!7:14 "What you're gonna do is get your mommy face on before you talk to her" is the best advice the police officer could have given. And it's sadly most likely an advice based on experience from the officer...
And some seconds later, the fact that she (the poor girl) has strenght to scream in pain is somewaht positive, believe or not. If something poitentionally painful has to be done and the patient has little or no reaction, it could be even worse injuries that previously thought
Dr Des is such a caring tender doctor. Some doctors act like taking the time to be human is beneath them. But Dr. Des acts like he is just being natural and. Humane. Nice to see.
It's so, so tough to see a child in distress like that. But man, she was lucky, really, that could have been so much worse. Fantastic to see she made a full and relatively speedy recovery.
Right? She had life threatening injuries for sure! 12 days in the hospital probably felt like a lifetime. I was in for 14 days once, and my mom was in for 8 recently. We both felt like it was an eternity!
Thanks for easing my watching. I didn't think they'd include an example that's a really tragic outcome. Even though was a nurse, I prefer not seeing child tragedies
Those screams from Jade at 17:35 had my heart breaking for her and her mum. It's not easy going through that, nor is it easy to watch your child go through that.
Des is a phenomenal doctor!! He is completely right about the parents of an ill child. Keep them honestly in the loop, let them comfort their child. I bet he is also a great doctor to work with.
I feel for the guy with the broken ankle. Because of his history of drug addiction, he probably has a much higher tolerance for pain killers than most people. And the doctors likely can’t give him stronger drugs than the laughing gas (and his usual methadone) to prevent any relapse of the drug dependence. Hope he’s doing well wherever he is now.
Bedside manners with doctors and nurses makes such a difference for stress levels in hospitals! I was in hospital for a week after surgery a couple of years ago and I had to ask for a particular kind of specialist. As soon as they came along I asked them if they knew my doctor. It turns out they went to Uni together. I asked if he had the same sense of humour as my doctor and he told me jokes from when they were younger. I said, "Alright. You're ok. I will let you be my doctor today." He had me laughing when I was in a lot of pain and distressed. He also prescribed treatment that made me feel better.
I'm glad they were all ok in the end. My heart went out to Jade and her family. I have an 11 year old granddaughter and I can't imagine having to go through something like that with her! 🙏🙏🙏
Dr. Des is great! I’m in the U.S. and I literally waited for seven hours to be seen June of 2021. ( pancreatitis and possible PE)Sometimes I wonder about our healthcare system.
Girl! I had pancreatitis and was placed in ER stockroom on a gurney for around 12 hours. They forgot about me lol! all that I could figure out. Oh but did I mention they gave me one pill for pain during triage. One. I was bent over in pain plus I had been vomiting out in the waiting room. I don't remember if they gave me something for the nausea or not. So there I lay in the stockroom lights off, door open and having to take my own prescription pain meds from my purse and my husband kept reminding them I had not been seen by a doctor yet. Oh lawrdy! Not a fun 12 hours. And this was the same hospital I worked at,hello? I had BCBS insurance at the time so if I left AMA the insurance covered nothing. So I was stuck. My poor husband spent all those hours sitting in a plastic chair. In the end I don't know which of us felt the worst. And I'm sure sympathetic for you. Pancreatitis hurts and I'm so very thankful you didn't have a PE.
The American health care system is broken. For a super power, it is kind of sad. You can’t really say there is universal health care in America. Just for the rich. I’m an American but I live in Japan. We have a wonderful health care system here.
