Was looking forward to this! Dream type of ride and incredible effort, thanks for putting such a great video together. Can’t imagine tackling Melin y Coed so deep into a ride, I’d have been walking! It’s also brilliant to see you taking on these challenges together as I’m sure it adds an extra level of motivation/fun to the suffering. That event sounds pretty great too 😆 although it might be tough to tolerate my excessively slow descending! These videos really make me appreciate the crazy roads we have in Wales - thanks again for sharing!
Thank you Illi! I'm glad you enjoyed it, I'm hoping you have footage from your crazy ride at the weekend too? Melin-y-Coed was definitely something else when that fatigued... Pure stubbornness got me up it I think. You're the only person who's said anything positive about that event idea so far but maybe it'll gain some traction, a nice slow descent for recovery sounds ideal. But if you fancy trying any of these climbs with some company I could challenge myself to seeing if I could hold your wheel for more than a minute 😂 I'm sure you'd like Eglwysbach
@@nickbrownbill3413 Definitely need to plan another trip North - looks like a great cluster around Eglwysbach! Unfortunately my Fly6 died and my commentary abilities are too weak to string the surviving footage into anything worth watching but I wrote a boring 'blog' thing with a few clips instead. It was just a little spin compared to this though haha!
Cheers Scott! Can you believe my Dad didn't take the chance to sit in the pub at the end? Was thinking of you telling me there's no point ending a ride like this at the pub because you wouldn't do any of the climbs first 😂
Thanks Phill! Yeah that is an absolutely ridiculous piece of road... in a way it was a blessing to do it so late so it didn't kill my legs for the rest of the ride. Thankfully the consultant was pretty laid back - he thinks I'm actually getting better just slowly and I don't realise it, so he's told me to keep riding, taking anti-inflammatories and maybe just take it a touch easier for a few more weeks, and hopefully it'll pass. Much more positive than I was expecting :)
@nickbrownbill3413 potentially...if I can do one a day for 2 months 😂😂 I'm hoping I can be better for when you visit the cotswolds in September. I'll get some long rides in but it's dependant on the ultrasound on my shoulder
Lol, I'd only get to 10% of each climb :) I'd do better if we did a downhill version of it, so race downhill, and easy uphill 🤣 Although that is more on alpine climbs and good quality roads, not on those gravel paths you ride on :) 29:26 5k at steady 6-8%, that sounds like my sort of climb... Your dad is an absolute trooper. You are lucky to have such a role model. Well done Paul for getting as far as you did. In Nick's own words, this was stupid hard, and younger and stronger men would've failed long before you did. All in all, loved the video. I'm a bit late watching it, as I needed to make time to watch it fully.
I did think that might not be so fun for anyone! The premise sort of relies on similar hill climbing levels within the group I suppose. Haha I've absolutely no doubt I'd be finishing last on any downhill version regardless of the road surface 😂 I was thinking of you as I went up that climb, lovely road surface and steady (but tough) gradient, with stunning views. Its a great climb for sane people! www.strava.com/segments/7184588 Thank you for your kind words both about the video and my Dad. A proud day for both of us finishing that I think. No worries for taking your time to watch it of course, video has done terribly because I suspect many people took the same approach or found it too long which I totally get but for my own benefit I wanted to keep it well represented :)

Kudos Nick and Nicks Dad. That’s an unbelievable ride 😲👍

Absolutely unbelievable, the pair of you. Well done.
Thank you David! Much appreciated
Simply insane ! The ultra km on Melana Coed would have seen most of us off fresh ! Congratulations - and hoping you don’t need 2-3months off 🤞

One of, if not, the best intros of your videos. What an acting performances from both you and dad!
Haha thanks Mick 😂 I thought GCN have a lot more viewers than me, maybe a scripted cringy intro is what the people want!
The road surfaces from minute 7 made my pelvis refracture again...jeez 😂😂 great video mate
😂 I'd promised my Dad "they're all pretty good actually" then like an hour in I was proven to be an absolute liar... Thanks Kial!
@nickbrownbill3413 honestly, 90% of them roads left me wondering how I would have stayed upright 😂
@@kialjackson6593Nonsense. You're KFJ! Conquerer of Bushcombe lane, you'd smash these through sheer determination if you put your mind to it 😍

😊😊very nice nick! And your long serving dad 💪👍💪
Thank you Piglet! It was a great day out, now that it's long enough ago that I've forgotten how bleak the last couple of hours in the rain were 😂

Haha it was a bit up and down for us too 😂
Just trying to work out the flavour of that energy bar 😂 il keep watching see if i find out 😂
