The regular guy is so right in many things, that's why I follow this personality guy. End of this year, I will follow his steps and go on an investment visa to the Philippines. Learned a lot from him...
Scotty hang in there honey. There are plenty of mean spirited vloggers that have no agendas other than trashing their fellow humans. Love your videos. Love your personality. Keep being you. ❤
If he didn't talk like the women there were supposed to be used, I could appreciate some of what he brings. I wouldn't know of Malaybalay if it wasn't for him but that doesn't mean I can respect him. He has to mature first.
North American men are often like a bunch of old women. Look at the vlogging scene in Thailand, most people just get on with their own channels. Why? The Westerners who go there are usually European whereas the Philippines is mostly Americans.
@@TitB1199 @TitB1199 Speaking as an American who was raised by his father, I am in a position to know why your statement is at least partly accurate. The women here have disrespected their husbands to the point that the men leave them with the children. This is terrible for the children because the boys grow up to become women and the girls grow up to be modern feminists. The only good solution is to let the men raise the children when they part with the wife but the court isn't going to let us fix our society. They need to foster the upbringing of unstructured future criminals. Can you explain why you think Thailand is more for a manly man? BTW, how would you rate French men as compared to North American men? Are they not Western culture too?
This was a great talk, subject to understand perspective. When it comes to living in the Philippines, we have to assimilate to a certain point. Never give up Your better values.
Nice to see Scotty from a different point of view. It will be interesting to see who (if any) out of all the Filipinas available who he settles down with. I don't think he is quite ready yet as he is having too much fun. I was expecting pauses during the video to show off the baberoonies but then I remembered this was not a video by Scottyboy. (I did notice a few though) Keep doing more videos with him as it is helping you grow your channel immensely. This is your top video now as of Sep 2024.
Thanks I had a great time sitting down with him and filming it. Hopefully, you like my other videos as I have quite an extensive catalog of many varieties regarding expat lifestyles.
You have to understand that in the Philippines one of the worse insults there is is to call someone “Kuripot”, which means cheapskate. Being a cheapskate is an unforgivable sin, and nobody want to be with someone who is believed to be a cheapskate because it’s shameful, and will ruin their reputation. Do you get it? It’s the culture and you can’t judge someone from another culture in their own country by your culture.
If a woman asks you why you're so cheap it's a valid question. Why are you so cheap? You'll be a lonely man with lots of money. That sounds like a dreadful existence.
@@KC-in9pxdepends, if guy spends on his car a lot he is NOT cheap. He is wise guy as car will not take his house away. Spending a lot on 1 girl shows she is just gold digger
I am a resident of Malaybalay and I could tell you it's not cheaper. Went to Moalboal 2 weeks ago, great coffee latte @130 with presentation. Here? 170 on a to go disposable cup. Espresso/Americano 65/75 there while it's 150/160 here. And the quality isn't compromised and the ambiance is even better. Tablea (chocolate drink) is over a hundred for a pack when it's just 50+ down MisOr. Condo that's preselling is over 5M here whilst you can get 2M+ in Dumaguete. No thieves? So funny. Offices and stores are being robbed at night . Happened 1st quarter this year. Good luck.
@@expatlifestyle2000 I actually thought everything has gone overly expensive all over Ph, but no. Let's compare the food "pastil" in Kabacan vs here, it's 10 pesos there and 25 here. 🤷 I ate at some "karenderia" in Moalboal in the middle of the busy touristy area, I asked for half rice to be surprised that their serving of half rice is more than our serving of 1 rice here.
And again, I just have to reiterate. It's no longer safe here like it used to be. Do not leave your belongings unattended. People would enter stores/offices at night even with CCTV and even if it's near enforcement.
Wow. You are the only person I have heard talk like this. I wonder if people only tell me positive things because they want me to have a good impression...
Totally agree with the comment about expenses. I've been living in Thailand for the better part of the past 2 yrs and if you're not careful it can actually be quite expensive, albeit still less then when I was in the US
Just been over there last few weeks and so true !!!!! Allover Manila , CDO , Davao, Dumaguete , Oslob not one rude person nothing stolen whatsoever !!!!!! Safer than many if not most western cities these days !!! Compliment to the Philippines and btw same in Thailand just weeks beforehand !!!

