else was. Gave us a friendly nod when he was done, and shook his hand after. Comedic genius

it might be a midwest thing? Like I think a big part of why I think Joe is funny/endearing is because he reminds me of my grandpa and like silly old but lovable goofy simple dudes. If I didn’t have the context of the other people like Joe I might not feel comfortable laughing at him.

In the vein of early Zach, current Maria Bamford, and so many others in different shades. It wasn’t the ice itself. It was a metaphor to appreciate what you have, whether it’s old friends and cube tray wasn’t filled properly, or new relationships and despite being kicked in the face, or not having the temperature regulation how you prefer it, that your partner should want to be there for you with that ice when you’re having a hard time, much like any problem.
The ice cube at the end was a reminder that we don’t appreciate what we have right in front of us. And I think everyone really got that message with that outro, which brought me to tears as well.

This was truly wonderful, you should be proud of yourself as much as we're all proud of you

Joe, thank you. I sobbed and laughed through the last 20 minutes of your act. I thought about those nights holding her, the times spent growing up with my grandfather, the nights on the pond in the middle of summer, and so much more. Thank you for bringing me back to those places. I appreciate you.

I've watched this a few times now and I'm still amazed by the positive atmosphere Joe cultivates. He is hilarious, but also just has really good vibes.

i think some credit has to go to the sound mixers too, the sounds of the audience laughter feels really warm and close.

Look at all those people touching the ice. Germs be damned, this sort of thing brings people from all cultures, colors, and walks of life together. Holy smokes. I never thought I would feel this way after watching a comedy special. You’re something else, Joe. I hope to see you live someday.

The way Joe handled the cellphone ringing and rolled into that heavy hitter was outstanding
