    the fact that you got that Lin was playing a nervous young Hamilton from him singing a single line says a lot about 1. you as a vocal coach and 2. lin as a performer. either way i'm in AWE

    One thing I've always said about Lin is that he is an amazing vocalist sure, but hes a composer and writer foremost. He almost shoots himself in the foot in Hamilton by surrounding himself with through-the-roof quality vocalists and can sound almost worse by comparison. Don't get me wrong, he's still better than 90% of people out there in terms of singing, but it's for sure not his strongest suit.

    • @FrodeHegland
      @FrodeHegland 3 года назад +18

      I kind of think his roughness makes it more punk, more 'real', more 'gritty' alongside his (definitively) more polished cast :-)

    • @BewareTheJabberwock
      @BewareTheJabberwock 3 года назад +16

      Paraphrasing since I can’t remember his exact quote;
      Lin freely admits that, within this cast, he is the weakest singer, so he surrounded himself with an amazing cast and amazing singers.
      Lin isn’t a great dancer (per someone he worked with him on “In the Heights!” Lin SHINES when he raps and his stage presence is amazing! (“So, don’t act surprised, you guys, cause the wrote this!)
      If you go back and watch again you will notice that of all of the very active main characters, Lin barely dances and raps more than he sings. 🤨

      No way man! Hamilton's less polished voice is perfect for his character, and it is such a good contrast to the rest of the cast. Sure, he isn't the best singer, but it isn't needed for his flawed and "unique" character. He is the "outsider", just there to do his own thing.
      And I personally really like the sound of his voice, and I think many do. The rest of the cast is amazing, and I really like their sound and how characteristic it is to each character. And all of them are more polished than Linn's, but Linn definitely holds his own on that stage. His voice is not a hindrance (I think) and it tells such a good story. When I listen to the other Hamilton, who has a technically better voice (and it sounds so good), I still prefer Linn'`s voice as Hamilton just because the contrast of his voice compared to everyone else's sounds very good in my ears.
      Sorry, I know this was so long ago.
      I just couldn't help myself lol

    You're so right about his choices in his performance. At this point he's young, a bit out of place, but energetic and determined, so it's cool that you can tell that from his vocal choices. In fact, I'm pretty sure all of them alter their voices at least a little bit to portray their characters to perfection, and it's a testament to all of their talents.

    I am just discovering this but I want to encourage you to get Disney Plus once you get to the finale song for Act 1, as there is SO MUCH to be seen by the way the performers sing and the choreography and action on stage, and once you get to that point, the videos on YT dry up. It's completely worth the money (I say that as a fan of Marvel, as well as this), and there's a great episode of a series about songwriting about my favorite song from this, Wait For It. The second half has so much powerful stuff in it (including a song that's a treatise on grief) and I'd have for you to have to stop, your analysis is some of the best I've seen.

      @@SSTVocalCoach I couldn't make it through the reaction...I had to stop right before Mulligan. Interrupting art is extremely hard for those who put in the work. As a "vocal couch" I would think that you know that but apparently I was wrong. Any reaction by you is easily something you can do when it's over. Just make some notes and the minutes and seconds of something you want to point out. You can easily go back to those moments...it's pretty simple. I see quite a few people who react who pay attention closely and when it's over then they give their reaction...they are respectful enough to who put in a ton of time...more than you did hitting pause. They want feedback so they can be better "reactors". You can be willing to listen to those that watch especially when you want more subscribers, right?
      No fear, I won't be watching another one. Have a nice day but be careful when you bounce that you don't knock out some poor kid.

    • @SSTVocalCoach
      @SSTVocalCoach  3 года назад +1

      @@larynanntapp6333 Wow this is like rude comment bingo.
      I'll be taking no lectures about being respectful from a person who post insulting comments to people they have never met. If you want to see the performance in it's entirety before hearing my comments, then go to the original video, which I tag for that very purpose.
      I analyse vocals for a living (even though you put my profession in quotation marks, so i'm guessing you don't think i'm worthy of my post?) and when I hear something interesting, i'll stop and draw attention to it, so my viewers can learn in real time, and not have to keep rewinding to go to the part i'm referencing.
      I'm also totally open to constructive critisism, but I won't sit and allow someone to post abuse at me, even if they dangle the prospect of a subscription my way. I'd honestly rather not have people come on board if they're going to speak to me like that. In fact, going by most of the comments on this video, you're pretty much the only person who's had anything negative to say, so i'll hedge my bets and keep making videos the way I'm doing them.
      I'm also not sure what the last comment means regarding bouncing and injuring a child, but at this point, i'm past caring.
      Have a blessed life. You can watch the whole show uninterrupted on Disney+ by the way :)

      @MrDrus 3 года назад +1

      I’ve just checked: Hamilton’s both on Spotify and Disney+ and both offer trial periods. Furthermore, VPN services also offer trial periods in case of regional restrictions.
      I bet there are channels during which the reactions tend to be either:
      a) Listening to the whole song and then being like “oh, ok, splendid, BAIIIII”.
      b) Doing like you said and then relying on people to remember what the person doing the critique refers to.
      c) Slabbing a 30-min reaction most of the people won’t be interested in.
      Apparently not here.
      RUclips has its rules and they’re not about catering to one person’s needs to find a recording cause they clearly can’t be arsed using official streaming services.

      @@SSTVocalCoach Sir, vocal coach is put in
      parenthesis because without any form of verification, anyone can call themselves that and they may not actually be one. It can, and has been, used to basically fake people out with the belief that people will think they are more of an expert than they actually are...it's actually not specific to you and it applies to quite a few things. I am a retired EMT, volunteer firefighter and trauma counselor who is terminally ill and trying to find enjoyable things to see while I can. I wouldn't bat an eye if you put parenthesis around anything in that sentence. You mentioned a "spring in your step". So, a spring is usually bouncy which then creates a mental image of someone "bouncing" when they walk...it was a joke which apparently needed an explanation. Have a nice day.