Canadians have found their hearts in CDO. The likes of Scotty, Kyle, Bret and other western culture looking for retirement places. Something in the place everything seems balance upon their taste. Malaybalay is a good one too. In Luzon probably Tagaytay and Baguio. Hope you find your sweet spot in Philippines Scott.👏🇵🇭
The interview was interesting, but what really caught my attention is all those light things in the background that were falling out of the sky constantly. I've seen them in other sites as well. What are those things?
Malaybalay looks really nice, and of course has some cooler weather and has some inexpensive options for rents, foods, etc. But as for cool weather there are many mid-size and smaller municipalities around Mindanao that have cool weather similiar to Baguio.
Well of course almost all the municipalities bordering Malaybalay. But also there's Claveria, there's Libonia which is close to CDO. But also there's Maragusan northeast of Davao, it looks beautiful online. How much time have you spent next door in Valencia? Is it pretty nice?
Thanks. I'll look those up. Everyone I talked to about valencia mentioned how it's to much concrete and they preferred malaybalay. With the festival going on I haven't explored outside a small part of the city yet. I'm sure ill get around to it though.
@@expatlifestyle2000 I'm sure you know this, but before checking out rural parts of Mindanao, you might ask at a PNP Station about the security situation on your route. I know that Marawi City had serious problems as late as 2017, and the rural parts near that city might not be advisable to visit. Good travels.
The rule for RUclips Vloggers is the vloggers with lots of viewers constantly get attacked by unsuccessful vloggers with not very many viewers. The mostly unknown vloggers do it to gain attention and gain viewers. They cannot do it in any other way. Sort of a form of jealousy that someone else has done what they cannot do successfully.
I met a Province Girl in Dalguete Cebu on a FB group (not a dating group ! 😂) and she video chatted with me often. When we started chatting she called me "sir". I said uou don't need to call me sir. She said it is just what we say to a man. I said it feels wierd. Shd said what do you want me to call you ? I aaid my name is John. She said "Okay Sir John " . I loved it. She took me on Jeepneys and motorcycle rides in video chats. Walking tours and even met her family. They freaked out at my long blond hair and blue eyes and long beard. It was a riot. Happy to hear you made such a close connection from such a long distance. I'm still respectful where and when I film but the young people here jump into my shots all the time. They are very used to social media and use Facebook constantly. Make your plans and come check it out. It's great here!
I arrived early nineties in Bugo, CDO and travelled Mindanao intense. Bukidnon was very nice. Had my tent with me and spend lots of time ofthebeaten track, as it was not common at all. Setting a tent up near houses or just in the middle of nowhere. Nowadays Malaybalay, Valencia etc developt a lot. Ended up in Negros and lived there many years. Still always loved Mindanao...and could go around without meeting anerikano's for many weeks. That time was a little more tensed, but overall safe. Was in CDO and withnessed Sendong close at hand ..and saw many body bags that time. One of my more sad stories of the PH.
@@expatlifestyle2000 that was long before the cellphone era and the money lasted much longer. Beside more paved roads, fastfood etc. nowadays the rural areas has enough to offer. But not for everyone for sure...for me wildcamping is still number one to go around everywhere.
I'm an oddity by only owning 3 bags of possessions. My question is what if you would prefer to live somewhere else in the philippines or perhaps even another country. Do you want to pay to move all your stuff every time?

