When the filming was going on Sheen decided he was going to act at all out as if they were a couple and David Tennant was more than happy to go along with that idea. In fact back 30 years ago when the books were published wealth shortly after people began shipping them referring to the man as Ineffable Husbands. Even Neil Gaiman has been aware of that and is OK with it. And actually in one interview Sheen stated that what they had was neither an erotic, romantic, or platonic relationship but instead was moreover a mix of all. In his words they are human so labels don't apply to them..
Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman wrote a book together. How could it not be an absolute masterpiece? Turning it into a movie or series took forever though. Pratchett died a few years back, and things finally came together as a bit of tribute to him. Pretty much everyone involved are huge fans. Gaiman wrote the screenplay, but most of the really funny stuff is very Pratchett and straight from the book. IIRC, they always refused to say who wrote what parts of the book, and just said they would alternate drafts and everything was rewritten so many times they couldn't remember who came up with what.
