Both this players are top 30 in the world, I think y'all should think before saying something about their "horrible" technique or about their backhands.. geez
Well, you can make it work if you can generate that much on a low ball with the flick of wrist, probably more efficient than taking a full swing from at that point. Sock has a really poweful forehand though, even by professional standards.
i actually love that shot. looks so fun to hit. huge topspin flick on a low ball, on a running inside-out forehand. turned what would be a defensive shot into a heavy one. his arm does finish a bit low on the follow through though ey
To get an idea of how hard they are serving (and they are not serving at full power here) have a look at how far up the back fence the ball hits on an ace. Sock at 10:00 and kyrgios at 7:21 See if you can do that at your local club!
Kyrgios is really talented and quite consistent on both sides! He has a great serv and strong shots! That gu can defintely be number one in the near future!
@@marcelomilani9706 it's true but he made a wimbledon final against Djokovic which is definitely not nothing! Back then it was impossible to know that he would be the kind of player to only play half of the season.
I stumbled into this practice before I knew of Kyrgios when they were just hitting groundstrokes and remember thinking how ridiculous their shot speed and spin was. This video doesn't show you how impressive the shot quality is only an in-person viewing can.
I don’t think the other pros were that impressed with the shot speed and spin. Sock dropped so far back in the rankings he doesn’t direct qualify into ATP level singles any longer and Kyrgios once got to a QF of a Major, a long time ago.
@@wexelbrighten5196 That does not mean that their shots are less than awesome. At this level there are a million reasons why you cannot rise to the tip-top. Sock soon thereafter was No. 8 dude. EIGHT. Nick was #13 in Oct. 2016 so let's not let the facts get in the way of a good story.
for the price of having a wrist action like kyrgios and sock, you are going to shorten your tennis career as you get older or just have a ton of injuries.
I don't get how you injure your wrist... the forehand is supposed to be the most easy shot, for the wrist, in the game. You put the racquet in some variant of the pat the dog position and you pull. No strain required. Having a Western forehand my self, the parts of the arm that are used most frequently are the elbow and shoulder. They drop the racquet and allow most of the racquet head speed to be made. Of course this means that there has to be massive core rotation if you are shorter. However if you are above 190 and have wings, you should be find having less core and more arm.
The way that delpo hits is more similar to federer and nadal, who both use a straight arm forehand with an eastern to semi-western grip. Its a lot easier to torque your wrist that way because of the extreme wrist lag.
If you think about it, these two have pretty similar games. Both have forehands with lots of topspin, pretty subpar backhands that are flat, and good serves. It's interesting.
That's exactly right. And he's usually making enough money to take care of himself so hey yah we need more people like him in the sport I say. And a definitely force to reckon with in dubs.
Sock's forehand looks awful but if you know how to execute the groundstroke, it becomes really lethal because of the fact that it exerts less and you're able to rebound a little bit faster.
??? The disadvantage of his forehand is how much more effort and athleticism it takes. The advantage is that once you get used to the weirdness of twisting your arm like that it's actually technically less difficult.
Yeah, Kyrgios is very entertaining (his forehand is a joy to watch), he can develop to become the best player in the world for sure but it just doesn't look like it. It's just the evolution of the game: tall, big hitters that can move decently with solid groundstrokes.
Interesting the way that, in preparation, his wrist is turned in toward his forearm (same as Kyrgios). Whereas if you watch Wawrinka or Djokovic the wrist is turned back away from the forearm. But same result: massive topspin. I assume it has something to do with the age at which you learn and the strength of your wrist at that time. Wawrinka started at 11.
Yep, there are too many full westerns on tour. I would say that 85-90% of the players use Semi-Western. Having Easterns and Westerns does add for a little variety.