Lol I got stuck in that traffic jam in Malaybalay for that fiesta on my drive back to Davao. Thing is though you need to be there for the rain to really access. Unfortunately the rainfall is too excessive for my tastes. I am not from the UK.
@@expatlifestyle2000 this year might be abnormal because of el nino/la nina? I have been driving through that area since the 1990s. Typically Malaybalay receives 112 inches of rain annually at only 800m elevation versus 66 inches in Medellin Colombia at 1600m and 25 inches in Oaxaca at 1500m. One time I was on my motorcycle and was suffering hypothermia from being wet. I slept over at Pine Hills Hotel in Malaybalay and sat in a hot bath tub for an hour to warm up. I am back in Mexico again, which I think I prefer over the Philippines. I will be back in PI in June. I may know more about the Philippines than the vlogger you interviewed. I was there since year 1990. Lived in Philippines for ~27 or my 58 years. Been all over on a Suzuki Raider and Isuzu Croswind. I sold everything in 2019 and returned to North America.
Sounds like you have had quite the international life. I only lived in Mexico for a few months but the similarities are undeniable. I'm curious, why do you prefer Mexico?
@@expatlifestyle2000 to expound a bit, I already have residency in Mexico soon to convey to permanent residency card and soon after that citizenship. Can own land here in my own name. In Mexico I can find areas of no congestion, without need to go far up into muddy mountains in Philippines. Much more pleasant for relaxing drives where I do not see a house for 50 miles, e.g. Baja Sur. I actually prefer the (traditional, not restaurant/fast) food in Philippines though. Mainly Mexico because I do not trust what the Asians will do when the pandemic comes back again, which it will soon. Philippines seems wonderful but it wears you down after the years and decades, although it is much improved now, e.g. double-laned (widened) all the major roads since I was gone, but still Filipinos use the new right lane as a parking lot. Frustrations abound in the Philippines, although it is a delightful country in many ways. I am contemplating to have a retirement/vacation home there, but I dare not commit to living over there again until after the looming return of the aforementioned. Why do you think they mandated the national id. Because they will mandate something else soon. And I refuse to take those. My health is non-negotiable.

The reason why the girl brought her full 12 person family is that they see you as opportunity to get out of poverty or a ticket to America. Malaybalay is not near a beach so it may be a bit safer from becoming a Dumaguete, Angeles, or Subic anytime soon. Scotty nailed it on the change after Duterte. Duterte was the leader that made it ok to be aggressive towards crime and not take it down lying and just let them have their way. Thanks for the share.
Been in PH for a week now, was in Manila for three days and a boy, maybe 14 tried to pickpocket me unsuccessfully, and there was a never ending line of scammers and beggars, but since leaving Luzon I have only had incredibly lovely interactions. Really loving the Visayas.
I am a fan of Scotty, one thing he said which is very true is the misconception of people thinking there are girls everywhere. I was there last year and I was sitting with a bunch of expats mostly Americans and they were all saying where are all the girls all these Vloggers were talking about? Rekay was saying and still says that you will have a date for every day of the week, lol. We couldn't find a date if our life depended on it in Dumaguete, even online dating sites were dead. Cebu was a little different, you will find girls to go out with you on a date but they are mostly looking for money, some tell you upfront and others will tell you afterwards like, my mother needs medicine. I think things have changed drastically just over last 3 years and finding, pay to play is easy but finding a girlfriend material or wife to be is very difficult. So my suggestion to anyone looking for that is to plan to live in PH for at least a year, maybe more and you have to be super active as well and you will have a good chance of finding the right girl.
Great interview guys ! Both of you are welcome to visit with myself...a Brit, and pamily, if ever you're up Pangasinan way (not far from Manaoag). Take care guys.

Scotty is right about so many things, it’s not cheap in the Philippines, and it’s not easy to find the girl of your dreams. He is right about the money thing, that drives me crazy, Filipina don’t hesitate to ask for money, I mean constantly. Don’t accept this unless she is living with you and she is giving something in return. I always said to girls I don’t send money unless you are with me, then I will support you. I am here a long time, and the way he has approached it, is the right way, he did it in a scooter, I did it with a car, more comfortable.
I did it using public transportation but after my lesson learned ill be getting wheels. Its just so hard to go odd places i want to go. Enjoy PI my man. Its a great time here. Especially in Malaybalay.
A couple of cautionary notes. If you happen to be in the Philippines during election time, there is a possibility you might become a kidnapping victim if you let your guard down. It usually involves a gang operation where they are stalking a potential victim to assess his vulnerability for a kidnapping. Once that is done, then a time and place is set for the kidnapping. The kidnappers will post the amount of money required in order to secure the release of a victim at the embassy representing the victim's country. The money is used to support a political candidate's campaign. Secondly, if a foreigner is susceptible to problems concerning sustained high heat conditions, he should choose a location in a more mountainous, cooler area to live in first and then choose a partner from that area.
Wow sounds serious. Thanks for the safety tip. Luckily I am still fat and it would take 4 filipino men to lift me if I just go limp. Also fortunately I am poor, so they will not be able to collect much for me.