@@Pammellam America has a poverty problem with 59% of incomes paying taxes with 40 million in poverty. Many get paid to not work and those that do still are on government dole. You want America to get better health coverage, they need to stop being Europe & SE Asia's military force. Sure would free up a lot of money.
I am also in the US, we emigrated to the US, from Scotland when I was a child. My extended family still lives there. I am a RN and I have never seen more competent, compassionate doctors and nurses than the ones featured in 24 Hours in A & E. The kindness is just amazing.
Not gonna lie, I thought Jade wouldn’t make it because the way her mom spoke about her only in past terms, so I got really relieved when I heard her voice
I'm just amazed how the medical staff offers the patients pain medicine. In the US, we get treated like drug addicts if we ask for anything. And they certainly don't offer it!
I’ve never had problems getting pain meds in the US hospitals I’ve been to. When I broke my ankle, broke my shoulder, had large complete tear in my rotator cuff, broken foot, and had an obstructed bile duct they asked me if I needed something for pain. Guess you’ve been to the wrong hospitals.
Most county hospitals & Kaiser were the Worst! Hospitals I’ve been in, but my life has been saved a few times, but it’s hard to count how many stitches & times I’ve been there.
How very sweet.....I'm afraid I'd be as useful in the situation as the panicked parent. I can't BEAR to see hurt kids....Thank Gods you can work through it. Thank you for being so kind!
I feel for Jade. I was hit by a pickup truck in the 80’s when I was 8 years old but I was lucky to have very minor injuries and didn’t need to be admitted. Jade is fortunate that she wasn’t killed by the car and the bus. A bigger adult probably wouldn’t have survived because there wouldn’t be as much space under these vehicles. Her poor mother is blaming herself when it’s not her fault and her child would never think it was either.
18:51 I struggled not to cry jade is so brave and so strong. I really feel for her family at that time how hard would that phone call of been to receive 😢 so sad 😞
Des is lovely. And he has a compelling face - cameras LOVE him. His expressions remind me of my tortoise Clarissa, who is a terribly handsome young lady!
Funny story - I swallowed an actual nail over an inch long when I was one and somehow indicated it to my parents. I have no recollection but my parents swear to it. The doctors were close to doing an exploratory surgery to try to recover it, but as I wasn't showing any discomfort they decided to give it a little time to pass, and miraculously it did. I still have the nail 😁
same for me but with an earing because I had a weird dream were my father was putting jewels or necklace or earings in his mouths ( or was it a dream i'll never know lol )
When I was a girl I noticed that my cat had a piece of thread in his mouth, so I pulled it . . . and pulled it . . . and pulled it . . . and at the end there was a needle. Somehow he'd managed to swallow it and I managed to extract it without any injury. Seriously weird. He lived to a ripe old age.
They are getting blood during an IV start so they are bigger…pink is 20 gauge and green is 18 gauge. A normal butterfly or blood draw needle is 23 gauge and 22 gauge which are smaller.
The doctor was fantastic as were most of the staff. The one nurse who said no and walked away seemed to be too 45:49 judgmental to be a true carer. Sad, but there is at least one in every medical setting. But kudos to the staff generally. I love how a cuppa seems to make the world right.
I don't know that little girl that got ran over, but she looked so miserable that I just wanted to switch places with her to take all the pain away... Poor little thing...
That nurse who briefly answered the question to the man on parole was apathetic and dismissive. While he may well have been a pain and annoying, in the context we were shown, she was a cow.
100% agree she didn’t even listen to him just said no. He could’ve easily lost circulation that way. The other nurse immediately tried to find a way to get it for because of course ankle monitors can be cut off for medical reasons. Nurses are not suppose to judge

