I remember being on guard at the Tower of London in the late 1980's. I was patrolling along Water Lane early hours of the morning and stopped by the archway of the Bloody Tower, looking up at the windows of St. Thomas' Tower. I saw the figure of a woman in white, wearing a bonnet on her head, gliding from right to left. Surprisingly, it wasn't scary. I think once you have patrolled Windsor Castle of a night on your own for the first time nothing phases you

My father was stationed at the Tower of London as a young soldier in the late 1940s, he said it was the scariest place on earth! This was in the days before the sodium lights of modern times and London was a much quieter place than today.

Hi Louise and thank you for your comment. I can imagine that in the cold light of day with tourists about, the Tower is quite welcoming, but as your father suggests it might take on a completely different feel at night or when you’re on your own. Best wishes GC 👻🙏

  • @LanceHarding

My uncle was a Yeoman Warder all through the 1970s until he retired. He told me, the only ghostly experience he had in all the years he lived & worked there, was, one night his wife Auntie Janet woke him up. He went into the Tower grounds where he met a soldier with a fixed bayonet. He said to the soldier,’what is going on, ‘ we do not know Sir, something is going on in the White Tower’. When they got to the White Tower, they heard chanting, looked in the window & saw a ring of monks wearing habits with hoods up in a circle walking & chanting. Uncle Den said,’ give me the key, I’ll get those buggers out of there’. When he put the key in the door & unlocked it, when the door was opened, it was all in darkness where previously the lights were on & they had just disappeared.

@@ghostcasebook1266 you are most welcome, keep up the GREAT work here, just Love History. Another experience Uncle Den had was one weekend. On a friday evening before going off shift, he would check the roster who was on the next day then sign it, then went back to their casemates accomodation. The Saturday morning he went out at 5.30am for a leisurely stroll around the Tower grounds. When he got up to where Traitors Gate is, there was a mist coming off of the Thames, where he saw a Woman wearing Tudor clothing with a ruff round her neck. Uncle Den rubbed his eyes & said to himself,'that look's like Anne Boleyn, ah it cannot be'. When he got further along, there was a film company filming, what he had not seen, on the back of the roster the friday night, was the details saying about the film company being there. This may sound like just fiction to other viewers, but, it is written here as he told me pure Fact.

I know that the Beefeaters have to go through a vigorous test to become one. They take the positions very seriously. I bet there are a lot more tales of sightings. You have just scratched the surface. Imagine how many tales have not been told in fear of ridicule. Keep digging. Love your work. ❤️🇦🇺

Went to the Tower of London September 2008. My sister was working at New Zealand House at the time and I will never understand how she managed to push me in a wheelchair over cobblestones. I can walk, it just made it quicker. Spoke to a Beefeater, saw the Crown Jewels. Was fully aware of the ghostly history but did not have any encounters. The gunpowder tour was a hoot; the guide asked me if I knew when England first used gunpowder as she had no idea and I was able to answer her. My sister was nearly on the floor laughing. Great work on the video.

I don't see how it's possible for a building of such an age, & with such a bloody history full of horrific deaths, to not have an atmosphere of foreboding & unease. Those terrible historic events that replay throughout time, are witnessed by those unexpecting, & fearful albeit to them.

L have always been intrigued by the possibility of ghosts. I even experienced what some would call poltergeist activity while growing up. It does make me sad to think some souls never find peace and especially when talking about the ghosts of children. IMO, if there is a god and he allows for the tortured spirits of children, he isn’t a benevolent, kind god at all.

I'm from the States and love British history. It is the history of Western Civilization and can't be over stated the influence it has had. When I see the English culture being attracted and it's people excepting non Western ideas, I see the end of what has made it a great country. It's own people are losing their Englishness. We in the States are under attack as well and we feel it's internal and purposeful. Drugs and Violence has been allowed and our moral are evaporating.

I’m from the UK and I do accept that our English culture is under attack, especially in big cities like London. However if you go out into the Countryside believe me our English culture is “Alive and Kicking”. ❤

Hi Jayne, the transition from ER II to KC III is gradual. At present the UK postage stamps still have Queen Elizabeth II image on them, and stamps with King Charles III will be available to pre order next week and will go into circulation nearer the coronation. In time the uniforms will change.