If a woman said to me 'why are you so cheap?' that just answered in my getting to know that woman. I'll just walk away.
Pay attention to what people say and do if you want to understand people. No doubt.
Definitely a conversation ended - agree.
Good luck.
Interesting info from a local. I guess we can only see so much from an outsiders perspective.
It is interesting to know and a super common misconception.
@@expatlifestyle2000 I actually thought everything has gone overly expensive all over Ph, but no. Let's compare the food "pastil" in Kabacan vs here, it's 10 pesos there and 25 here. 🤷
I ate at some "karenderia" in Moalboal in the middle of the busy touristy area, I asked for half rice to be surprised that their serving of half rice is more than our serving of 1 rice here.

So Malaybalay earned repeat visits. I hope to visit it myself. I'll be in Cebu in June.
It's pretty awesome here. I keep extending my stay after each positive experience.
Hello Scotty what's a decent hotel to stay in cebu ??
Canadians have found their hearts in CDO. The likes of Scotty, Kyle, Bret and other western culture looking for retirement places. Something in the place everything seems balance upon their taste. Malaybalay is a good one too. In Luzon probably Tagaytay and Baguio. Hope you find your sweet spot in Philippines Scott.👏🇵🇭

The interview was interesting, but what really caught my attention is all those light things in the background that were falling out of the sky constantly. I've seen them in other sites as well. What are those things?
Little toys sold by vendors.
Generally they admire foreigners, anywhere in the country.
The local people have been very good to me and I find them to be admirable too. Respectful, strong families, and so much more...
Malaybalay looks really nice, and of course has some cooler weather and has some inexpensive options for rents, foods, etc.
But as for cool weather there are many mid-size and smaller municipalities around Mindanao that have cool weather similiar to Baguio.
Do you have any city names I should explore?
Well of course almost all the municipalities bordering Malaybalay. But also there's Claveria, there's Libonia which is close to CDO. But also there's Maragusan northeast of Davao, it looks beautiful online.
How much time have you spent next door in Valencia? Is it pretty nice?

We have needed rain here in malaybalay. Many peoples water sisterns are empty. 😞

Another thing about the Philippines is that age does not matter.
I know it matters regarding respect and status. Also I have also seen a decrepit dude in his 70s creep out chick's in their late teens/early 20s by making romantic advances. Would it be more appropriate to say it matter less?
Age does matter. Underage is underage and will get you banned from the Philippines.
41 years in the culture....12 years living in Pinas. AGE MATTERS otherwise you'd see 65 year old pinoys with 30 or younger pinays lol . The ONLY reason you see 55 year plus puti's with 25 year old pinays is because of money. Security is a BIG emotional need for all women around the world ....the difference is that in the West the "bar" is WAY higher. Lets get real guys...AGE matters! and also for gods sake limit you gap to no more than 20-25 years. If you are 65 what the hell are you doing with a woman 40 years your junior! sick !
@@realgains1538age does matter and so does money. If the girl is tired of being hungry she might go with an older foreigner who has a stable income.
I won't even go to manilla and am usually annoyed having to fly into it. Not a fan.
Are there homes available for rent ? I am looking for a 2 or 3 bedroom home.
Went back and listened again. Waiting list for housing 😢
There are. I'll try to do some looking around and video-ing them in may for you bud.
I could talk so much about this and your astute observation. Maybe I'll do a video or livestream about it in the future.