They are so kind there ! I feel disprected , rushed here .. your lucky to get two seconds with a dr, let alone caring for the family .. i dont blame them its just the rush of health care in the usa i guess
How lovely too is that policeman trying to keep Jade's mum calm, he's so compassionate realizing she's on the verge of losing it.
The Constables face such situations every time they are disoatched to major traffic collisions

Des is the ER doctor that should be in every ER, he understands the intensity of the trauma, addresses the problem, and showed concern for parents.
Des is the kinda doctor that you need looking out for you
He’s a very sweet and kind doctor.
He is i love him so much 😁😄😍@@moni1950412
I agree, he' wonderful.
Yes, Dr Des is what all Doctors should strive to be!

Des's bedside manner is that of a Saint. We need more Dr.s like him❤❤❤
Dr. Des is such a compassionate, kind and gentle man. He is the kind of doctor that should be in every hospital. Wow.
Des is a kind and gentle, Doctor.
Now that's a great idea! Having new clothes at the hospital for patients that had everything cut off! Brilliant!
Most hospitals take clothing donations
It's really hard to find this kind of compassion from our doctors and nurses here in the U.S. It's a crying shame!
The U.S. system is based on profit, not compassion.
Isn’t Jade adorable, that poor little girl what she went through and her poor mom. That officer was so good to her. 🥰🩷
Dr. Des sure is a gem!!🥰
Absolutely beautiful child ❤
I like Dr Des. He’s compassionate, kind, and calm
Why are all doctors not like this doctor? He’s amazing.
Des is a phenomenal doctor!! He is completely right about the parents of an ill child. Keep them honestly in the loop, let them comfort their child. I bet he is also a great doctor to work with.
Dr. Des. is marvelous. I can only hope my child or myself would have such a kind doctor should I need
Dr Des is amazing! 💛 So many doctors don’t have any empathy! Unfortunately can’t be taught!
I feel for the guy with the broken ankle. Because of his history of drug addiction, he probably has a much higher tolerance for pain killers than most people. Des is the most wonderful doctor, he’s so kind to his patients and their families, all doctors need to take lessons from him. ❤
Des is such a lovely person who deserves to be in the hospital with an amazing team of doctors and nurses and the way he treats people is beyond words
so glad to have got something new. There are so many repeats.
Especially when you’re trying to learn from these things, hard to find good material to study when it comes to trauma that isn’t another textbook
Watch Situation Critical. Extremely graphic and not really blurred out. These are extreme traumas.@@reddbendd
God love her in all the pain, and she asked for water and still said please. Wow, I'm in awe
I am so impressed with the care this hospital gives these patients and the way you treat the family.
Wow such different approaches to the guy with the ankle bracelet.
The one who said flat out “no” to cutting it off has me so angry. As healthcare providers, it’s not your place to judge, only provide care.

Jade’s grandad sounds like the type of man whose family you don’t mess with 😳
A parents very worst nightmare. May the Lord heal sweet little Jade❤ and grant peace to her Mum and granddad.
The doctors healed her.
I love this doctor. What a caring human being. You don't always get doctors like this, especially in stressful situations.
It's such a good Doctor and that little girl. She was so brave and I'm so glad she is okay. She's so pretty
Riding a Segway in the hospital. Brilliant. My feet would ache so bad after working 12.5-16 hour shifts at the hospitals.
My mom's dr rode a Segway in the hospital. He was in his upper 70's and I busted out laughing first time I saw it!
So happy to hear Jade is doing well! Geraldine is such a sweet and fun loving woman 😊
That poor child, jade and your mother and family my heart goes out to you. And little Linus is the cutest ❤
If only all ER docs could be as kind and patience as this ER doc that’s on this show.
Dr Des is a very wonderful dr and man.
Poor Jade! Thank goodness she's got a loving family and great doctors.
What a great hospital, staff, officers and doctor! Keeping all of them in my prayers. They see some nasty stuff every day, bless them all ❤
I'm glad they were all ok in the end. My heart went out to Jade and her family. I have an 11 year old granddaughter and I can't imagine having to go through something like that with her! 🙏🙏🙏

Good morning Banijay, and everyone ❤️🙂⚘️🏥.
That doctor was so kind
Very happy jade survived her injuries and was able to go back to school in 4 weeks
My brother's friend was also run over by a bus at the age of 11, he did not make it.
I am glad that Jade made a recovery

I felt so sad for Jade’s mom 😢

I’ve watched a number of these shows, they show treating alcoholics but not drug overdoses either.
The last time I asked for pain medication my PC made me take a blood test first.
Most county hospitals & Kaiser were the Worst! Hospitals I’ve been in, but my life has been saved a few times, but it’s hard to count how many stitches & times I’ve been there.
Anyone who asks is treated like a drug addict. Notice the complete sh$t care this methadone patient gets due to tell them and his ankle monitor
How very sweet.....I'm afraid I'd be as useful in the situation as the panicked parent. I can't BEAR to see hurt kids....Thank Gods you can work through it. Thank you for being so kind!
Dr. Des is amazing, in every way, God bless em.❤
Jade has such a wonderful family surrounding her❤
Des is an angel
This has been a very touching account of a shift at Kings College Hospital.
Great staff
❤Des❤ what a ⭐️Star⭐️
What a lovely lovely doctor.
What an Amazing Dr who goes above and beyond
Love these old episodes. They are less sentimental
I wish we had this Dr. In the U S.
Ow girls! Get down on your knees and thank God , for His Angel’s were taking care, of the young & elders. I’m so happy for you !

That poor girl, her bloodied face actually broke my heart when they took the cone off omg
Amazing doctor.
That nurse that came in and said no. She needs to get another job. She has no compassion for people
That nurse was so rude to the man that had the ankle monitor. Terrible bedside manner
Exactly, was so short and didn’t even listen to him I’m glad the other nurses did
Well for all she knew he was a murderer let loose with an ankle bracelet and her personal history made her wary of such men. She was curt but polite .
