This is probably the best demo of the Line6 Helix. This isn't a show of everything it can do, but instead a good taste of how quickly gigging/recording musicians can get a sick tone from it.
3:26 - 3:27 has to be the biggest, most filthy sounding C# power chord I have ever heard. Just listen to the growl! And yet it's so clear and chimey! I could listen to that single chord over and over and never get sick of it.
I've put a lot of mileage on my Stomp, and definitely, if you're using it as a standalone unit, IR's are the way to go. Even better, if you have a power amp and guitar cabinet to use like Ola did here. It is hands down the best deal for an amp/multieffects/IR loader unit. It's my whole rig now. Only thing I added recently was a Digitech Freqout so it feels and reactive like a real amp also (with tasteful feedback, etc.), but I use only use that as a one trick pony when I play leads. I've also played out once doing a hybrid system with the stomp, my 5150, and 4 cable method. That was an awesome time.
The price of HX Stomp just does not cut for it. It says it has one of the two CPUs of Helix Floor/LT processors but it is only limited to 6 blocks which is a big shame. Helix LT can support up to 32 blocks if there is enough DSP power. Therefore, HX Stomp should support up to 16 blocks. It seems HX Stomp will support up to 8 blocks with a new update. Really, I am so excited (irony). Line 6 is ridiculous now. Also Boss GT1000 Core is much better than this rusty tin.
Ever since I bought my Stomp last year, I've thought it would probably sound great to run it into a tube amp's effects return, without any cabinet modeling...Since you guys have demonstrated exactly that approach, this is one of my favorite Stomp demo videos.
I use this as my main amp sound at home plugged into the effects return of my Peavey 6505mh. Once you get the hang of the interface the thing is amazing! And that Revv model is one of the best amp models I have ever heard for metal
Ok , same situation , but with a peavey supreme xl solid state head instead , should I expect at least decent results ? Don't currently have $1600 to drop on the "big boy" Helix board so I started looking into this cheaper stomp variant, however the written reviews I came across didn't really give me an idea of what this thing is actually capable of. Needless to say, this video has sold me on it.

Came back to watch this much later. I've had my HX Stomp for about a year now, and I'm not looking back. I have it as my whole rig now. If it tells you anything, I'm typically a straight into amp, riding guitar volume knob kinda guy, and once I figured it out (making the noise gate the lightest setting), my stomp is all I play now. After getting good IR's, it sounds and reacts just like a real amp. Only other thing I did is add the Digitech Freqout for leads to get that tasteful feedback/sustainer thing, but that's few and far between. It kicks rear. I also played out once with my 5150 stack and this, doing the four cable method (I accidentally left my pedalboard at home!), and it was one of the most satisfying times playing out ever. Hands down, the best value in digital guitar gear.
Just so everyone knows, if you're running this through a tube amp via FX Loop, use the preamp versions of these amps. You won't go through power amp coloring twice.