The background noise became overwhelming and unbearable. so I activated the reductioner on the microphone.
Scotty's channel is pretty dope. His style of vlogging and his interviews are some of my favorite things to watch. It also seems like he likes putting people on which can't be said about a lot of RUclipsrs. That's how I started watching Ana and I how I just subscribed to this channel.
Agreed about scotty and I'm happy to have you in the fold on my channel. Welcome.
@25:37: "My audience." All 1800 of them? That's brilliant!!😂
Funnier still it was closer to 1300 when I filmed this. 🤣
Great video, always like Scotty boy! Also, thanks for the great background traffic!
My pleasure. It was noisy but I knew the festival was a great place to chat.
I can't understand the city he is mentioning. Caya de O..something like that, Help anyone, please
Cagayan De Oro. But it's often just called CDO.
@@utubenewb1265 Thanks
Cagayan de Oro, second city on mindanao (population/economically size-wise) after Davao city. In the northern coastal part on the northeastern quarter of Mindanao island. More a gateway towards other bisaya islands than ofcourse Davao area is in the far down southeast part of Mindanao. Davao area faces southwards the northly Moluccan parts of far eastern indonesia.
Scotty you are the best, you can be serious but you also make fun ,keep the videos coming mate enjoy watching.
Hopefully you enjoy my channel. I would recommend you check out some of my iloilo videos if you like walk and talks.
i found out in Serbia that the "where are we going" question was more about dressing appropriate for the situation than about money/spending. Also some girls do not want to go to a bar. Food for thought
Interesting observation
Nice. Enjoy your travels!
I like Regular guy. he is just awesome :-)
Me too. Hopefully you will like my channel too. I have quite the back catalog.
Those were really well thought out questions ... thank you for that interview. I've been a subscriber to Scotty's channel from the start and find it highly entertaining and informative. He's a little different but in a good way. When I'm there in 2 years, I'll be sure to include a stay in CDO and Malaybalay as both cities sound wonderful. Thanks for a great video.
Your welcome. Hopefully you enjoy my channel as much as you have enjoyed his.
Two years is a longtime in the Philippines and things will surely change in that time. Remember these Vlogs are just a guide and someone's current perspective.
This Boya Mic sounds really good, and I am sure its much more afforable than the Rode and DJI one.. Could you tell me the model name?
Oh and of course, nice interview, he was quite relaxed so you did a good job ;)
Thanks. You are correct as it was around $100 for the two mics, reciever, and dead cats. It's the square one when you look for it online.
You caught up with him again , cool conversation
Thanks. Scotty is a cool guy to chat with.
Cdo and surrounding area great. Single women everywhere, mtns, and good golf.
Good video
Thank you. I hope you enjoy my other ones too.
Very good interview.
Scotty is a great interviewee. Thanks for watching.
we support Scott
Great interview! Dreams are what make life tolerable. Now that Scott is living his dream, I am curious on Scott's opinion on whether it has lived up to his expectations?
Agree with your perspective on dating. To start simple, and this applies wherever or whatever station you are in life.
good for scotty hes a good man after all
Good man, good friend, Regular guy.
Great video
Miss you Jennalynne. I was talking with Kevin about hopefully doing some vacation stuff soon.
Wow, Giving people the impression that they can just leave their valuables out and nobody will steal them in the Philippines. This is absolutely crazy.
It's definitely not recommended, but I have heard personal anticdotes from multiple people who have done this safely.
Go watch fly me to the Philippines. They show Crissy and Rob have someone try to grab their bag right from their hands. That was in CDO!
@@stevesilver7437 You get lots of poor advice from vloggers, I have been dealing with the Philippines for 20 years plus and never heard anyone say this, in fact most will give you safety tips. There is actually quite a few vloggers on youtube who have almost had their cameras grabbed while filming. It is fair to say most Filipinos are honest but especially as tourists you often are often targeted by criminals.
@@expatlifestyle2000 ANECDOTES (not "anticdotes").
The honesty factor he mentions is the absolute opposite of what I experienced in six years there. Believe me, there has been no change.
Please spell the name of the city!
Which city?
Malaybalay?
That was a very generous introduction.
I can't get over how much importance is placed on trying to find something familiar in a place where you go to get away from the crap you couldn't stand. Try letting theses places stay the way they are. You try to ruin the culture.
They have immigration policy here to protect their people. I shall ask, Does the country you are from have a serious immigration policy?
@@expatlifestyle2000 The country I'm from is a temporary immigration travesty. Biden is the president at the moment.
Wow...we can see the vibe of this city...
It's usually more chill but this over month long festival adds more folks. Still real friendly vibe though.
You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life. - Steve Jobs
Good quote. 👍
I got to like scotty a lot, he first came to my attention when he first arrived in the Philippines, I don’t follow expat RUclips Vloggers.
Only because I have lived full time in the philippines since 2010.
I already know what these guys try to educate us on, and I know more, but scotty by him traveling all over, he has learned what the true Philippines is about.
Most expats don’t travel, they stay in one place.
I have done what he has done, and more places beyond where he has gone, I have taken paid security with me in some places here , there is no way in hell you would go there alone.
But your question on where an exist should live, food from back home, and excellent affordable accommodation, no brown outs, traffic is good, is Angeles City, it also has good hospitals and an international airport, only 2 hours from Manila. This is the best place to live along with Clark, which is like a suburb in the west.
You seem like you are a good source of info. I couldn't do AC personally. Ive never been but i know enough. To much of a concrete jungle for me, im sure.
